Simon Kenton in Lucas' second stint: 2021: 2-9 (First Round loss vs Dixie Heights, 38-7) - DH lost to Ryle in 2nd round 2022: 9-4 (Second Round loss vs Trinity, 51-20) - T lost to Bryan Station in QFs 2023: 5-5 (First Round loss vs Fern Creek, 36-32) - FC lost to Male in 2nd round 2024: 4-7 (First Round loss vs St. Xavier, 48-13) that's' a 20-25 record and with no postseason run lasting more than two rounds. I have always viewed SK as a good program with plenty of potential but always on the cusp outside those top-tier teams in 6A. They were, under Marksberry, in the title game in 2008 and had to beat Male to get there. One of three 6A schools in NKY. Should be very interesting to see who gets this job.

Thanks, @Tigerpride94. Was wondering how things went yesterday in that scrimmage between the Tigers and Purples. Season just weeks away. Can't wait for those seventh region battles. That rivalry game between the Rocks and Tigers included.

The Trinity Shamrocks (9-2) will welcome the Fern Creek Tigers (6-5) to Marshall Stadium on Friday night for the second round of the 6A playoffs. Trinity is coming off a 63-0 win over Southern while Fern Creek beat Oldham County 16-7 last week. The Shamrocks have not faced much tough competition in many weeks and has now extended their streak of allowing zero touchdowns to five games. I like Trinity in this matchup and think they can win easier but I expect Fern Creek to give them some fits that the Rocks haven't seen in weeks. Defensive end Travis Moten could especially be a challenge for a Trinity O line that has struggled at times. Fern Creek QB Kaleb Passmore (great Qb name) has also been solid with two good weapons in Patrick Carr and TJ Cothron. Friday will be the first meeting between the Shamrocks and Tigers since 2006. Common opponents: Oldham County, Eastern, Male, and Southern. Vs Oldham County: Trinity 42-0 W, Fern Creek 7-6 L and 16-7 W Vs Male: Trinity 24-21 W, Fern Creek 17-0 L Vs Eastern: Trinity 49-0 W, Fern Creek 39-0 W Vs Southern: Trinity 63-0 W, Fern Creek 48-0 W

Not sure I'd put Eastern above either Manual or Ballard. The Bruins are a team I want to see before I make any judgments on but don't expect back to back "down" years from them. Manual has one of the best backcourts in the city with Decker and Coleman. Could be very dangerous. A clear top three of T, X, and Male is certainly there. Put them in whatever order you'd like in the preseason. Expect a battle between those three.

1A - Pikeville 2A - Owensboro Catholic 3A - Central 4A - Boyle County 5A - Cooper 6A - Trinity The two I feel most confident about is Trinity and Boyle County. Have a hard time seeing Boyle losing to anyone in the state regardless of class. I'm a Trinity guy and I think given how things will likely unfold with the RPI reseeding the Shamrocks have a great benefit to get to Kroger Field and do so with an easier path than others. In 1A, Pikeville hasn't had the best year record wise but has played some tough competition. One of the biggest rosters and maybe the most well-funded program in 1A. Can never count them out. In 2A, I think OC is above the rest and would love to see them finish the job this year. Central has shown what they are made of and has been tested well. Will likely have to go through CAL again. Been very impressed with Cooper and would love to see them get their first title in a unbeaten season.

Another slight correction: Trinity leads the series 13-4. 17 meetings overall. Last meeting in the 2010 playoffs. Six of the meetings between the Shamrocks and Trojans have come in the postseason. That includes the 1973 AAA title game in which Trinity beat a Phil Simms-led Southern team 16-0 under first-year head coach Dave Moore. Was the first pair of consecutive title wins for the Shamrocks.

Yes. Both are still very much at Trinity. As previously stated in another discussion, just an error in the system on the KHSAA/Riherds side. Not the only players or teams I've seen errors with either.

