They made the announcement the other day.

Good hire. Coach Tarter has coached for the Bracken County Youth Football League for 9 years and has also served on the BCYFL board. He sounds like someone who is well-vested in the community and will hopefully be committed to hanging around at Bracken County.

It may just be me, but from the outside it seems like the Bracken County High School fans have been reluctant to embrace their football coaching hires in years past. Here's hoping they'll support Coach Tarter and his staff and they can build on what they have in Brooksville.

This hire makes sense and with his knowledge of the student = athletes coming up, this could be an established program from top to bottom if he can get the right coaches in to help! Good Luck Coach Tarter

We are two years into this hire and after a 6-5 1st year under Coach Tarter, the Polar Bears go 8-2 in 2024 and host Leslie County in the first round of the 2A playoffs.  Obviously, a really sound program is being established on the hill with an emphasis on the fundamentals.

Plus, the best school nick name in the state.

Jr. Dalton Tarter (son?), 2nd in state in rushing, 2nd in state in scoring (30TDs), 3rd in state with 5 interceptions and 1st with 4 pick sixes, and has forced 3 fumbles.  This young man is truly a baller!
Polar Bears will not be an easy out.  I think they will travel to Ft. Mitchell for a 3rd round redux.

It really started with Tarter at the middle school level. I think the program stabilized under Mike Sizemore (now at Clay County). He was there for five years, and Bracken was second place in the district for the first time ever in 2016. They won their first playoff game the next year.  Following a bad 2019, Simon Clouse (now at Nicholas) took over and did a good job. Steven Tarter was the middle school coach.  That is why they have been so successful lately, is getting kids to buy in and accept football as a sport in Bracken County.  The middle school and elementary level has done a great job developing players.

From 2003-2014: 20 Wins, 105 Losses

From 2015-2024: 53 Wins, 50 Losses

It has definitely shown to be a great hire by Bracken County. IMO he should have been the coach of the year in that district, for the job he has done with that program and the team this year.

I have gotten to know Coach Tarter personally over the last couple of years and he is a first class coach! I am glad to see he is having success as a Head Coach. His son is a great football player as well.
