Statsdontlie Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Nice win for Wayne County, Boyle was down double digits in the 2nd half and came back to force OT.
QueenoftheSouth Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Looking at Wayne’s resume, the West Jessamine win stands out. Not too strong otherwise but it’s never an easy place to play! Did Brown have a significant impact on this one defensively? He certainly did last year.
12th Region Fan Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Good win for the young Cardinals. I expect them to improve as the season goes on. If they can find another true scoring threat to help Phillips then they will be a tough out for someone.
24Rocks Posted January 4 Posted January 4 I tried to watch it but my video feed on YouTube was really glitchy. it would play for a couple of seconds and freeze. What I did observe was the following: Brown, and Boyle in general, was applying a lot of pressure to Wayne's guards and it seemed to disrupt their offense some. I'd have to see good video to determine just how much. Phillips was the best player on the floor. He can flat out shoot the ball. The Boyle players just seem to randomly decide to launch a three at times. Their three point attempts aren't always taken in the context of their offense or with rebounders in position. If Driver had any shooting touch at all he'd be a great basketball prospect. He's big and really athletic but outside of a few feet it's like he's just throwing it in the general direction of the basket.
Statsdontlie Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 Boyle takes A LOT of head scratching 3s from players that have no business shooting them.

That’s what I’ve been observing for the last few years. And it’s not just with the three ball. It’s shot selection in general. And it’s a huge factor in their lackluster shooting percentages the last few years. There is a lack of offensive discipline, a lack of definition of roles for players, and generally poor shot selection. IMO that’s the biggest part of why they've underperformed their potential the past few years. As opposed to it being because they had a roster of “football players.” The good news is, even with all of the above, they had every chance to win AT Wayne. I still think they can be very competitive in the 12th and make it to the regional tournament. 2
12th Region Sports Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Boyle has a huge upside but careless turnovers, poor shooting, poor shot selection and lack of composure seems to be a running theme now. Offense struggles to get easy shots. Defense is physical and can create some havoc but good teams handle that. Boyle strength could be rebounding but when you miss a lot I guess that means you can rebound alot too🤣. Wayne had moments that they looked good and moments they looked bad. Wayne tried to give the game away twice. Kendall phillips is a great player. Would love to see him be more aggressive getting to the basket. I thought he got passive towards the end when he needed to attack. Good win for wayne though just to be in a close one and to come out on top. Confidence builder for a group of kids that needed it.

He’s a very good player, great shooter and plays high IQ basketball.

Agree with all of this. Boyle has the pieces but something is missing to me. I really like the Driver kid and thought he should have been utilized more in this game. Wayne has a lot of room to grow and improve. Phillips has been passive some in the 2nd half of games this year but he drew some fouls and hit his free throws in this one. Looking at the stats, I thought he shot better than 3-9 from the field but he finished with 18 points. Bell, a sophomore, played well with 18 pts 11 rebounds. All of these kids for Wayne have been in the Woods' system since the 5th grade so I still think there is some confusion sometimes as to what Coach Parmley is wanting in certain situations which may make them all look passive and confused at times. That will just take time. Wayne had some boneheaded plays on offense but I think their defense was solid for the most part.
24Rocks Posted January 5 Posted January 5 I'd really like to watch this game. Given the low cost and high quality of the technology we have today you'd think we could get a decent quality video feed. There are plenty of students who have the expertise and would love to run the equipment.
