Shetlands don't beat Clydesdales particularly when the Shetlands make 19% of their shots.

Greenup coaching question
Since there seem to be numerous "national championship" competitions each year, which ones did GC win? Sometimes the process reminds one of the "Little Miss World" contest that was held annually at South Point, Ohio. Big time. Many in Greenup County see the cheerleaders as a pain in the posterior who, because of their graphic fundraising for their trips, etc., are holding back progress of other programs at the school. I will agree that cheerleading is the sacred cow in that part of the county.

Chuck Taylor, himself, can suit up for Ashland and bring along a couple of his buddies. The result will be the same. Russell with ease.

You must have been away from BGP for a couple of years. No one has been more vilified by posters than has Mayo. When you are a primetimer, which some may consider Gray to be, you must take the heat with the "kisses".

It sounds to me like she should have been hit with a technical foul or two. I have seen many others get one for doing less this year. maybe she gets "star" treatment since she was preordained as Miss Basketball by the media last spring.

I certainly agree with your post and with your last sentence in particular. I don't think, however, that we should dismiss it as the act of a "kid". I assume that she is 18. She is not a kid. She is responsible for her actions.

I would expect better behavior from the the preordained Miss Basketball.

Russell 56 Rowan Co. 38
It didn't sound to me like Rowan County played a very good game and that they made a serious mistake in trying to take the ball in close against Russell's three mountains. On the other hand, they didn't hit much out on the floor either. Of course, if the referees allowed a lot of physical play, it clearly helped Russell. Clydesdales will normally manhandle (womanhandle) Shetlands. All in all, Rowan County had a decent year. I congratulate them and commend them for their effort.

No surprise. the better team won. I'm also sure Russell is pleased with the outcome of the second game.

Greenup coaching question
Well, same district and playing on Wednesday night makes the puzzle easy to solve. With all the turmoil that perpetually surrounds Greenup County, would this be a wise move? I still say it should be offered to Sutton first. He has earned the chance. But, then, maybe he doesn't want it.

Greenup coaching question
You must have read a different newspaper than the DI. All we have gotten is the GC viewpoint. If KHSAA put pressure on GC to act, it doesn't change the fact that GC caused the turmoil for the team. All the "information" was available long prior to the start of practice in October. GC, by its inaction, caused the unfortunate timing. As for "court", please keep in mind that the actual legal system does not operate like a television show. Everything is not completed in an hour.

Greenup coaching question
I would think that Sutton deserves the opportunity. Being a part of the system and loyalty should count for something. Of course, that has never been a criteria at Greenup County. We should remember that the controversy is only about basketball. Can you imagine the absolute turmoil if it involved the cheerleaders?

Greenup coaching question
Oldrambler is right on target. If the Greenup County season was disrupted by all the controversy, keep in mind which bunch set the time table. It was the GC administration that chose to shoot its main bullet in mid-December. Hicks had nothing to do to cause that fiasco because, whatever sins Hicks allegedly committed (if any), they were done long, long before that. If you want to place a blame for the timing of the turmoil, it goes squarely on the GC "braintrust".

Indeed, so. It would get the investigative reporters off of Iraq and Bush since this would be a bigger story.

16th Region Draw
Digs are taken at and given by supporters of all schools. Only one acts like a mortal sin has been committed if its favorites are mentioned. I learned at an institute of higher learning (Hager) that, if one overreacts to something, he/she usually has a sense of guilt. Other than his family, "Matthew" has no bigger supporter in this area than scooterbob. Read my history of posts and you should be so convinced. His family is well aware of it although BIGDOG23 seems to be more interested in displaying animousity than ascertaining facts. I merely stated that I would like to have Matt wearing a different colored uniform. I also wish a few others were wearing different colors. Nothing wrong with that, is there?

Why Russell Repeats in the 16th
I'm getting into this rather late but I do have a knowledge of the region that extends past the limited period cited by most of you. Sydenstricker is the finest scorer to ever play at Russell. Marvin recruited him from Huntington and he didn't play his enire career at Russell. Not a material fact but still of interest. VanHoose plays in a completely different era. Basketball players are much more athletic than they were in the 1950s. Any top five is in the eyes of the beholder. However, both Sydenstricker and VanHoose must be on any list of Russell's best. Someone named Ashland's top five. It was about as authoritative as was the all-time AIT team picked a year or two ago by a rather biased group of recent Ashland supporters. Very poor. Ashland's all-time greats could never be limited to five or even ten. The list would have to include Larry Conley, Harold Sergent, George Carroll, Jerry Henderson, Earl Adkins (Ashland's only Mr. Basketball), and a goodly number of others who played when the tradition was really built (which was clearly before the school left Lexington Avenue). Skaggs was an outstanding basketball player. But, all in all, the best player to ever play in this area, without a doubt, was O.J. Mayo. I haven't seen his name mentioned in this thread but some facts should transcend personal biases, loyalties, and colored glasses.
