  1. I assume that means you didn't like it? I've read mixed reviews on this one. As a horror fan I'm sure I'll still see it regardless. I had hoped it would have had more box office success if for no other reason than to maybe get studios to take a chance on more unconventional horror movies.
  2. Trump has always had a sort of stream of consciousness manner of speaking. I actually believe his explanation on this one.
  3. There are a number of factors that result in the so called Amish anomaly with respect to autism rates. The first being that it is just out right false that Amish people don't vaccinate at all. While the vaccination rates are lower than the general population, there is still about 60% of the Amish population that received vaccinations. Another factor does have to do with as you said autism testing, but more specifically autism diagnosis. The guidelines for what falls into the autism spectrum has been broadened significantly. I don't claim to be an expert on Amish culture, but in general due to their particular way of life and cultural norms many mild forms of autism could very easily be missed or not seen as particularly unusual and therefore not brought to the attention of a mental health professional. And thirdly, there is a very strong genetic component of autism. Since the Amish community is a very closed community with a long history of intermarriage it leads to certain genetic anomalies that are a double edged sword. Certain diseases with genetic components such as autism that are not prevalent in their particular gene pool will remain at lower rates than the general population. However, other genetic diseases that are prevalent in their gene pool will show up at much higher rates than the general population, such as the metabolic disorder Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) which is about about 1 in 100 Amish births vs 1 in 180,000 worldwide.
  4. It's not about forcing anyone to do anything. It's about understanding the risk that choosing not to vaccinate poses on all of society, not just the individual making the choice. And it's also about having an understanding of the scientific evidence showing the benefit of vaccination vs the risk. And although there are certain small risks, autism is not one in any way shape or form.
  5. It was slow, but slow with purpose. They've had episodes before that seemed like it was entirely filler. Last night certainly drove the plot forward significantly. I enjoyed the new group. I feel they're the most believable group we've encountered since Woodbury. Also, the reuniting of Daryl and Carol was one of the most beautiful scenes we've seen in a while. With only 5 original characters left, you always have to cherish the scenes they're in together.
  6. Do stand up specials count as albums? If so Louis C.K. - Hilarious
  7. There are a number of people who can't receive vaccines for a variety of health reasons. There are also those too young to be vaccinated. And there are also a certain number of people for whom vaccines are ineffective or whose levels have unknowingly diminished beyond the point of being effective. These people should be safe when the herd immunity that we've had for several decades is in tact, but all of these people's lives are put at risk by those willfully choosing not to vaccinate. Also, I reiterate there is zero link between vaccines and autism.
  8. Why do you think the USA is going "down the tubes"? This isn't me starting an argument with you, it's genuine curiosity. Some derivation of that phrase is often used by people on both sides of the political spectrum, but it's a very abstract concept so I always like to ask what that means to them.
  9. I think this is one of the more respectful, and certainly one of the best moderated political discussion boards I've ever seen. Sure I like reading the high school sports forums to cure a little bit of home sickness now that I live out of town, but when I decided to come back to BGP this was the board I was most excited to be able to post on again.
  10. All of those things can be explained by non vaccine related reasons that I'm happy to share if you're interested, but I'm not going to force it if you're not. That's your doctor's responsibility. I do however have to make this vitally important point. I am all for the preservation of personal liberties. However, when one chooses not to vaccinate they are crossing the line of personal liberty and making a decision that could kill an innocent person who did not make that choice. One person's personal freedom stops where another person's begins.
  11. Once you get into moral equivalence you're in dangerous territory since the whole concept is inherently flawed. However even if it was a sound argument, I think the bar should be set a little higher than Hillary Clinton.
  12. Black and as strong as possible. If intravenously was an option, I'd do it.
  13. A few points in response to this. 1. The mercury levels in thimerosal (the preservative formerly in some vaccines) were so low there was no chance for any mercury related harm. 2. Out of an over abundance of caution thimerosal has not been used in vaccines since 2001. 3. MMR was not one of the vaccines that ever contained thimerosal or any other mercury containing preservative to begin with.
  14. I hope that it won't go anywhere. That is Trump's MO to overwhelm and distract the media and I'm hopeful that that is the case here as well. But still Trump making even passing comments giving any legitimacy this anti-vaccer movement combined with another big name celebrity coming out in support in such a big way could help to create a disastrous outcome.
  15. I did read it. I also read about it from several other sources. I tried to pick the most neutral. Why do you ask?
  16. Fair enough. Admittedly, I'm not familiar with that station, so I wasn't aware of the impact they had on attracting live music in the area. That is certainly something that would be a shame to miss out on.
  17. The music isn't dead. In fact quite the opposite. We are in a golden age of music (although more accurately it's a golden age of technology providing us access to music). Between satellite radio, internet streaming services, and the internet in general with blogs and discussion boards dedicated to every kind of niche music no matter how esoteric, it has never been easier to be "kept informed" while also getting your fix of "underground cuts of yesteryear". AM/FM radio is ultimately going the way or print journalism, and that's a good thing. There's better and easier options out there now.
  18. Really?! I had no idea I was so spoiled at my A10 school. Learn something new every day.
  19. At first I thought I saw at least a few other types of cans mixed in, but upon further inspection they were just the NFL Miami Dolphins version Bud Light cans. You have to respect his brand loyalty.
  20. Is sufficient beer money included in the Rupp/Judd package? That detail significantly impacts my decision.
  21. If you're so physically outmatched that you lose 42-0, my guess is they wouldn't have fared too well in a brawl either.
  22. To be fair, it wasn't a letter from some inconsequential person. It was the wife of the greatest civil rights leader in our country. Considering the biggest critique of Sessions is his alleged racial improprieties, I'd say Ms. King's testimony would be relevant if it hadn't been a violation of senate rules.
  23. Of course it would be a much bigger deal if another president had said it. However, we've heard nothing but over the top statements from him for the last 18 months, so the general public has by and large become desensitized to it. I am far from being Trumps biggest supporter but I give him credit for how he and his team have handled the public and the media. He floods the news cycle with so much absurdity that we can't possibly remain angry, confused, fixated (insert whatever adjective best describes your feelings toward him) about any one thing for too long. If you have the ego to handle receiving the constant barrage of criticism (which it's safe to say he does) then it's a brilliant strategy.
