Rockcastle County 59 Somerset 54

Featured Replies

Good District win for Rockcastle County.

Somerset had the ball and a 3 point lead late in the 4th quarter, and just did not finish.  They were really loose with the ball late, and the turnovers did them in.  That was one the Jumpers let get away.

Rock needed this win. They were 2-10 coming into this game having lost their last two (by 36 & 35) to Betsy Lane and LCA.

I heard at breakfast this morning that this one ended in chaos. Supposedly Coach Young got a technical with 20 something seconds left, and things kind of came unglued. Players got in a fight, benches cleared, and maybe a few fans got in the mix as well. I wonder if any players got ejected?

Rock is playing again today so I wonder if they’ll have any suspensions for that game.

I watched it on HUDL so there was no commentary.  All I'm going on was what I observed.  Somerset was down 2 with 37 seconds left when Coach Young got the technical (I wrote it down for some strange reason, I think I wanted to see how it played out......).  He evidently said something the official didn't like.  He wasn't out of the coaches box or ranting and raving.

At the very end of the game Bartley and a Rockcastle player exchanged shoves and had to be separated.  A fan was ejected who I assume was a Somerset fan since he was sitting right behind their bench.  I wasn't aware of any players being ejected.  They skipped the handshake line and went straight to the locker room.

These district matchups in the 12th can be super intense.  Somerset had been playing well against similar competition and have a very physical team.  Rock has been struggling a lot and desperately needed a win.  This was a huge win for them.  One thing I know for a fact is that coach young gets after it.  He is a competitor.

An official with an axe to grind over a previous game.  But, like a previous poster said Somerset had multiple chances to close the thing out in regulation and their ballhandling/decision making really let them down.  The technical bled over to the events that followed.  Sometimes, unfortunately it happens in a heated rivalry game like these two.  Both players exchanged punches (with neither landing, but Bartley was the only one ejected).  Which, led to the fan outburst.  Rock played well, and #20 Hunt really dominated the game on the interior.  FTS shot in the game were Rock-27 and Somerset-11.  Some of that was #20, and some of that was uhhh... you can figure it out.

I appreciate the objectivity.  He was simply talking to the ref in a calm manner.  I've seen a lot worst, so for the situation I don't think it was warranted to essentially put the game to rest.  And obviously, the chaos that ensued was a direct result of the decision.  Hindsight is 20/20 though.

Somerset will be getting Josh Lewis back anytime, and need his shooting touch/experience badly.

Unless it was something really egregious, in a 2 point game with less than a minute left, the ref needs to let the players decide it.

Will Bartley have to sit out against DCA?

Yes.

This is huge for them! I thought when he had is injury that it would require him to miss the entire year.

Recovery has went better than expected.  He’s been doing non contact stuff the past month, and will be playing soon.  They need the scoring addition behind Absher.
