Thanksgiving Practices

Featured Replies

Does/did your team do anything special for Thursday practices if they were lucky enough to be playing in the state semifinals?

The one season we played in semi-state when I was in high school, we had a Thursday walkthrough, open to the public, along with catered Dunkin’ Donuts for fans. After that we had a nice little “mini” thanksgiving dinner in the cafeteria before we were told to “go enjoy the REAL thanksgiving with our families”. It was quite the spectacle and I’m curious of any other traditions that schools might have.

Trinity has donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate for the fans as the team does walk throughs. Just left there. They had a few hundred people come out.

Frederick Douglass had their first Thanksgiving Day practice this morning from 8:00-9:30 this morning.

Boyle has invited back any former play to watch practice and they have donuts, coffee and hot chocolate. They also have a former player talk to the team before practice. Chuck has done this for a few years now. Not sure how long but I know it has been a few years.

Bowling Green has all the old players show up, who can, corner bakery cookies and hit chocolate. The two times I got to be apart of it were some of the most memorable parts of my highschool football career.

It is interesting reading these traditions of including past players. For the years I was a player at Highlands and later a parent of a Highlands player, this never happened.

Male serves breakfast to the boys and their families then invites alumni to practice. Great times!

Thanksgiving morning is a great day in the Beechwood community. The team practices and then everyone gathers for a breakfast with the team. It is one of my favorite days of the year.

The only thing better than Thanksgiving practice is December practice!! Good luck to all teams tonight. Safe travels (I'm sure that some are already on the road).
