This time of the year is exciting to me, watching how the teams have matured, seeing who is bringing it, who is coming to play each week and who will wind up in the end. My prediction in the end .... any of these 4 teams could beat anyone else on any given day, there is not one special stand out this year and HHS is peaking at the right time

IMMHO, considering HHS is in a total rebuilding season, Coach Sphire has done amazing things with the team this year, the school, school spirit, rallying the school around the team, the team around itself and the team wanting to be there, be better, rebuild, the parents wanting to be there to back the BIRDS to rebuild. I have not seen School Spirit like this in YEARS. Is it going to take any Coach to turn a team around in less than one season, OF COURSE IT IS! PEOPLE WHERE ARE YOUR HEADS? If the NFL and College Teams can’t do it in a Years time ( when THEY HAND PICK THEIR TEAMS) Give Coach Sphire a Break! KUDOS TO COACH AND THE KIDS!! GO BIRDS!!!

It is not a laughable topic, however sometimes I find myself laughing to keep from crying at the youth and the situations today. None of these kids would want to spend a month in my house, or maybe I wouldn't want them in my house for a month, I am not a screamer or a hitter, but I hold a strong constitution, If I say I am going to hug you I will hug you, IF I say you are grounded, I defy you to even try to get out of the house, use the phone, watch the TV, etc. What I say I mean. IMMHO, one of the issues today is parents do not follow thru with "idle threats" Its no more than that, an Idle Threat, and the kids know it. Do Not Make a Punishment so difficult you cannot hold to....If you tell a Kid he/she cannot do something, then you can't either, choose your words wisely. If your child is grounded from Friday Night Football Game and you want to go, then the CHILD needs to sit next to you, no matter if the child is a Junior in High School, that is more punishment than them staying home not being seen. I rest my case.

What a sad state of affairs tonight in Ft. Thomas, realizing it takes more than a few months to build a winning team, you always hope for more, realizing you can only coach the talent you have. I have never experienced a miracle worker yet, but Coach Sphire is VERY Close! Go Birds!

Way too young! Many blessings to the young Men he coached and taught life lessons, may those young men take those life lessons and pay it forward, keeping his legacy alive, teaching the youth of today the values of the sport of football. Remain Gentleman on and off the field, that is the biggest Honor you can show a Coach. Remember what he instilled in you and always honor Coach. For you Coach, keep your whistle handy, the play book, keep sending in the signals, the Young Men will wait and look for them and your approval, Fly High! TOUCHDOWN!

Believe it or Not, he is WALKING for Senior Day .... someone backed down. IMO What is wrong with the Youth today, No One will Stand their Ground.

I have followed this topic on social media since it happened. There is a lot of things going on that are not mentioned here. The Superintendent of Schools told him to leave the Stadium. He was told by the coach that he needed to speak to the Superintendent for his Punishment, he was suspended 2 games, one which happens to fall on Senior Night. I stick with the Superintendent in suspension, he can return after two weeks, after a sit down with parents, coach and player. He starts off at a Level the coach sees fit. He needs to build his trust with the players and coach again. it’s Newton’s 3rd Law, Every Action has an Even and Opposite Reaction. This is what happens when you chose to do what you did, you forfeit the activities for 2 weeks.

I have no idea, in the article I read and researched about this, there was no mention of this was proven, only that this is what they mentioned. I did not post the whole article because there are still family members alive in Ft. Thomas and I did not want to rehash this entire memory for them, just asking how YOUR High School Football Stadium was Named.....?

Highlands Football Stadium named DAVID CECIL MEMORIAL STADIUM was named after an 11th Grade Student that played Football on a Friday night, back in the early 1950's (I've seen 1951 and 1952), and the next morning he was dead. His name was David Cecil. His helmet was returned to the manufacturer to be examined however; it was returned stating the helmet did not fail. After that it was ascertained that a cleat had pierced his neck right under the helmet. He was an outstanding standing student in his own rights playing other sports, his teachers, coaches and friends gathered deciding to name the Stadium after him when it was rebuilt. There is a Plaque across from the Trophy case and in front of the Stands about DAVID CECIL MEMORIAL STADIUM. I cannot seem to find what the name of the Stadium was before that, which was built in 1948. What is the Name of Your Stadium?

If you are coming to Highlands in Ft Thomas Ky there is 915 Grill right at the 5 way stop at Memorial Pwky and North Ft Thomas Ave, turn left and left again, its right there, quaint and great food (915 No. Ft Thomas Ave) Just a block or two from the High School and David Cecil Memorial Stadium, it does fill up quickly. The other end of town is Midway Cafe, 1017 S. Ft Thomas Ave, google for directions, good food and they fill up fast on a Friday Night. You will also find Ft. Thomas Pizza and Tavern and Grass Roots & Vine, those three restaurants are right across the street from the VA Hospital in Ft Thomas, if you know where that is.