The Trinity Shamrocks (8-2) will welcome the Southern Trojans (2-8) to Marshall Stadium for a first round playoff game on Friday night. Trinity enters the playoffs on a four-game winning streak and having not allowed a TD since the first half of that 16-10 rivalry game loss vs St. X on Sep. 28th. With the Rocks expected to earn a blowout win here in the first round, could that streak continue? Southern comes into Friday riding a six-game losing streak.

It has been a wild year in 6A for sure. The traditional Louisville powers of Manual, Trinity, Male, and St. Xavier have all been good while Ryle has been a surprise, at least to me, in how they have played. Anybody can win on any given night. Should be a fun playoffs.

Has been a good one in Paducah. 24-17 Graves Co. entering the fourth quarter.

Congrats to the Crimson on a huge win. Male injuries played a part but outstanding effort from Manual to take everything they could tonight. That defense was especially impressive.

Great write-up on the outlook of the season in the eighth region, @Bballjunkie! I agree Woodford, South Oldham, and Simon Kenton will likely be the top teams. The addition of Boone to Woodford certainly pushed the Yellowjackets over the edge as the favorites, in my book. I'm looking at North Oldham and Collins as the more "sleepers" in the region that could make some big noise. Levitch at NO is a great coach and Collins always has seem to have the talent and athletes to compete.

Before the injuries, even seeing how good Manual was playing, I would have favored Male here as I think they have better all-around talent. But especially with Burton being out I like the Crimson's chances on Friday night to get the win. I do see, however, Harris giving the Manual defense fits as he has done to pretty much every defense all year.

In terms of playoffs in 6A, districts three and six will be cross-bracketed while four and five will as well. Trinity earns the blowout victory in Buckner to end the regular season. The Shamrocks district five champions in 6A. Was not much of a contest at all from the start. Looked like a completely different Oldham team than the one we've seen all season. Those injuries were impactful for sure. The Colonels could not move the ball all night. Pretty sure I can count on one hand the amount of times they got passed the 50 and maybe even the 40. Trinity QB Zane Johnson was 12-for-14, 199 yards, and 3TDs. Jeremiah Lynn with two receiving TDs for the Shamrocks. Chris Wilson had 101 yards rushing and 2TDs. Trinity beat their opponents 118-3 (111-0 vs district competition) in the month of October and did not allow a TD all month. On to the playoffs.

The Trinity Shamrocks (7-2) close the regular season on the road against district foe Oldham County (6-2) on Friday night. Trinity is coming off a 49-0 win at Eastern. Oldham County is coming off a 7-0 loss at Ballard. These two programs have played seven times in history with Trinity winning all seven meetings. That includes a 38-0 Shamrocks win last season. Heading into next week, Trinity is the clear favorite in this one. However, the Colonels can't be slept on. The Rocks need to come out strong and can't afford to have another slow start like they did against Ballard two weeks ago, as well as Cincy X and St. X in the weeks prior. QB Zane Johnson will be rested after being given the Eastern game off and he will have his best O-lineman Nate Shields back in the lineup with him. Should help that T line, which has struggled at times, a good deal. JB Berry will also see his first full game back. He just played a few snaps vs Eastern with Chris Wilson and Benji Rice getting most of the time at RB. In the blowout win, the T D-line was able to eat up Eastern as expcted. That will be a matchup to watch in this one and will likely be a key one, as well. The Shamrocks have not allowed a TD since the first half of the St. X game on Sept. 28. I was impressed with Oldham County against Ballard and they have been much improved all year. That defense is solid. However, despite getting the ball in the red zone multiple times the Colonels kept coming up empty. Derek Dees has over 1,000 passing yards and 15 TD tosses on the year. Miller Brown and Brooks Kightlinger have been his two favorite weapons. Ballard held that passing game in check. Jayden Corum leads the Colonels rushing attack. Brown is a particularly good weapon all over for Oldham County. He can lineup as a WR and make plays out the back field. He also leads them in tackles as well and is a good return man. Going with Trinity in this one but I have a feeling Oldham will bring everything they have. And if that's the case, the Shamrocks need to break some of the bad habits (slow starts) they seem to have as the Colonels seem to have what it takes to possibly jump on an opportunity.
