I agree in that I’m not reading into it too much. Central did play at least 5 players I know of that contribute regularly on Friday nights & 2 of those actually start. Honestly if I were Central, I would do the same thing. CAL played 1 kid who plays special teams & sees a little action in the FB package on offense & 1 kid who plays kickoff. Everyone else were JV only kids who only see running clock minutes on Fridays. It was good for the CAL JV kids b/c it was a challenge & the coaches could see kids who are capable of stepping up. Also don’t forget, CAL varsity plays a freshman, sophomores like Jackson Burke & Kellan Hall & juniors like JaHyde Brown so a lot of young talent on varsity for CAL.

I hadn’t ever really seen him play so I decided to watch a little bit of the replays vs CovCath & Ryle. Overall, he’s a pretty decent athlete. I don’t think he’s a 1 or 3 tech so no interior DL. If he played DL, I could see him as a DE (glorified tackle) in a 3-4 defense as a 4i tech. If he plays offense, yes he’s an IOL.

Absolutely & one thing that also helps that is they’re not handcuffed by a conference / district which requires them to play certain teams!

Cathedral is a tough team to figure out, it’s a question of which team shows up. They beat a really bad Ben Davis team (1-6 & were just blown out 43-0 to Carmel) by just one score to start the year & were blown out by Brownsburg in what many thought would be a much more competitive game. Granted, Brownsburg is the #1 team in Indiana & the defending 6A champs. However, as of late, it appears they are on track with victories over a tough Center Grove team & Trotwood-Madison, who owns a win this year over Springfield (Trinitys annual scrimmage opponent). I think this game is competitive, but in the end, Cathedral win by 2 TDs.

Central gets a pick 6 with about 5 minutes to go to break a 6-6 tie, then has a goal line stand with about 1:30 to go to seal the victory.

CAL travels to Central this Friday for a Class 3A district 3 showdown. For the last few years, the winner of this contest has been the winner of the district. Central comes into the game at 2-4 with wins over Butler & Shawnee. Although their 4 losses have been to fairly strong teams, none of those games have been extremely competitive. Central is led on offense by JR QB Philip Baker who has passed for 652 yards & 4 TDs this season. As a unit, Central averages just under 200 yards of offense per game. On defense, which is typically there strong point of most Central teams, they are led by SR LB Brian Marshall who averages just under 11 tackles per game. For the visiting 7-0 Centurions, they are led by dynamic, play making JR WR JaHyde Brown who has 946 yards & 14 TDS on the season. SO QB Jackson Burke took over the primary signal caller duties a few weeks back & has not disappointed. He has thrown for 1389 yards & 20 TDS on the season with 0 INTs. The CAL offense averages exactly 400 yards per game. Defensively, CAL is led by JR LB Micah Newsome at 11 tackles per game. Can Central turn back the calendar & knock off CAL at home as they did last October? Or does CAL keep the train rolling towards a December date at Kroger Field?

I also find it crazy that only 7 of the 32 class 6A teams have a record above .500 currently!

Anything is possible, but I don’t see that getting back to the way it was any time soon. There is a pretty big talent gap that even good coaching won’t be able to bridge. The total combined scores of the CAL vs DeSales JV & V games this week was 116-7.

That is what they mean. CAL used to have three different campuses (2 in KY and 1 in IN). They shut down the campus off of Dixie Hwy in Louisville (K-8) and all those kids moved to the English Station campus (Pre-K to 12). CAL still has the campus in Indiana, which is part of the IHSAA, but does not have a football team.

No way Cincy St X scores 34 points. They’ve failed to score more than 28 in a game all year & some of their games have been against teams less capable than Trinity.

Private schools in Tennessee are still part of the TSSAA, they just have separate divisions for them. They have three classes for private schools and that works for them. It wouldn't work in KY. The reason you can't do that in KY is we aren't nearly as big as TN. They have way more private school teams in TN. If KY tried that, we'd have about 20 schools total and no real way to separate into two divisions so it would have to be one. We talked about being unfair now, could you imagine Holy Cross (Louisville or Covington) having to play against Trinity or St. X? Indiana doesn't separate out private schools and you see maybe one private school win any of they six classess in any given year. Why is that the case in IN and not in KY? I'm typically on the side of the kids b/c interscholastic sports are supposed to be about the kids, but I do agree that you do have to have some guidelines and rules and they must be administered fairly and consistently. If you don't, it becomes pure chaos and things get out of control and you don't know where to draw the line. I hope things work out for these two young men.

If Bardstown somehow beats LexCath, it would be the 2nd round. If not & both win out, it’s projected to be the 3rd round currently.

CAL visits DeSales on Friday for a renewal of a former district rival series. The all time series stands at 14-14. This is the first meeting since 2021 for these district rivals with DeSales move back to 3A. DeSales won the first seven games of the series with CAL taking the three most recent contests. For DeSales, who stand at 3-3 on the season, they are a pass heavy team with about 80% of their offense coming through the air. The Colts average close to 33 points per game. They are led by SR QB Cameron Bischoff. His main target is SR WR Kingston Merritt who has accounted for roughly 50% of the Colts receiving yardage through the air. For the Centurions, who come into the contest at 6-0, they look to continue their momentum fresh off a hard fought win against traditional 5A power Bowling Green. CAL is led by SO QB Jackson Burke. His main target is dynamic playmaker JR WR Ja’Hyde Brown who is arguably the best WR in the state. On defense, CAL is led by SO, 5 star DE Kellan Hall & JR LB Micah Newsome. Can DeSales exploit the CAL secondary & keep their high powered offense rolling to a victory? Does CAL start district play, with what many believe will be a string of multiple clock running victories?
