The All “A” Classic Basketball State Tournament is moving to Owensboro after being held at the Corbin Arena last year due to renovations to Eastern Kentucky University’s Alumni Coliseum. The tournament will also be held one week earlier than in previous years. Several basketball coaches told me they had no idea about this. There has been no announcement on social media besides what I just posted on 10thRegion.com. It was quietly posted to the All A website. Here is the press release from the All “A” Classic and City of Owensboro: OWENSBORO, KY – Visit Owensboro and the Kentucky All “A” Classic announced that Owensboro will host the 2025 Kentucky All “A” Classic Basketball Championships for both boys and girls. This prestigious tournament will take place January 22-26, 2025, at the historic Owensboro Sportscenter, bringing 32 of the state’s top small school teams to compete for the championship title. The tournament will kick off on Wednesday, January 22, with the girls’ first-round games, beginning at 8:30 AM and continuing throughout the day. On Thursday, January 23, the boys’ tournament will commence with another full day of first-round matchups starting at 8:30 AM. The competition will continue into the weekend, with the quarterfinals being held on Friday, semifinals on Saturday, and both championship games taking place on Sunday, January 26. I believe the NFHS gave a three-year period to phase in the rule about uniforms (white jerseys with white letters, etc.). Schools were informed three to four years ago about this rule being implemented. That’s the only major change I know of with uniforms recently.

It really started with Tarter at the middle school level. I think the program stabilized under Mike Sizemore (now at Clay County). He was there for five years, and Bracken was second place in the district for the first time ever in 2016. They won their first playoff game the next year. Following a bad 2019, Simon Clouse (now at Nicholas) took over and did a good job. Steven Tarter was the middle school coach. That is why they have been so successful lately, is getting kids to buy in and accept football as a sport in Bracken County. The middle school and elementary level has done a great job developing players. From 2003-2014: 20 Wins, 105 Losses From 2015-2024: 53 Wins, 50 Losses

The 2024 WGM Holiday Classic (I think) will be held from December 27 to 30 on Friday-Monday. Teams playing that I know of: - Lexington Catholic - George Rogers Clark - Newport - Lyon County Any others?

I think RPI is fine. We know it's not going to be perfect. But it's mostly correct as far as rankings at the end of the season. Sure, there are a few outliers. But it does what it's supposed to do and makes sure the top teams are in regional finals and state finals.

Bracken County had a great opening drive to go up 7-0 to start the game. Beechwood returned the kickoff for a touchdown. Their plan was to kick every ball out of bounds and take the penalty, but they missed on it. It killed the momentum for them. Bracken gained some of it back after keeping Beechwood to a field goal, making it 10-7. When Beechwood got the ball back, Bracken intercepted a pass. Bracken had trouble on offense again, and Beechwood got the ball with 1:00 min left until halftime, and they scored in 45 seconds It was 17-7 at the half. In the second half Bracken got worn down and was very undisciplined. I figured it would be close at the half and they would fall off in the second half. Pretty much all their starters played both sides all night. The low point was getting a 51 yard pass to make it first and goal late in the fourth down 31-7, then the very next play throwing an interception in the end zone at first and goal. Daulton Tarter was grinding out every yard and got them two first downs that drive. Bracken was definitely overmatched on speed. So they should have run the ball with Tarter who in my opinion the best running back on the field, eat the clock, and keep it out of Beechwood’s hands.
