  1. Sophomore Gage Mabrey had a very good summer. Very versatile and skilled player. Sam Conley was injured for summer ball but Spencer County was still competitive against some very good teams and that was because of Gage. He is a very good shooter, passer, and rebounds well. I think Spencer will be better than last year because of the improvement of the three juniors and what Gage brings to the table. The other starting spot will go to 6 ft 4 junior Jason Nichols or junior guard Jackson Jagger's. Spencer County will need to develop a bench and not have an injury to one of their top 3 players to make some noise. Their top 4 should play college ball at some level. I would be surprised if they don't.
  2. My top 7: Collins South Oldham Spencer County North Oldham Oldham County Anderson County Simon Kenton
  3. Woodford County's best player just transferred and there is no way Spencer County will be the sixth best team. Top 3 for them as long as there are no injuries.
  4. How did I forget Trevor?! Trevor Hardin plays on the Louisville Prospects AAU team with four of Spencer County kids (Conley, Whitlock,Hornback, Jagger's). Got to watch him all summer. He's an athletic freak with a motor. There are some sweet videos of Sam posterizing people on Twitter. Trevor may be the best jumper in Kentucky. Pogo sticks for legs. Trevor gets up higher than Sam but Sam has a quicker first step. Athlete's for sure.
  5. Roberts is a very good three point shooter but let's not get carried away here. He is young and small. He will eventually no doubt be a top player in the region but to mention him with these other players is quite a bit of a reach. His defense is lacking at best. Until he gets older and stronger he will be physically dominated by older kids. That's what I have seen this summer. As far as McKnight being the best athlete in the region I would have to disagree with that. M Knight actually does his damage through being stronger and having longer arms than everyone else while just having a natural instinct to rebound. I watched them in an all star practice a few weeks ago and I would say Vail is a better athlete. McKnight is not an explosive jumper. I still think McKnight is the best all around player in the region though. As far as the most athletic in the region it is Sam Conley by a long shot. That's how he is able to dominate and posterize people at 6 ft 3. Lucas Hornback of Spencer County is right there with him. Pure athleticism goes to those two.
  6. I would say individual rankings are based upon watching these kids play in the summer against top competition. If your playing high level AAU and are successful then you are a pretty good player and should be ranked higher accordingly. I don't like rankings for younger players but by the time they are juniors or seniors it can be pretty accurate. You will always have some kids who don't get seen as much not be ranked as high as they should but overall the rankings are legit in my eyes. I've followed the 2021 class in Kentucky for the past 11 years and have seen pretty much most of the top players play and I would say most of the rankings services are pretty accurate. Some players on the list are overrated or underrated but overall not far off.
  7. If your going by kids that will play college at some level then Spencer County has four kids in the starting lineup that should play college ball somewhere. Injuries would be the only thing that will sidetrack that.
  8. Who is a better offensive player? Powell or Morrison. Since I prefer players that play defense I lean toward McKnight and Conley for best players in the 8th.
  9. In evaluating players I look at who can play both ends. Some players can control a game without having great stats. Point guards and defensive stoppers can do this.
  10. Spencer County played Madisonville North Hopkins today in summer league. Spencer County lost by two. The interesting thing is that Madisonville had all their players and Spencer County played without their best player Sam Conley. Spencer County may surprise some people this year. They have underclassmen that have really developed to go along with the the starters that are returning. They will be better than last year provided no one gets hurt.
  11. Hope they get new goals too. Those rims need to be replaced. Trevor Hardin might have something to do with that.
  12. Yes Spencer County needs to upgrade that point guard spot. Lol.
  13. Hardin was with Henry County last week in summer league at Spencer County. Also, Dallas Roberts has transferred from North Oldham from what I heard last week. That will hurt them.
  14. To be successful a coach has to have talent. The next two years I would say that Collins and Spencer County will be taking the regional spots for that district. I don't think Woodford County is going to be very successful in the near future. I could be wrong.
  15. I agree with you. He's losing 8 seniors. Wins will be scarce. Probably doesn't want to deal with the losses coming down the pipe for the next several years. I don't blame him.
  16. Great write up. I would say South Oldham and Spencer are interchangeable. Spencer County beat them twice this year starting three sophomores. Spencer has a very good freshman that should be plugged into the starting lineup as a sophomore.
  17. Woodford may not be going to regional tournament for at least the next several years. Collins and Spencer are pretty good.
  18. Here are Spencer County stats from the game: Sam Conley 23 pts, 7 rbs, 5 assist, 1 steal Jake Whitlock 12 pts, 3 rbs, 7 assist, 4 steals Jackson Cole 13 pts, 6 rbs, 3 assist, 1 steal Lucas Hornback 9 pts, 5 rbs, 1 assist Gage Mabrey 11 pts, 1 rb, 1 assist Jacob Seawright 7 pts, 5 assist Jackson Cole would get player of the game with the two huge rebounds at the end!
  19. Haven't seen any yet. I know Morrison is one of the best shooters I've seen in person. Pretty much everyone for Spencer County played well.
  20. Yes. He shoots over 70%. First time with the pressure. Big win! Especially against a coach like Simpson. I have tremendous respect for that dude!
  21. Spencer has a huge road block to overcome Friday Night. Horrible matchup for them. I do know they will leave everything on the floor. They had to dig out of two holes tonight and never gave up.
  22. Hated that for Whitlock considering he played an incredible game running the team and the defensive effort. Shooting free throws in that pressure situation is a little different. He's only a sophomore. Good experience. Thankfully it didn't cost them.
