  1. Not sure, but I don't believe they name an MVP in these tournaments.
  2. You would think that, but I have personally seen "reasonable" people do just this very thing. Wouldn't take much to put me to shame...nobody wants to see me in a singlet...:creepy:
  3. By the way, can one of the mods answer if this is a record for the most posts on one thread in this forum??? If so, I want due credit for stirring up the hornets nest...
  4. I've seen multiple cases of kids literally starving themselves to make weight. That is generally defined as an eating disorder, not dieting. As for being a medical professional, no, I'm no more special than anyone else, but I have been able to observe unhealthy, to the point of being dangerous, habits used by wrestlers in an effort to gain an advantage by wrestling down a class. The kids, and sometimes coaches (although rarely), can't figure out that if I skip meals to make weight, I also lose strength and endurance which will greatly inhibit my ability to perform. One other thing, say what you want about my profile, at least mine is filled out and I'm not posting my obviously inflammatory opinion while hiding behind a screen name. Any one with a brain pretty much knows who I am...:thumb: Now if I change my profile to read, enjoy watching some other sports, will that make you happy???
  5. When you open your mouth as wide as I tend to do at times, it makes it much easier to insert your foot. I sometimes think my taste buds have developed callouses from my frequent bouts with foot-in-mouth syndrome. Oh well, guess I may need to try one of your recipes sometime...:thumb:
  6. For the record...I would prefer some bar-b-q sauce or at least a little Heinz 57 with my crow...:irked: Russell played very poorly, not sure what the problem was but they did not look to be ready to play from the get go. Raceland played well defensively and made some unbelievable shots down the stretch to come up with the big upset.
  7. Marissa Adkins went 4-4 from 3pt range in the first half Tuesday.
  8. Wow...so I'm selfish and squashing children's dreams. I didn't know I was such a bad person...
  9. There was no debate about Boyd's starting a program, the debate was more on the likelihood of other are schools (specifically Russell and GC) adding it as well as whether it should be picked up by more schools. As a medical professional, my biggest concern would be the number of kids I have seen with eating disorders due to the sometimes obsessvive nature of those trying to cut weight.
  10. No, I have actually attended many big meets and have a pretty good understanding of the sport. It just didn't appeal to, much as soccer doesn't even though I have watched many soccer games and worked with some of the best coaches in the country at the collegiate level.
  11. No disagreement from me on that...again, I could essentially care less about basketball, I mentioned that sport as a possible stumbling block to wrestling at some schools (since it seems to be king for most in this state) what kind of team Russell would have has no bearing on this debate.
  12. Actually, I just did the math, there are 78 wrestling schools in Kentucky out of 280 total KHSAA member schools which works out to 27.8%. That number does include all girls schools, but since wrestling is a coed sport, there is nothing stopping them from starting a team as well.
  13. Actually, I'd love for all student athletes to have an opportunity, unfortunately, male or female. However, I don't see an interest for a wrestling program at Russell, ergo, no need for one. If Boyd has the numbers interested to start one and the funds to do so, more power to them. When you say you want schools to offer as many sports as they can, keep in minf the funding for equipment and coaches is a definite hinderance in many cases, especially in smaller schools. Not too mention that if you spread your athletes too thin, there will not be much opportunity for success in many sports. Right now, I'd say RHS is pretty well maxed out.
  14. Last time I checked, there were fewer than 80 KHSAA members schools participating in wrestling, that's about 33%. Must be more than just this area that's not into the sport. I agree that football and wrestling are very comparable for linemen...as for skill positions, I'm not so sure there's as much correlation there.
  15. Yes, I have been to several big meets...I'd rather watch paint dry.
  16. Uhhh...did you see my avatar??? Not a big fan of roundball here... There are still college programs, but they are a dying breed so to speak. I'm not also not a fan of adding programs just for the sake of adding them or just to keep up with the Jones' if there is not a large percentage of students clamoring for the sport to be picked up. When schools do that, they are generally not successful and it usually takes away from the succes other sports. Just my personal observations. As you may be able to tell from the number of folks on this board, football and basketball are king in Kentucky and not too many folks give a hoot about wrestling. Count me in that group...:thumb:
  17. Russell by a big margin...I'll agree with Lil' Devil Dad and say Devils by 20...
  18. Russell has one week where they have kids come in before school for simple practices in the gym. Basically designed more for kids interested in coming out or young players so they can learn the basics and get a feel for things. No equipment is given out so there is no hitting or scrimmage game. IMO, hitting in the spring is ridiculous and a great way to get a kid hurt and lost for the upcoming season. Tear an ACL in March and you won't be back until maybe midseason, usually not ready to go until the next year. With the Red Devils' level of success over the years, most folks would be surprised how little hitting and live practice Russell does. A two hour practice is a long one and we are ALWAYS off the practice field before 6 PM. After a couple of hours, coaches are getting mentally worn out, how is a kid supposed to concentrate and learn anything if the adults are ready to end it? Besides, not many high school games last longer than two hours of actual game time anyway.
  19. Boyles injury was NOT to his knee. He hit his head on the court and was woozy from that. He did not show signs of improvement on the sideline and his parents took him to SOMC as a precaution. Vanhoose will see an orthopedist tomorrow and should have a better idea on his status then. Any discussion before then would be preliminary.
  20. I just don't see the expenditure of adding another sport that has limited potential for continuation at the next level as prudent use of funds. I know Russell's athletic department budget is stretched thin as it is without incurring anymore expenses. Providing practice facilities, coaches, mats and other equipment, scheduling, etc. It really adds up, plus basketball coaches who don't want to share their athletes already will surely not want to lose any kids to a same season sport. Whether it's technically coed or not, I certainly hope Russell never chooses to add this sport.
  21. There are no talks in Russell's athletic department with regards to starting a wrestling program. I'm surprised any schools are starting one as the Title IX implications are a nightmare.
  22. I would think Belfry & Russell have an excellent chance of another semi-final match up...at Belfry...AGAIN (thanks for the great work Mr. Tackett ) Other than those two on this side of the state, I have no idea...
  23. I think winning one game to get to regional isn't too terribly difficult, much less an indication of program strength...especially if you consider the talent that has come through the program during that time.
  24. His "here" and my "here" are very different, but I'd say that football statewide is at the very least closer than any basketball coach wants to admit. I know that some coaches have reportedly discouraged "their" players from going out for football and actively lobbied them to quit football or not lift with them during the offseason. I have also heard of certain coaches treating football players unfairly in their classes and running them off the basketball team. This usually doesn't seem to hurt the football teams and generally winds up costing the basketball teams some athletic kids.
  25. That only eliminates one week, where does the second week come from??? Also, if you end a week sooner with next year's format, you wind up in the same predicament you had this year with U of L having a home game every other year.
