I like it. In most years it will mean a home game for Trinity thanksgiving weekend.

Any word on where the young man is attending school?

From what I understand, no ticket sales at the door. They are available t the schools, while they last.

As I said earlier, I don’t know anything about the kid. I suppose we’ll know in a couple of days. If he transfers to Trinity, welcome. You’re going to love it. If he is somewhere else, good luck with the rest of high school. Make the most of it.

I've never heard of the kid and I don't know whether he plans to transfer or not. If he decides that he would like to transfer to Trinity, he should be treated the same as any other student - no better and no worse.

In what way? Did the kid cause trouble? Did he get kicked out? Did he flunk out? If not, I'd say it turned out just fine.

For what it is worth, I don't care how X goes about their search. To my way of thinking, any school should look for the best candidate for the job. If the best candidate is from Missouri, New Hampshire or even an X guy, so be it. As far as Coach Wolford, he represented X with dignity. If the only criticism is that he couldn't beat Trinity, he isn't alone. Way back when he was hired, Billy Reed gave a spot on prediction of how the Wolford era at X would go. It is worth reading. My favorite is still Trinity, twenty-five titles in the past fifty years. Four runner-up finishes over that span.

I was a little surprised that Trinity beat Seneca by "only 13". That was based solely on results from the past few years. This puts it in a little different light. Seneca has apparently upped its game. X will get better as they integrate the football players into the team, but this has to be a very disappointing loss.

It may not be rocket science but there was enough science to notice that on the jet sweeps everyone was cheating outside. That lead to the cut inside and a 93 yard touchdown. You are right. If he hadn't been the fastest guy on the field someone would have caught him after 30 or 40 yards. The coaches noticed what would get him in the open to use the speed. The coaches had a play ready that would exploit the cheating outside. The coaches had the team practice the play. And the coaches were the ones that used effective clock management to deliver an extra touchdown before the half. You can make excuses that it is just better players that make the difference, but better coaches make better players and better coaches attract better players.

I'd also add in some late hits. Those have the potential to let the game get out of hand if retaliation starts. Fortunately, I didn't see any retaliation. I had an opinion during the game but kept it to myself because usually when I look at the film I find that there was a basis for the call. This time, it was worse after I saw the film.

After watching the rebroadcast I do have a question for some of the folks that are involved in officiating the games. Is there any kind of review or grading of the officials after these games? There were a number of calls where you might disagree with the call and others where they flat got it wrong. Perhaps the most egregious was the first play from scrimmage. They called illegal man downfield on number 52. I'm not sure what they saw but it sure wasn't that. Look at the replay at the 29:02 mark. He retreats into pass blocking on the snap and is in the end zone when the ball is thrown. The other linemen are also visible in the shot, so it isn't a case of getting the number wrong.

Let’s stop this nonsense. X had a huge advantage with the size of their receivers. They didn’t know how to get open and the quarterback couldn’t place the ball where they could use the size advantage. The X passing game was to throw jump balls and hope. It worked a few times, but not nearly enough. The difference in this game was the coaches.

The little details ARE the difference between great coaching and good coaching. X may not be that far away but it is far enough. It is funny that we are talking about how close a 17 point win was.

The bolded items would seem to contradict each other. Schemes, player development and predictability are all coaching. Coaching is more than just knowledge. It is also the ability to teach that knowledge and more importantly (and this is Coach Beatty's biggest strength) it is the willingness to demand that everyone involved in the program from coaches to players to support staff do whatever is necessary to prepare. I watched the replay last night. I couldn't get over how many times Bill Ransdell commented that the X quarterback threw off the wrong foot. I don't doubt that someone had taught him how to throw. I don't doubt that he knows how to throw. I do doubt that anyone ever demanded that he keep doing it over and over until he didn't know any other way to throw and if he didn't, next man up. There is another thread asking who was the best quarterback in the final twelve. I didn't see most of them so I won't comment. I also don't know who has the most potential in college. What I do know is that I saw one quarterback in the 6A game that had put in the time with his coaches and teammates to be an OUTSTANDING high school quarterback and the best on the field. Another thread asks if the outcome would have been different if Rondale Moore had changed teams. I doubt that, but I am sure that X would have won if the teams changed coaching staffs.

All of this talk about transfers really irks me. Kids transfer because their family has decided that is what is best for them. End of story. For what it is worth, a kid transferring to Trinity gets a world class education in a disciplined but nurturing environment with the best coaches in the region. Why don’t more kids transfer.

I’m not sure that the X program has deteriorated. Trinity has gotten better. The string of losses didn’t start when Coach Wolford was hired, it started after the tip of the hat. That was Coach Glaser’s last win. I don’t know what X does to catch up. My guess is wait for Coach Beatty to retire.

I will give you comments all the attention they deserve, that is, none. Kids transfer in and out of schools all the time. Why is it different if they play sports?

No, but St X would have made him a very nice cornerback.
