Don’t let LCA’s three losses fool you. These are the epitome of what we mean when we use the term “good losses”. Similar to what a lot of teams do, LCA schedules a brutal non district slate to prepare them for the playoffs. Iron sharpens iron. Significant to note that LCA’s 3 losses are to teams from higher classes with a combined record of 38-1. All of whom are still playing and have an excellent chance of bringing home a championship. 3A CAL (13-0) really took LCA to the woodshed 47-7 but that team is one of the best teams in KY from all classes and nobody in 2A would have fared better. 4A Boyle Co (12-1) beat LCA by a touchdown. Boyle’s lone loss came in a head scratcher to Lexington Catholic. The Rebels started the season a little slow by their standards but they are playing lights out now and they just destroyed Cov Cath. LCA lost by a single point to 4A Franklin Co (13-0) in a very impressive performance. As Franklin is one of the top tier teams in their class

Do you think Week 3, Regional Championship Week, is the best week of the high school football season? For me it is. I love the first couple weeks because all the bowl games host a lot of premium matchups. And of course championship weekend is always good for all the marbles. But week three always has a ton of really good games and it is win or go home so it means more than the same type of games in the bowl weeks. There’s at least a dozen games I would like to attend this weekend.

Another game I’d really like to see. Too many good ones this week to choose from

The way the RPI is shaking out, these two could only meet in the finals if Somerset knocks off Owensboro Catholic this week. I hope you are right

Breathitt County (10-2), D6 #1, 9th in RPI (.66078) travels to Pond Creek to take on Belfry (11-1) D8#1, 4th in RPI (.71845) Breathitt is riding into town on the wave of a 8 game winning streak. They have 2 losses to Middlesboro (50-36) and to Hazard (49-21). The Bobcats have looked strong with notable wins over Letcher Central, West Carter and Russell. Belfry is also on a long winning streak that spans 9 games, and all of them of the running-clock variety. Their only loss came to Johnson Central (46-21). The Pirates' signature wins were over Pikeville, Southwestern, Lou. Central and Letcher Central. The only common opponent was Letcher Central, where Breathitt beat them 47-28 and Belfry beat them 42-14. These two programs have a history dating back to 1987. Belfry won 6 of the first 7 meetings then Breathitt reeled off 5 straight wins in the 90s. Other than that the games have been back and forth, although the Pirates have won the last 4 meetings. They have played a total of 20 games with Belfry winning 12 and Breathitt 8. 9 of the 20 games have come in the playoffs where Belfry has a 5-4 advantage. It is always a lot of fun when these to meet up, and no doubt this one will be too.
