The main issue, to me, is program stability. Shelby County has had three different coaches in the past five years. You just can’t expect to stay competitive in a good all-around region when that’s going on. If I was a high school basketball player, I would want out as well if that were happening. When you look at how many higher profile guys have left the program over the past several years, you have to start thinking there’s an issue going on behind the scenes.

And that’s how I discovered that there is, in fact, a running clock in high school basketball.

What has happened to John Hardin? Perennial regional championship contender for about a decade to not making it past the second round in 3 straight seasons... hopefully they can find an established coach that can bring some energy back into the program.

With Powell, this is a 20+ point win for North. Without him, and without their other players, this could be a pretty good game. I’ll still take the Mustangs in Goshen, but I don’t expect it to be a sizable margin.

39-33 South at the half. McKnight and Vail combined for just 4 total points in the first half. Morrison has 10 for South.

GC still has a few years before they become competitive on the gridiron, but they’re coming out of the gates with a purpose on the hardwood. Kudos to the Warhawks on their fantastic start this season.

The 8th is crazy this year. Any of Collins, North, South, Oldham County, Spencer, Woodford could realistically win it. But with the way North has been playing, I’d say I’d be the LEAST shocked to see them in the Sweet 16.

What the? 42-8 run? Three players on the court for the last minute? 109-99? Is this high school basketball or is this NBA all star weekend?

Scott County lost 10 of their top 11 scorers from last year; 7 to graduation and 3 to Great Crossing. The only returning player for Scott County that saw meaningful varsity minutes was Terrin Hamilton. The other 3 non graduating varsity players from last year— Barber, Tucker and McKenzie— all went to Great Crossing. Throw the graduation losses in with the retirement of Coach Hicks and I think Scott County would’ve already dropped off a bit even without the new school.

A little combination of both. Collins had a slow start and Shelby came out of the gates blazing. Eventually everyone calmed down and Collins started dominating but in the fourth quarter they started going for unsuccessful alley oops and whatnot and Shelby hit a bunch of threes to get the score down to where it was. Collins led by as many as 22.

Nelson County went from State Champs to being in jeopardy of losing their program in just over 20 years. I hope they find someone who can bring some energy back to the program.

Woodford just made a statement to the rest of the 8th Region.

Does/did your team do anything special for Thursday practices if they were lucky enough to be playing in the state semifinals? The one season we played in semi-state when I was in high school, we had a Thursday walkthrough, open to the public, along with catered Dunkin’ Donuts for fans. After that we had a nice little “mini” thanksgiving dinner in the cafeteria before we were told to “go enjoy the REAL thanksgiving with our families”. It was quite the spectacle and I’m curious of any other traditions that schools might have.

Beechwood could get to Heinz Field faster than they could get to Mayfield. Hopefully they can get some kind of hotel arrangements set up.
