I agree that Owensboro’s defense isn’t Pikeville, but CAL’s offense isn’t St. X. This will be the best offense Owensboro has seen YTD & it’s not even close. This game will be won up front. Advantage CAL.

For Bullitt East, if they clean up the special teams & emphasize the inside zone running game on offense, I like their chances to bounce back.

I'm pretty positive Trinity is in the west this year as this is the year that district 3 should play district 5 with district 4 playing district 6.

Bingo! Kentucky is not big enough for 6 classes. It waters down the product come playoff time and sets up some terrible matchups in the regular season due to forced district play. Go back to 4 classes!

I don't think that's going out on a limb at all. Frederick Douglass and Madison Central might very well be the best 2 teams in the eastern part of the state in 6A with district 5 and Trinity being in the western part of the state this year. It all depends on RPI, but I think your semi-final teams are Frederick Douglass & Madison Central in the east with Trinity and either Manual or St. X in the west. For the west, it will just depend on who wins district 3 and who is runner-up and draws Trinity in the 2nd round.

If Ganaway is out, that puts an awful lot of pressure on the SO backup QB. CAL has a lot of talent in their secondary so that could help neutralize Kingston Dillard and render him ineffective if it's the backup QB trying to throw to him. That would lead Owensboro to rely more heavily on the run and I know the FR RB is extremely talented, but that's a big ask against a team like CAL.

Of note, this series will continue for at least 2 more years, which I think it great for both teams.

Class 5A #1 Owensboro heads to Louisville on Friday night to take on the class 3A #1 CAL Centurions. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. CAL currently leads the series 3-0 with last year's victory being a 35-0 shutout of the Red Devils and 2025 Mr. Football Evan Hampton. For the visiting Red Devils, after that early season loss to CAL, they went on to win their last 13 contests in route to a convincing 5A state title in Lexington. Last week, Owensboro picked right up where they left off last year with a 24-7 win over St. X. It was the Red Devils first win over the Tigers. This week, they are looking to turn the tables on their opponent once again but appear they will need to do so without starting QB Damarcus Ganaway who might be a game-time decision. If Ganaway is not able to go, the Red Devils will turn to SO QB Tyson Biggs who led them from the mid-2nd quarter on in their victory over St. X. Regardless of who the QB will be on Friday night, they will have multiple weapons at their disposal led by JR WR Kingston Dillard and FR RB Gavin Walker. On the defensive side of the ball, Owensboro is led by SR. LB and UK commit Ty Ashley and SR DL Kobe Pullom who will test the CAL OL. For the Centurions, they are looking to continue their dominance coming off their 41-0 running clock victory over the very formidable 1A power Pikeville. That win ran CAL's winning streak to a state leading 23 games. CAL is led by JR QB Jackson Burke who also has multiple weapons at his disposal. Those weapons include SR WR Louisville commit Ja'Hyde Brown and SR RB Indiana commit Garyon Hobbs. Of note, there is a possibility that SR WR Gaines Howard returns to the lineup this week. He has yet to play this season, after a great year last season, which saw him go for over 1,000 receiving yards. On defense, the Centurions are solid at all 3 levels, which all bolster D1 prospects (JR DL Kellan Hall, SR LB WKU commit Micah Newsome, as well SR DB Eric Jones, as well as Garyon Hobbs at safety). These two teams hold the longest current winning streaks in the state of KY. Will it be CAL who runs their streak to 24 or the visiting Red Devils who exact revenge and run their streak to 15?

Honestly, I’m not qualified to answer that. I’m way more familiar with Wright with his Purdue career. Only saw him play once in high school as I wasn’t really associated with the CAL program in his playing days. As for Ja’Hyde, he’s about as dynamic of a WR that I’ve seen in the Louisville area since Montrell Jones & that includes receivers like Vinny Anthony & James Quick. He’s very comparable to Wandale Robinson IMO. he's a prototypical slot WR & one that I believe has potential to play beyond just Saturdays.

For what it’s worth, they will not play again for this upcoming 2 year cycle. Contract was not renewed.

A couple of quick points 1). Pikeville will be fine. They will contend for a 1A title. They have some decent talent, but CAL is just that much better 2). The CAL defense played extremely well. Heading into the 4th quarter, Pikeville had 14 yards of total offense. 3). Ja’Hyde Brown was back to his normal self. He had 11 receptions for 180 yards & 4 TDs….in just one half of football 4). And the final takeaway….the people & administration at Pikeville were very gracious & hospitable. I really enjoyed the atmosphere there.

I think overall, the rankings look good. You have #1, then I think 2-6 are actually who will battle it out to see who loses to Trinity at Kroger Field in December. No offense to #7 on down, but those are simply for bragging rights to say your team is ranked 🤷‍♂️

I'm not a Trinity fan, but I will pull for any KY team that plays an out of state team. I think Trinity competes well in this one. It'll be close, but I'll take the Rocks by a field goal.
