Boyle’s top 5 scorers average 12, 11, 10, 8 & 8. And they lost another double figure scorer to transfer a couple weeks ago. That’s about as much parity as you will see on a high school team. So I don’t agree with the narrative that they have 2 players and then there’s a drastic drop off. The numbers say otherwise. This Boyle roster has plenty of talent to be a top team in the 12th this year.

Absolutely. That’s been a problem with Boyle over the last 3+ years. A lack of discipline on shot selection has been a real Achilles heel for them. Little movement on offense other than what’s created off the dribbble. Seemingly no focus on getting the ball to the kids that should be shooting it as opposed to those who shouldn’t and just an issue with overall quality of looks. Hard to tell, by watching their games, who the staff felt was their best offensive option(s). Haven’t really seen that since Imfeld graduated, and I think that was just because he was a prolific scorer who had the ball in his hands by default. Still an impressive win by Lincoln, especially given the margin. I previously stated that Boyle was double figures better from a talent perspective, and I stand by that. Clearly the coaching advantage goes to Lincoln, and you saw that in their defensive adjustments. I also said that it would take a very good shooting night by Lincoln to beat Boyle, and I think that’s what happened last night.

One thing you can be sure of is that Coach Jackson will do what he can to give his teams the best chance to win.

I get why people would be opposed to transfers during the season. On the other hand, I tend to give the benefit of the doubt to the kids, especially out of season. Athletes aren’t the property of the school. Kids that participate in other extra curricular activities can transfer at any time and participate in those activities without restriction. Including some that are competitive in nature. Why should athletics be held to a different standard? They only have 4 years and should be able to enjoy their time.

Agree not a good sign for the 12th, but while anything is possible, I don’t think Lincoln can beat DCA. Mercer and Pulaski probably have the best shot. And though they just obliterated Boyle, with the right officials allowing physical play, they might have a chance.

Repping the 12th Region well in 2025! Congrats to them and to Boyd. I will be curious to see what kind of run they can make in the postseason.

I think your top 4 are about what I thought they should be all along. Based solely on potential, not their results to date. And now the results are maybe starting to align more with the potential. Frankly, it’s more about the the rest of the field not getting it done as opposed to what that group has done - with the lone exception of DCA (they’re killing it). While Pulaski has looked a little better of late, in a normal year for the region, they would’ve had to do much more than they have to get back near the top. Likewise for Mercer. And while Boyle’s record is decent, they still don’t have a quality win IMO. And lots of people disagreed with me along the way about whether Boyle had “that level” of athleticism this year. I think we are now seeing that, though maybe not as athletic as in recent years, in this region this year, they’re very athletic (comparatively). The only team they can’t simply “out athlete” is DCA. After those 4 teams, I really think that Southwest has the most talent and thus the possibility to be relevant in the regional tournament.

This is a really nice win for DCA. They beat a really good team by 15, while holding them to 29 points. Hazard was 19-2 coming in and had wins over Ashland and Harlan County. Good luck to the Warriors!

I will admit that Lincoln plays a more challenging schedule. Boyle’s is the weakest that I recall for a long time, and Coach Jackson generally tries to challenge his teams. Other than the two DCA games, Boyle’s stiffest competition should come the last week to week and a half of the regular season. As far as officiating, the more physicality that’s allowed, the more Boyle benefits. That was a key factor in their upset of DCA in district last year.

I agree with @24Rocksregarding Driver’s rim protection. It is a difference maker against a team like Lincoln. Likewise, I think Brown’s perimeter defense can be huge for Boyle. Also, although I don’t know the stats for tonight, Driver will generally dominate the boards against teams without significant size. I just think Boyle’s overall athleticism and length make for a tough matchup for Lincoln. I’m not saying Lincoln can’t beat Boyle, but I don’t think they should. They would need to shoot very well from deep in order to do so.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but who is the facilitator and was the win at Campbell County on Thursday his first game back? That win seems more impressive than the Mason win.

I still maintain that Boyle is double figures better than Lincoln (talent). I think Lincoln was fortunate to keep it that close, and that was probably aided by it being a home game for them. I don’t see Lincoln winnning either of their remaining 2 games. Just a really bad matchup for Lincoln.

I was shocked that they lost so this makes it at least somewhat more understandable. If they don’t get him back they won’t have much of a shot.

Who/when does DCA play next?

Sorry, I didn’t see that Thornton also had 14 for West.

Driver 18 & 10 and Tut 21 & 13. Sounds like good games by both bigs but West just didn’t get much help otherwise. I still think Boyle has more to work with and I would argue outside of a couple teams, maybe the more than the remainder. This West team won 3 games last year. To me it was going to be about how much Tut could do for them. While he did a lot better last night than his averages for the year. I think the reality for them is that they just don’t have enough talent to be much better than that 8-10 range in the region..

I expected Boyle would get this win at home tonight. Anyone have details or stats?

Boyd played well. That trio was tough.

I said that Boyle didn’t have a quality win yet and that I was looking forward to seeing how they fared in this one. I honestly didn’t think they’d win but I thought they would compete. I never thought they’d get obliterated like that, especially on their home floor. Never thought I’d see DCA double up Boyle. Just wow. Hats off to the DCA coaching staff. They have size and length and are using it to perfection. Remember, they actually had both of those kids for the last month of last season, along with Dut. So now I’m looking forward to the Lincoln/Boyle matchup. Those two will obviously be fighting for second place in the district.

Mercer is struggling to score this year. More so than I expected. Just not making shots.

Ashland is good, no doubt. But it’s a shocker to see that score from a Jackson coached team. Was anyone out for Lincoln?

Have yet to see Lincoln in person but I pretty well know what they have from watching last year. I’m not super confident in that pick but I do think Boyle (still) has better pieces overall. I think Boyle is somewhat of a matchup issue for Lincoln.

We will learn a lot about Boyle tomorrow night. They’re still looking for their first quality win and I am looking forward to seeing how they fare against DCA in that one. Regardless, I still think Boyle should make it out of district this year. Per the KHSAA, Lincoln lost to Ashland tonight 78-23 AT HOME!
