I think the overall idea is correct, but to present it as some grand conspiracy to fatten up the masses is silly. The general public is by and large quite ignorant of what they should and should not be putting in their body. However, as someone with a science background I can tell you with certainty that you do not need a science background to understand what is good and bad for you. Especially when nearly every single person is literally walking around with a computer in their pocket that possesses infinite knowledge with just a few key strokes. Patient education is one of the most important aspects of healthcare providers, but that doesn't mean the individual shouldn't take personal responsibility when they can. Dr. Google is often the enemy of healthcare providers, but for basic stuff like this it can be a huge tool for people if they're willing to put in the effort.

I can't imagine what kind of discussion can come of it. It's not like Maher will try to defend his use of it seeing as he already apologized and admitted he was wrong. I'm sure he won't go groveling for absolution from Ice Cube either though. How can it be much more than, "You shouldn't have said that." "You're right it was wrong of me to say that."? The end.

From what I understand it's more of the image that Trump (and as a result the United States) is not willing to play ball with other countries in finding a solution. This climate accord wasn't so much a solution itself, rather a starting point in coming up with something. Climate change is undoubtedly a very real concern the world is facing. What is up for debate is what can realistically be done to help, and most even on the left agree that this accord itself was not going to make any significant impact but it was at the very least a starting point.

The logic that says opioids shouldn't be prescribed because some people abuse them is the same logic that says guns should be banned because people commit crimes with them. When used correctly, opioids are a very useful and effective tool at significantly improving the quality of life of many patients. I don't have a solution to the opioid overdose epidemic, but I can say that stopping their prescription when clinically indicated is not the solution.

My little guy's name is Booker too! Yours is the only other dog I've ever known of with that name. We prided ourselves on coming up with something unique. To answer the question though I would say Booker T and Books are the only derivatives of his actual name that I use. I also call him pup or puppy a lot so a lot of plays on that. I have to make long drives (5+ hours) fairly regularly and for that reason my vote definitely goes to the slow left lane drivers. On a side note, how are salespeople calling still considered a problem with today's technology? If you don't know the number just don't answer, and if it's something that matters they'll leave a voicemail and you can call them right back.

I feel like the fact that most of the attention of my generation (I'm 27 so I'm a member of the much maligned millennials) has shifted toward microagressions rather than outright racism has to indicate at least a step in the right direction. For example I wouldn't think twice about seeing a mixed race married couple together, but I did get called out for the so called microaggression of expressing surprise that a black friend of mine was a big country music fan. In hindsight, I can look at that and see it was a form of racism that led me to make that seemingly innocuous assumption, but the fact that the little things can even be brought up now must mean that the proverbial "bigger fish to fry" have already been fried.

I can't fairly comment on your first point since I am not yet a parent. I don't see why this show would be any different than any other show with mature content though. It's up to the parents to make sure their kids only have access to age appropriate things. Easier said than done I'm sure, but I do know Netflix has parental controls available. As to the second point, I think that was a very deliberate choice by the writer and not merely a plot device. Unfortunately in many schools it is reality that you have unqualified people trying to serve the role of mental health professional when they have no business doing it. I don't have a solution to that problem. I'm just saying it wasn't an unfair portrayal.

Hahaha sell her on the state schools. And to be fair I'll have a pretty nice career to show for it too, so just make sure she doesn't major in like art history or something and it'll be worth it in the long run. It's an investment in yourself right? Or at least that's what I tell myself to keep from crying.

Haha that really was one of the benefits of this show airing on Netflix. They could write dialogue true to how teenagers would actually communicate. Gotta disagree on the Dawson's Creek comparison though. The kept the melodrama to a minimum.

Just got through binging this over this weekend. I hesitate to say I really enjoyed it because it was very, very dark at times, but it was incredible television. It was indeed very graphic, but as far as the argument that it glorifies suicide I can't see that at all. In my opinion it was quite the opposite. The scene where her parents find her lifeless body in the bathtub is absolutely heart wrenching. That scene alone completely shatters any notion of glorifying suicide to me.

I've watched What Would You Do too many times to fall into that trap. I'd assume there's hidden cameras watching me from multiple angles and act accordingly.

The way I've understood this debate is that the issue most people have with specialization is not that a kid chooses to play one sport, but rather that the adults/parents/coaches in his or her life pressure the kid to play one sport. I'd find it hard to believe that anybody would have an issue with a kid "specializing" if that kid really just prefers one sport over another and chooses to focus his or her time on it.

My super boring but super honest answer is my student loan debt paid off.

Does anyone with a knowledge of law know what kind of sentences those charges tend to carry if convicted? They seem a little light given the prolonged nature of the abuse and the fact that they were in a position of power.

I still hope you're right. Gonna be real conflicted trying to root for this kid and I'm really disappointed that I have to try to.
