Highlands/Lexington Catholic Updates
Why are we giving the Rec's a 5 yd. cushion ?

5A #6 Highlands at 3A #5 Lexington Catholic
Veneman speed only comes along every so often. They gotta use what they have. Bland or not, if it's not broke, leave it alone.

5A #6 Highlands at 3A #5 Lexington Catholic
Using a T.E. and another receiver w/ 8-10 yd. outs, plus other short stuff across the middle, is exactly how you suck the defensive secondary in. Combined with a physical ground game, which would allow for the deep balls to be thrown. Ahlfield & Roberts yes, the speed and ability is there.

5A #1 Covington Catholic vs. 1A #1 Beechwood Predictions
Cov. Cath. domination. B.W. Coaches, please don't run your QB 10+ times in this game, as he'll get killed against this very tough defense. Think about the long-term "team goal" for the season. Is it really worth the risk ?

Belfry 42 Newport Central Catholic 12
Young team, new Coach. Gee, no wonder the O-Line and D-Line are having issues. It takes time ! Goodness, it went from play-off time.... to, is it time to panic. The answer is no. Panic about what. Play-offs never should have been mentioned after seeing some 7 v. 7 games this summer. Again, it takes time. Get behind the boy's and the Coaches and enjoy the building experience. Good golly miss molly.

Small private school vs. a large county school. Give him a break, he'll get them there. Brutal observation.

Can Cooper stay in the game with Cov Cath?
Not a very good one. If your safety's have to make too many tackles, Katy bar the door. Mercy rule.

Highlands 36 Cooper 7
To say that #7 is a mini Vick is a stretch. He's small, and throws some ill-advised passes across his body. They have a nice sized T.E. that they never used all night. Highlands was OK at times running & passing. It's a process in the works. They got the job done. Their secondary will get torched if they don't get their DB's looking back and locating the ball on passes. It was a nice win for HHS.

Newport Central Catholic all time rushing leader
During the 2000 season, in 15 games, Everson had 367 rushes for 2154 yds and 27 TD's. Smith in 15 games, attempted 238 passes, completed 104 for 1549 yds. and 15 TD's. In the 2001 season, in 14 games Everson had 271 rushes and 1616 yds. and 23 TD's. Smith in 15 games had 280 attempts, completed 43 for 2190 yds. and 25 TD's. This is when the ball started rolling. Fantastic job guy's.

And to think that that young man isn't even in the NCC Hall of Fame. Sad, very sad.

AAU Football state wide just like basketball? Who supports it?
Why try to fix something that's not broken ? But then; what about the H.S. rivalries to brag about on BGP. Whom/what will the "old timers" complain about. It will absolutely throw century old traditions right out the window. Heck, maybe it is a good idea ! Not.

Newport Central Catholic all time rushing leader
Steve Everson was the finest RB in NKY during his tenure at NCC. Unfortunately, he was run to death by the Coaching staff. His speed and toughness was unquestioned by all that saw him play. Contrary to some comments in this thread, NCC "did" in fact throw the ball very well. Not only did they have an outstanding running game, but their passing game wasn't shabby either. So much so that the long standing receiving record at NCC was broken during this tenure. This is the group of boy's that started all the Play-Off success, and eventually led to a State title. They were very impressive to watch, I must say.

Who cares who's #1 in August. It's the final game that counts. Always has... always will. Ramble on.

2018 NKY Youth Football
Given the amount of practice time all four teams have had, I'm not really surprised. I just hope that the other coaches {RD, SP, Bandits, and S.K.} "seriously" shuffled their kids in, and out of the game, as running-up a score isn't really that important, as this early stage of the season.

Highlands 2018
He is a great man, that really cares about the kids, "all kids", not just the athletes. Honestly, Matt wasn't a bad guy. His intentions were good, I just think Mr. Nieporte {sp} is a better fit, for that position. I wish them both, much success in the future.

2018 NKY Youth Football
Honestly, what's the rush ? In general, these "kids" maybe had 6 practices, at best. How many of these teams/coaches have had any real time to evaluate, slot, and establish any kind of generic game-plan. Heck, at best they should play flag football or touch like the 7 on 7 format {helmets only} used in high school. What are they really trying to prove anyway. It's preseason ..... right.

