They aren’t quick or athletic, yet did just fine against a much more athletic GRC team. A well coached team that’s ranked 6th in the state and (IMO) considerably better than any team in the 12th. They’re the most fundamentally sound team and are extremely well coached. Their kids seem to know their roles, which isn’t the norm in today’s high school game. That’s worth a ton. I'm not saying they won’t lose any 12th region games. But I do think they’re going to be the best team in the region all year long. Could they get knocked off in the regional tournament? Sure, but that is true for every regional favorite in the state.

Yep, after watching that game, I don’t think there’s any question they’re the best team in the 12th. Very impressed with how they fared against a top 10 team. Before the game, I thought they’d lose by 15+. I’ll be really surprised if they don’t repeat as regional champion. Such a well coached team with a feeder system that serves them well. The Fraleys are Pulaski County basketball!

Well, Boyle will have their football players back a lot earlier than normal and than expected. They play Burgin on the 3rd but will have 3 full weeks of practice before playing their second game (which is against Southwestern). With the extra time and everyone playing that is being rumored to be, I think there are high expectations for what they can do in the 12th this year. Lots of talent, size and athleticism. I think where they are rated preseason probably has more to do with how they’ve done the last few years than their actual potential.

I’ve heard so many conflicting things about who is/isn’t playing. I look forward to seeing who shows up when the football season ends. Talent wise, they may be able to compete with anyone in the region OR they may be in trouble. Time will tell.

I heard that West Jessamine has a couple of kids from LCA that are pretty good. Anyone know of them and how much they’ll really add? They also have the 6’10” kid who is eligible this year, and apparently he is looking really good. In addition to 2 Trinity Christian players, including their best player. I thought their group last year played harder than about any team you’ll see. Add a fair amount of talent and Coach Adams and they may be the sleeper in the 12th this year.

I agree. I’m hearing they have a few new kids that will help them including the big kid that sat out last year. They will be well coached and disciplined for sure. I just haven’t seen it yet to be comfortable with putting them in the top tier, but it’s certainly possible.

My understanding is likely out for the season. Really hate to hear that for any kid, and he is probably the best offensive player in the region.

No way Mercer should be worse than 2nd. Some of that may be that people aren’t aware of the PG transfer they have. He’s going to make a huge difference as that is what they were missing last year. They have the best player in the region in Ellis along with a top coach in the region, and a host of experienced guys returning. They may be the best team, definitely in the top 2 along with Pulaski. DCA doesn’t have enough scoring unless they can really slow things down, which will be tough to do against certain teams given their lack of ball handling (outside of Boyd). Losing Fugate was a huge blow for them. I think they’ll really struggle to be top 5. Craig’s injury is a devastating blow for Rock. I can’t see them in the top tier without him. I do think Southwest may be a team in the hunt, though I don’t think they have enough to be on par with the top 2 teams. With the Boyle roster (as discussed), on paper I think they have enough size, length, athleticism and scoring to compete with anyone on this list. Brown, Turner and Hager are all guys that can get 20 on a given night. Seneca Driver is a rebounding machine who will get a lot of buckets in the lane. He and Hager both are defensive presences in the lane, and Brown is an elite on ball defender. And yes, Quisenberry was their offense by getting in the lane. But that gets back to the statement I made earlier about Boyle not running sets to get guys open. If they will instead do that, and get looks in the flow of the offense, I don’t believe that roster will struggle to score.

Responding to a few things said about Boyle: Turner is a good 3 point shooter, and Brown is at least average. If you watch Boyle, their offense doesn’t create many easy shots. That is going to negatively impact shooting percentages. If they can figure that out, I think Turner shoots high 30’s from 3, maybe better. Hager is 6’6” and Driver is 6’7.” Different players with different skill sets that should complement each other well. Even without Quisenberry, I think that lineup is as talented as any in the region. Brown, Turner, Smith, Hager, S Driver, Webb, Gooden, B Driver. That lineup will present a matchup problem for a lot of teams. But I’ve thought that about their rosters the last couple years, thinking they had a very good shot at winning region both years. If they can play with a lot more discipline, they should be really good in the 12th. I will say that I don’t have direct knowledge of who is/isn’t playing this year for them. Just going by what’s being said on here. Clearly, any key subtractions could really change the outlook.

Read today that Quisenberry will be leaving Boyle in December for UK (football). He was a top 10 caliber player in the region and his absence will definitely hurt Boyle.

I think it’s wide open at this point assuming thr football players don’t play at Boyle. DCA would probably be the favorite. If they all play, they’d have have to be the favorite in the district as no one else would be close talent wise. They’d have the talent to compete for the regional title. But that’s been the case for them the last 2 years and they’ve underachieved on both, so I don’t expect that to happen.

At the end of the day, no one else has Quisenberry. Ask the #12 team in the nation about him. And Brown is also better than most any offensive player in the state. There are lots of other things that come into play such as defense, coaching, the line(s), etc. But no one has an answer for those two. They just don’t.

Why do you think that? With their history, including multiple high level guys on last year’s team, they should have a revolving door of college coaches coming to school to watch guys work out. Including guys that aren’t getting significant game reps at that point. It hapens at Boyle, so I’m sure it would happen at a school like that too.

Full disclosure, I have no inside knowledge as to his reasoning. But I wouldn’t assume he’s looking at it as what’s it’s “going to do.” At the end of the day, a kid should be playing the sport to have fun. If he doesn’t feel like he will have fun given the current situation, I certainly can understand why he wouldn’t play.

Given that he transferred from Wayne when Coach Woods was let go, and that he’s always been a Wayne basketball kid, I would guess that he wants to be at Wayne but doesn’t like the coaching situation. Total guess on my part but makes sense given the facts. Unfortunate situation that the kid shouldn’t have had to deal with.

I have no idea. I was asking @Rebel what position they play. Maybe they can tell us both the name and position.

Not playing at Wayne either? If so, that’s a shame. Does he play any other sports? And that makes a huge difference for Pulaski. I realize they’ll still be good but not nearly as good as with him.
