Kain Logan & Jakeem Ray are two more that I can think of, making at least 6. I also think Ethan Milburn started out playing but may not have made it past preseason. He’s a junior (this year) that played basketball all along and was the best player in that class. He is still at Boyle and would have been a big help for this year’s team but didn’t even come out this year.

Makes sense. They did look tired. And the bigger rotation will will help with that this year. I really do think they’re the clear favorite right now with the 2 bigs and Boyd being supported by a lot of kids accepting their roles well. And that D!

I think they look sharper then they did towards the end of last season. But they looked really good early and mid last season, so they’ll have to maintain. I also think the fact that they’re playing more kids this year will ultimately help them later in the season.

Of the 4 that left, I believe all went to Boyle to start middle school. Which would make this year 5 for them. But I think I get your point that not being from there could make them less “loyal” to Boyle and also indicates they likely have the means to make a change, thus they may be less likely to stay/be stuck in a bad situation. As far as the juniors I mentioned, they’ve been at Boyle as long as I can remember. And still attend. Regardless of whether they left the school or just chose to no longer play basketball for Boyle, my point is bigger picture. It has been an issue for a few years now. In addition to this discussion about who isn’t there this season, I can think of at least 6 kids that quit during the season last year. And I don’t think any left Boyle at that time.

I think Hutchinson has the potential to be a top 3 player in the region. He is a tough matchup.

I know you are close to the program and would obviously be exposed to that side of it but, if you just look at the sheer numbers, it tells a story. Also, that doesn’t jive with what I’ve heard. For those 2 players or for the other 5 soph/juniors that I referenced. I will grant you that a lot of parents around the program haven’t been pleased for a while, and that unhappy kids generally leads to disgruntled parents. But from what I know and what I have been told, I truly believe all of those were player driven decisions.

Don’t forget that they also lost another good (sophomore) player over the summer when the Sexton kid went to Mercer. It was expected that be would be a contributor for Boyle this year and then likely their starting point guard the next two years. But beyond those 4 sophomores, it is worth noting that they’ve had zero points scored by a junior this year. Of the 15 players that have gotten in a varsity game, there’s only been 1 junior. Their top 3 players in that junior class also quit basketball over the past couple years (they still attend Boyle). As far as Gooden, he has started all year, was averaging double figures, and was arguably their most skilled offensive player. He was their best 3 point shooter, which they definitely needed, but could also get in the lane. I would have expected either he or Driver to have been their second leading scorer (behind Brown) given their current roster. Definitely a kid they can’t afford to lose this year, and even more so the next two years.

Would really like to see this one as well. I’d have a hard time not going with the home team in this matchup, but I do think DCA is the better team at this point.

I like your tiers and agree with them. While I think in January we will see some in that third tier separate from others, I do think there’s clearly a “top 10.”

Both are top 10 teams. Should be a great regional tournament.

I still think St X is the best team in the state and that entire top 10 is deserving. I also think that Lloyd, GRC & Woodford will all be over the next month as they assimilate players and get everyone healthy.

Big win for Woodford. They have the potential to beat anyone in the state, and that’s without Jointer. When he gets back, I think they’re as good as anyone, period.

Not surprised with your comment on Phillips. He’s a very good player, great shooter and plays high IQ basketball.

That’s what I’ve been observing for the last few years. And it’s not just with the three ball. It’s shot selection in general. And it’s a huge factor in their lackluster shooting percentages the last few years. There is a lack of offensive discipline, a lack of definition of roles for players, and generally poor shot selection. IMO that’s the biggest part of why they've underperformed their potential the past few years. As opposed to it being because they had a roster of “football players.” The good news is, even with all of the above, they had every chance to win AT Wayne. I still think they can be very competitive in the 12th and make it to the regional tournament.

Rock is playing again today so I wonder if they’ll have any suspensions for that game.

Looking at Wayne’s resume, the West Jessamine win stands out. Not too strong otherwise but it’s never an easy place to play! Did Brown have a significant impact on this one defensively? He certainly did last year.

Rock needed this win. They were 2-10 coming into this game having lost their last two (by 36 & 35) to Betsy Lane and LCA.

A little closer than I expected. I know Paige being back for Danville makes a big difference.
