How many coaches have won titles in Ironton? How many have won titles at Highlands. Not a very good comparison. I'll compare them to Alabama. If Nick leaves and Alabama wins a title, goes to the loses in the playoffs and has a very bad year, is the Tradition of Alabama over??? Some Coaches make a team successful (Like when Coach Cal was at UMass).. Other tradition rich programs draw great coaches (Alabama, Ohio State, Kentucky or Kansas Basketball). It doesn't mean these teams dominate every year, but the tradition of the program is bigger than the coach, not the other way around. Highlands views it's history and trends in 5,10,25 year increments, not 1 or 2... Trust me, the bird fans have been disappointed the past couple years, but the sky is not falling.. and as another post described, the cycle of these great athletes coming back to raise their families is the very thing that makes it a traditional powerhouse. People from Erlanger or Union aren't dying to move back after college and raise their kids there (no knock on those communities), but ft. Thomas is a generational community that is unique in society today. This has it's downside for Ft. Thomas. For example, try moving there when you're not from there (it can be tough), but it's the very reason why the tradition continues.

Several young birds held their own on D against Cincinnati's top talent. Lewin, Dierig, delgrange, and Haigis all sophomores made several plays defensively. Throw in an injured Huddleston and schwalbach and the future is looks bright.

What do the birds hope to accomplish/learn when they battle the bombers on Friday night? Coming off a year of disappointment and questions, What would a successful scrimmage look like for highlands.

Yes, it is a down year for Cooper, so expectations are the birds should dominate them. On a bigger point, fans are looking for "changes" such as guys going both ways and stronger defensive game plan. no matter who they are playing, the first game will tell a lot.

I think most fans are just holding their breath until the Cooper game... That night will answer a lot of questions... it's maybe the biggest game of coach W's career.

highlands freshman team dominated sk last year with 2 shutout wins. I think sk had 5 total first downs. How did SK do against Ryle and cov Cath?

SK, Highlands, Ryle, and Cov Cath are all loaded in that class.. it's going to make for some exciting football from the top dogs..

Will Hunter Ahfeld get any reps at QB as a sophomore? Hated to see him leave HHS. Great kid and athlete.

All I said was they will be fine in nky and lose to the traditional powers. Do you have a reason to believe that won't be the case this year? If so, I'd love to hear it... why will things be different this fall?

Not just trinity and male. I'm referring to their inability to beat ANY big school power on either side of the river in our area... please give me the resume of large school powers they have ever beat.

Ryle will be what they have been.. good vs nky teams, dominated by 6A powerhouses. Seems like a broken record conversation for both Ryle and sk.
