I don't think Caldwell played anyone both ways last season either, although Cain saw some action on offense. You'll probably see a couple of players see some action both ways in Caldwell's bigger games this year, but for the most part Cain is the only one, and they'll rest him on both sides when they can. Last count for Caldwell roster was 77. That includes 21 seniors and 18 juniors.

They forced 5 turnovers and scored 2 touchdowns on defense last week ... how much more do you want? :lol2::lol2::lol2: Seriously, though, Union will have to hit some big plays in the passing game to make a game of it, IMHO.

That's a lot of points, especially with the new 36-point mercy rule. I think Caldwell may come out a little flat after the big win over Christian County. Playing Saturday night may also take some of the enthusiasm out of the Caldwell crowd, especially since a big chunk of that crowd is either going to the UK-WKU game or staying home to watch that game on TV (good scheduling there Crittenden County bowl people). I figure Crittenden County cost itself a lot of money by playing the Caldwell game on Saturday night opposite UK-WKU. Probably cost themselves at least 500 paying fans (maybe more) at $8 a pop.

I think Union County is going to have a very good year. But I don't think they can play with Caldwell County for 48 minutes. Caldwell 52, Union 28

Wow, so many people there that some had to stand on top of the pressbox! It was a pretty awesome atmosphere for the first game of the year. Hope Caldwell fans get to see that all season.

Stat of the night: Christian County 5 turnovers, Caldwell County 0 turnovers. Caldwell had 2 defensive scores that really set the tone in the first half. Christian finished with more yards (369-362) and first downs (20-17), but couldn't overcome the turnovers. After being down 31-7 at halftime, Christian threatened to make a game of it in the second half, but couldn't stop shooting themselves in the foot. As expected, Christian's speed on defense gave Caldwell's offense some problems. Not a great offensive night for the Tigers but OK. Elijah Sindelar was 18 of 29 for 180 yards with 2 TDs and no picks. He also ran 6 times for 47 yards.

Caldwell's varsity had over 570 yards of offense ... in a scrimmage. In three series of 10-and-10, Caldwell had 17 first downs in 30 plays. Newcomer JaMichael Ellis ran for over 100 yards ... on three carries.

Caldwell's offense certainly passes the look test. They look like a college team. Besides the receivers, the OLine averages 270 pounds and all five of them have started before. And most everyone knows the QB and RB. Don't know how the season will play out, but I've never seen a Caldwell team with more talent.

I hear Caldwell County has added another kid from Minnesota who is going to be a starter somewhere. Haven't seen him yet, but was told he was a LB/RB type. As of Monday, Caldwell had 77 kids out for football. Things appear to be lining up well for the Tigers ... nothing left to do but go out and play those pesky games :lol2:

Sindelar has been playing on a traveling baseball team and going to football camps. However, word continues to be that he will play basketball this year. Things could change I guess, but I'm expecting him to suit up for coach Kukahiko this winter.

I think the Christian County-Fort Campbell game is actually on Sept. 13. Christian made some late changes to its schedule and moved the Fort Campbell game to Sept. 13 and a game against McCracken County that was on Sept. 13 to later in the season.

Just a note: The Aug. 30 game against Union County is not a home game for Caldwell. It is part of the National Guard Warrior Bowl at Crittenden County.

The Green County game will be Caldwell's longest regular-season road trip in some time. Will be interesting to see what effect that has on the Tigers. Teams that give Caldwell problems are typically teams with some speed. It's been my experience that the best answer for a good System offense is lots of speed on defense. I'm anxious to see how Green's QB/RB duo stack up against the one Caldwell faced at Louisville DeSales last year. Roush and Byrd were pretty tough. Should be a fun game. And my first trip to Green County.:thumb: I thought I read somewhere that Green County returned a big part of last year's team. Could be a pair of ranked teams when Caldwell and Green meet.

Webster's non-stop motor will be impossible to replace. He led by example. However, the loss of receiver Tez Sivils can't be overlooked either. Sindelar really relied heavily on him in a lot of ways. Sivils knew the offense inside and out and he's no longer there for Sindelar to lean on. That being said, I think Sindelar will be OK behind a strong offensive line. And Dee Cain should pick up some of the slack on offense lost with Sivils. Also, I think a lot of people tend to overlook RB Jaylen Boyd. Caldwell rode him through the playoffs, and it was Boyd, not Sindelar, who was the District Player of the Year last year. Sindelar gets most of the publicity (and I completely understand why) but Boyd brings a lot of balance to an offense than ran the ball more last year than passed it.

I guess I can relate. I hate it when people pronounce Caldwell as "Kuh-well" or "Quell." It's "CALD-well." One of Princeton's own radio announcers does the Quell thing and it drives me nuts.

If you had a subscription to the Princeton paper, you'd see that Newport Central Catholic was actually referred to as NewCath or NCC, so at least there's always that.

For better or worse, I'm probably one of the maybe two people in Princeton that actually knows the difference between Newport and NewCath. At the Caldwell-DeSales game, I told someone from DeSales that NewCath had beaten Somerset in the other semifinal. They replied, "Not Covington Catholic, they were playing Newport!" I didn't argue and just moved on. I'm afraid as long as the first word in your school name is Newport, you're going to get called Newport a lot. Especially outside of northern Kentucky.

Way to go out of your way to look for something to complain about. Sheeesh.

Murray put a hurt on Caldwell's offense because of Murray's overall team speed on defense. Mayfield did the same. On the other hand, Caldwell's offense has shredded slower defenses this season. If DeSales doesn't have that much speed, and I don't think they have Murray or Mayfield speed, then I like Caldwell's chances to break some big plays and score some points. Caldwell's defense will have its hands full with the Byrd kid. However, I think DeSales will have to throw the ball a little bit to open up its running game. Caldwell's last two opponents, Hancock County and Murray, were lousy in the passing department. That allowed Caldwell to fill the box and have a chance at making some stops. I think we see some big plays and some points scored this week, unless we get some sloppy weather. Caldwell 42-28.

A sick one-handed touchdown catch by Caldwell's Tez Sivils tied the game in the third quarter. Seymore's kick late in the fourth quarter cleared the cross bar by just over a foot. Would not have made it from 46. Outstanding football game.

Hancock turned the ball over 4 times - twice in the red zone in the first half. Caldwell had zero turnovers. Teams combined for 932 yards of offense. Caldwell had 501 with 370 on the ground. Hancock moved the ball, rushing for 367. But couldn't overcome the turnovers.

Caldwell 35-28

Caldwell wins 42-27. Hancock is tough, but the Hornets' offense is too one-dimensional. Caldwell is a little more balanced offensively. And Caldwell may have a little more overall speed. Caldwell will get a few more defensive stops than Hancock and that will be the difference in the game.

If Caldwell plays like it did Friday at Franklin, the Tigers should win this one going away. 56-20

First time Caldwell County has visited Franklin since 1973, so definitely some new surroundings for the Tigers. Caldwell wants to throw it a lot, Franklin-Simpson apparently likes to run it a lot. I'm going out on a limb and say Franklin controls time of possession. I figure the game will be close, so I'm taking Caldwell County (because I'm a big homer )
