Ram Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Bylaw 25. Limitation of Seasons 8) Each football school may conduct ten (10) practice periods of not more than two (2) hours in length and not more than one practice per day over ten (10) days during the three calendar school weeks following the school’s elimination from post-season play in basketball. All equipment authorized by the football playing rules may be used during this period. There can be no inter-school competition during this period, and all participants must be eligible according to all KHSAA eligibility rules. Spring Practice is just around the corner. Raceland has spring practice and ends the session with an Orange-White game. I was surprised to find out last year that some schools do not take advantage of this opportunity. Does your school participate in spring practice? Does your school end the session with an inter-squad scrimmage? What does your school do to make this period of practice exciting?
lcdawg4life Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I havent attended the one in LC recently but I plan on it this year. I would love to see a Red/Black scrimmage.

fballman007 Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I think it is more useful to lift during the off season rather than spring practice in H.S. OR just keep the practice nice and simple and work on the small things.
LSURock Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Trinity doesn't participate in spring practice.
Big K 61 Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Trinity doesn't participate in spring practice. Interesting...what is their reasoning?
LSURock Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Interesting...what is their reasoning? They haven't had it for years. The thought is that time is better spent doing other activities. Football players often play baseball, run Track, etc. It doesn't seem to be a problem lately.:thumb:

And if not, 10 days of practice will not allow much muscle lose, might even make the players stronger due to change of workout. Plus, with my experience, due to some players playing baseball spring practice allows more young players to get reps and experience.

I agree with the change of the workout, confuses the muscle to grow. I just think if teams do spring practice they need to keep it simple and wprk on the form of things. That being said, I would think most teams already do this.

PutMeInCoach Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Our spring practices were alot of fun, and we always ended with an intersquad scrimmage.
Football10-10-10 Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 While I think Spring football is good for reps of younger players, I feel that football dominates to the point that some players don't participate in other sports because they are worried about their position in football or feel that they are battling for a position and need to show the coaches that they are ready to do anything to play football. I think that football players who run track or play baseball, are better all-round athletes. Also it is not fair for the other sports to get the left-overs in many cases.

Coaches from all sports should work together to allow players participate in any sport he or she chooses. I think what you are describing happens a lot. Welcome to BGP!
