How will this district look? Somerset on top with Monroe and Green battling for 2/3 and then metcalfe/clinton battling for a long bus ride to Lexington? or is there something I am missing?

It has to be a mix of what the coaching staff knows and what they are comfortable with combined with what they think the kids will enjoy. Many believe that if you have an old system (tried and true) kids will not come out and play. To them it may seem boring. Therefore, even if its a bad product, if you are throwing the ball, more athletic kids may come and play for you and you'll eventually get better at it.. maybe

All in cycles... Single Wing in the 40s, Wing t in the 50s, Wishbone in the 60s, I formation in the 70s and mixing in shotgun until the late 2000s into true spread and RPO stuff now. Defenses have changed with the times and the athletes have too. So many people use a variety of all of these systems. Many GAP schemes seem to be making a comeback sense the defenses seem to be faster and less gap discipline overall. I wouldn't be surprised to see all these ideas continually cycle into the distant future and they would adapt to the players they have on the field.

In my experience. Creating the playsheet is enough to really organize my thoughts. I have a front and a a back. The front of the sheet has things organized by what play series we are working with (trap, buck, waggle. belly, belly sweep, etc. passing concepts as well.) the bottom of the page has situationals such as 3rd/4th down, script, 3rd and long, 2 pt. etc. The back is where I try and be a little different. I have it spread out to show plays for every gap instead of the series at the top of the page. I have 5-6 plays for each of my playmakers to get the ball at the bottom. 3 ways of thinking, series, gap, player. and the personnels are highlighted for the differences. Honestly rarely look at it. creating it makes me in the correct head space. When I've tried to look at it I get caught up in finding the correct play call and less time trying to find a groove in the game.

Do they drop off, or do they stay near the top of 3A? I keep hearing every year the past couple years that they will fall off, but seem to be holding steady.

We run into this from time to time it seems like. I don't know him at all and looked him up after the media release, I have to Agree with Colonels Wear Blue as well as these other guys. This has I want to be a head coach at my alma mater and I don't know the best way to use public pressure all over it. These pro guys know so much football it's truly amazing, but being thrown in the fire of being a head coach at a historic school with unknown responsibilities and organizational needs such as player management and development of young men. He may be fine but the public outcry for support screams ignorance. Am I crazy?

Schedule is definitely tougher than the previous cycle.. Coach Myers has his test coming in his second year facing southwestern, Bowling Green, Grayson, Greenwood, and a defending TN state champion Macon County. we'll see how competitive they are this year after last years very special season, I believe they ended 10-3. I could see anywhere from 4-6 to 8-2 regular season.

Not completely sure its named yet, Don Franklin is sponsoring it I believe so some derivative of Don Franklin Bowl.

This is all correct. Attempts of keeping games in the city of Glasgow and cutting down on travel. Original talks of having the Scottie Bowl week one, Trojan Turf war week 2 and both teams playing in each others bowl and then each other in their home/away series, essentially creating 3 games with no travel early in the season. Logistics of setting the events up and interested teams are hard to come by so they settled on this format.

How good do you guys think this kid will be? Jacob Tamme or Michael Mayer level or will he surpass them?

I believe Monroe has one more year of being competitive and has several players returning. That district game may be a decent matchup and probable district deciding game. I would have to lean towards Somerset being the favorite. Even making another deep playoff run.

Lost a lot of seniors in another "chosen ones" class. The only other class similar dates back to 2016 when they lost 21 of 22 starters. This Included the All Time Leading Rusher and arguably the best of the Grant brothers to come through there. District is less elite this year adding a young LaRue County, Edmonson County, and Butler County graduated a large senior class as well. Glasgow and Hart are the favorites, but Adair may still end up as a 2-3 seed depending on how everything falls. Should still be competitive with their rivals Russell County and Metcalfe. Look forward to seeing what Coach Cross is up to over there. They seem to have scheduled well with Casey and McCreary Central out of Conference and the last game of the season vs Campbellsville would be a nice test of how competitive they truly are going into the playoffs.

They treat any kick past the LOS with the same rules, Punt/FG/Blocked kick. I remember in 2017-18 era when Franklin-Simpson didn't have a punt team at all and only used their FG team, even in the state championship games.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe their enrollment is closer to the 2A category and they may have elected to play up into 3A. I am 90% sure of this and I am not sure of the email or page where I saw male population of the school.

Petett retired in 2016 and came back in 2020. I thought Arnett was at Barren entirely in the gap. I thought it would have been the first time they would have faced each other, I was still incorrect. They did play in 2020, Barren winning 27-6.

RPI doesn't matter truly until the 3rd round... I think Glasgow would be happy to get that far and worry about RPI then. Honestly, 3A is probably the one class where RPI probably doesn't matter assuming you can avoid Central and CAL.