Highlands 2018
First of all, 7 on 7 isn't really a true test of what a team will do when the season starts. It gives the coaches a chance to see some kids in a decent environment. On some of the scores, the DB's weren't even looking for the ball, and got burnt. At other times, the rec's just made some great catches. The underneath stuff is very correctable. However, the over the top stuff should concern them. For the most part the kids are athletic. Football is a mental game, they just need to get their mind & body in-tune with one another. Great footwork is imperative for a corner & safety. It will get better. Of that, I'm confident.

Highlands 2018
Apparently, Anderson didn't bring their 1's and still looked very good, N.C.C. looked very much improved {I was impressed} from last years squad, and Highlands has some "very serious" work to do in their def. secondary. Ouch, not pretty.

Highlands 2018
As I said in prior posts, Mr. Buten needs time to get his legs, and mind together. There's absolutely no reason to rush the kid. I'm confident that the Varsity squad is OK at the RB position, which will allow Joe the time he needs to get mind & body in unison. It's not as easy as people think coming off an injury to the knee's, ankles, hips, back, etc. Again, the sky is the limit with this kid. No need to rush him, or anybody else that's in his shoes. Things always seem to work-out just fine. Patience truly is a great virtue.

Could Girls Season Move to Spring?
It's really kinda' sad what has happened to boy's & girls soccer because of how much emphasis is put on playing club ball in the "off-season". When exactly is the "off-season" ? These kids are playing year-round, and never really get a break, absent an injury. Then they hear {during the injury down-time}, you better suck-it-up cause Mom & I are paying a fortune for your club fee's, training, travel, games, etc. Unfortunately, this is the mindset of sports today. Grab the golden ring, at any cost. Like it, or not. How was this allowed to happen ? Hey, that's a topic for another discussion. Anyway, try and have fun boy's and girl's. Good luck this season, whichever that may be.

Could Girls Season Move to Spring?
It doesn't matter if it's Div. 1,2,3 to NAIA schools, these kids {boy's & girl's} have to travel everywhere to play & be seen. That's just the reality of Soccer. Staying close to home won't get it. If the player really has the talent, and want's to play in College, they travel ! Been there, done it. West Coast, East Coast, and everywhere in between. It's tedious, and very expensive. But hey, that's life.. right.

Could Girls Season Move to Spring?
So they're {refs} getting it from all sides. Like I said, can't imagine why the KHSAA is having a hard time getting refs. It's really too bad. The refs try so hard to do a good job!
-
Could Girls Season Move to Spring?
Gee, I can't imagine why there might be a shortage of refs. Having been to a gazillion soccer games over the last 20+ yrs. and seeing how parents, and various other spectator's treat the refs during a game, it makes sense to me way they might be having a tough time getting people to subject themselves {for very little monetary compensation} to that crazy nonsense. Just sayin.

How many programs still do two-a-days?
I really don't think practice schedules have much to do with poor tackling habits. Over the years there have been so many theories about proper tackling, I truly believe that has led to poor tackling, in general. Simply look at rugby, and their tackling techniques. They wear basically nothing, and knock the crap out of each other, with limited injuries. One major reason is the use of Tackling Wheels. My understanding is that they've used these devices for years, with great success. Gone are the days of spending an hour(s) in practice performing man-in-the-middle, Oklahoma, etc. drills. Why kill the kids in practice, when you really need them tackling in a game. Common sense really. Cuts down on silly injuries, and keeps them fresh for games. Hey, just my opinion.

Highlands 2018
No joke, just fact. No coaching staff is preparing for a game that's 3/4 of the way through their schedule. Also, your boy's shouldn't be thinking about HHS. Given the fact that they are so talented, and ready to dismantle every team that lines-up against them. Heck, I bet the Highlands kids are already shaking in their boots, just thinking about a game that's in the middle of October. Honestly, I think you missed my point completely about team evaluation, and game preparation, pure and simple.
