Yes he did. And yes he will be. He moved up from frosh after the season and played in the playoff game against doss.. I think he had about 4 tackles.. Not a bad showing for a freshman getting his first live action against some stud athletes..

FYI, not my son.... Have you seen him play, or just looking at a stat page? It's just an observation from the many games I've watched. If early season stats are always right, I guess that means my Reds are a better team than the Cubs... World Series, here we come!!!

To clarify, Yes I'm saying Ethan is a better player with higher potential than the others mentioned. Most others are GREAT JV players getting some Varsity reps.. Ethan is an everyday varsity player and impressive at that... As a TRUE freshman. Kid is an ELITE talent.

The best Sophomore is actually a Frosh... Ethan Kavanaugh, Highlands...

Highlands: In addition to Huddleston, I would mention the top up and comers from the Frosh class (soph to be) as Zach Lewin DL, Mason Schwalbach LB/RB, Jack Delgrange DB/WR, Collin Hollingsworth QB. These and a handful of others will have success in JV and a couple will battle for varsity time in the near future.

Highlands- Brycen Huddleston. If you haven't heard it already. Kid is a beast and has the genetics and work ethic to truly be special. He has played LB and WR in the past, but I think safety might be his best position.

The amazing thing about this win is 6 of the 9 playing for Highlands against St. X were 8th graders... With a dominating JV team and this group, the tradition Baioni is building there isn't falling off any time soon.

Frosh team lost 3 last year... Lost by a touchdown to Trinity. Lost in a nightmare rain storm by 1 at Cov Cath on a missed extra point. Lost to Cooper in a poor performance shocker (HHS would win that game 9 out of 10 times). A very nice season for the team in building for the future despite season ending injury losses with their starting RB/LB and biggest lineman.

He is much bigger than he was in Middle School.

I think he's questioning the future quarterbacks... Considering the fact one of the players mentioned now attends Ryle. Hunter transferred shortly after football season. Ryle picked up a heck of an athlete.

I hear what you are saying, but the truth is, every school has people who are both good and bad at representing a program. The older and richer the tradition, the more you will have of each. In Highlands case, the fans love to pound their chest just as much as the jealous like to jump on them during a down time. Both can go a bit overboard at times... I think it goes both ways. However, a school with a fan base of over 100 years of winning and generations of alum will just have a louder voice than a school that has been around 10 or 20 years with high and low seasons. I don't think it's Highlands specific.

any surprises from the conner/HHS scrimmage a couple days ago? How did Kavanaugh look?

That's like the Bengal fans saying it's "win the super bowl or bust"... I think most would settle for any playoff success.. SK are more Bengals than they are Patriots...

Any updates/comments on HHS scrimmage against Conner? I know it's just a scrimmage, but did anything stand out other than what was expected?

Take a look at the new thread of X's schedule... that is what you call brutal.. wow!

The only change it needs is to go back to 4 classes.. Too many trophies are being handed out now watering down the fields... And we wonder why we're raising a generation of entitlement.

SK has lost 51 times since 2004.. How many times a year do you play Trinity???

This thread has taken a bit of a turn. Initial question was brutal or brilliant. Brutal would be the elite teams already mentioned. Period. They aren't able to compete with those teams though. Brilliant would be finding some teams that can "push" them but won't POUND them. I would suggest Sycamore, Scott Co, LaSalle, Princeton, Lakota. Teams of that level. CCH did this last year with Sycamore and I think that's a brilliant way to play a high level team to improve.

Are you saying SK is in talks with all of these teams every year and they are ducking them? Who else could they try to schedule? In addition to those I listed, how about BG, Scott Co, Colrain, Sycamore, LaSalle, Brentwood TN, Cathedral,? I could go on and on with elite teams that the "powerhouses" in KY, OH, and IN schedule. If you can't get someone to accept from this type of competition, I say find another administrator to build your schedule who can gain the respect of these elite programs. Again, if SK wants to be viewed as a step down from the elite programs, keep doing the same, but to be viewed as a elite (I think they want to be seen that way), you have to do better than the current year in and year out schedule.

Neither... I would call it average. For a team that wants to be considered a powerhouse 6A team, that's far from a "powerhouse" schedule. Brutal for 6A would be multiple games with Moeller, Trinity, X (louisville or Cincinnati), Male, Elder, and teams of that caliber. A scrimmage is nice, but it's a scrimmage. Brutal means taking on the top of your class. Far from it here.

How do the top 3 Highlands, Cov Cath, Beechwood compare to the rest of the state? Where should they stand/rank overall in KY?

Sission was the guy I've been thinking about this whole time... Seems to have soft hands in hoops and looks to like contact on the hardwood and the field.

This has taken the usual turn. I started this thread hoping to learn from people who know the system, the rational behind not valuing a TE within the system (feeder,Frosh,JV,and Varsity) and it has turned into the predictable banter. So much for just trying to learn something on here.

What roster are you referring to? Please share the data if you have one for the upcoming season...