Monroe should be a pretty decent contender in their district and may make a playoff run, don't get an RPI boost for playing up a class for Glasgow, but a solid program this year coming perhaps, similar to Russellville in 2021 helped Glasgow to that #2 RPI. Yearly rival and gate money would mean they wouldn't drop them for anything... plus Arnett is from Monroe...assuming he takes the job... probably excited about a matchup with his former coach. I believe Billy Joe Murphy was the coach there when he was the HC at Barren and did not get the opportunity to return then.

had heard they were raising it to around $10,000 most comparable sized schools are around 12-14 in the area, often less successful I might add. I heard that Barren pays their coach 17. not sure there, and my apologies CDP on the boyle programs canceling practice, rumor that wasn't true. those of us who break down the hours and responsibilities and stress this number is truly only about $10/hour maybe more/less for a football coach (30-40 hours during the season/week) 10-15 hours a week during the off season, mowing the fields 3 football fields 3 times a week, it's not about the money, but the money sends a little respect appreciated.

Other names that were interested but decided to not pursue due to various reasons were allegedly Brad Hood from Allen (not sure why he would leave), Brandon Smith from South Warren (inquired, but I don't think was serious, also heard was at one point interested in Owensboro), Jason Foley from Southwestern (unsure of interest or motivation) several assistant coaches from prominent schools that would unfortunately have to take pay cuts to become a head coach. Not sure exactly what the stipend is I had heard that Coach Garmon was making in the $7500 range and maybe a little bit more for "field maintenance" and other programs were nearly double that in the area. Better than those two guys... I mean I think the more I am around sports, I believe there are good coaches and bad coaches, sometimes there are better fits for programs due to personalities, but we don't really know until they get the kids, assistant coaches and community to buy in Honestly, this was the point I was attempting to make with Griffin, he has the kids at Hart county drinking the kool-aid, and has the ability I think to win 6-7 games a year even in down years with preferred scheduling, why would he leave that? Also heard he got that job at central office writing grants? Coach Arnett seems to be a good fit. polished pedigree and history coaching kids with the similar demographics as Glasgow up there in Boyle, and has been a head coach before. has family in the area and would be the coach at Glasgow for 15+ years... seems like a slam dunk. My only concern would be the culture difference of expectations between the schools. I have heard they have football practice before school and baseball and track cancels practice in the spring for spring practice. not sure if little things like that would be able to be accomplished here, but maybe the culture can be a little more serious and players would buy into it

From what I hear, Those are the two obvious choices. They interviewed about 4 people and the other two weren't good fits(former Trigg Co. coach forgot his name but also coached at PT this past year, and a Greenwood assistant). I think we'll know more in the next couple days after Glasgow inevitably reaches out to Arnett.

I am sure Coach Griffin is a good person, I have heard he is very egotistical, but who isn't? Let's not forget before these last couple of classes, which if I am not wrong won some sort of middle school state championship or were runners up or something, very talented group and would have been successful regardless of who was at the helm, again not taking anything away from Coach Griffin. He has had a great run the last 3 years with a 9-3, 13-1, and 12-1 record and as a result has been asked to speak at many coaching clinics and such and has been very cordial. This was an extraordinary group from Hart County and he has capitalized greatly. "you can't win without talent, but you can sure lose with it" Before this group his record was a combined 22-37.. I do not want to condemn this man, but I think Glasgow has better options available and should reach out to them. He obviously has created a stable program at Hart and as long as he is able to schedule the Cavernas, LaRues, Butlers, and Nelson Counties when they are down. I think he will continue to win 6-7 games a years there as momentum of winning may allow his team to feel confident and get 1 or 2 they may not be favored in.

As someone who has paid attention to this program for the last 4-5 years and admired for many years prior and have been watching this thread very frequently. These rumors are essentially fact. This KY coaching fraternity runs deep in this area and coaches talk. This top 5 program in Central KY with a plethora of athletes, top teacher pay for the area, administrative support, and investment in facilities has not kept up with the surrounding areas and times. They had 3 paid assistants and 2 volunteers last year because this program refuses to attract quality assistants. They have new administration all around in the last few years, from the superintendent, high school principal, both assistant principals, and seem to approve of extracurriculars, but do not seem to truly value it. This is not the Glasgow that won 9 out of 12 district championships from 2010-2021. There are a lot of good people who care about these kids in the staff, who have largely coached many of the kids since middle school, but it just feels like they are succeeding in spite of the parents and administration, not with their support. I don't blame Coach Griffin for everything involved, he did the exact same thing last year when he was offered the barren county job, he wants what is best for himself and his family. Glasgow seems to be okay allowing it to happen. It's just another job vacancy that needs to be filled for them. Surprising to me how they seem content allowing a coach take so much time in deciding, allegedly a 3rd personal option of his, when another candidate is hungry for the opportunity and qualified. Perhaps Glasgow is taking this approach because they have the recently retired coach Garmon in their back pocket who loves the program so much has publicly stated he would resume coaching duties is they couldn't find anyone better to replace him and potentially become an assistant if the new coach needed help.
