  1. Good analysis of all the games. Should be a great 8th Region tourney! The best place to watch a high school regional in this state is at Henry County.
  2. The South Oldham coaches were not smiling one bit when they saw the draw, you are correct. The Dragons played outstanding against Owen County earlier this season and still were unable to come away with the win. It's asking a lot for them to duplicate that effort in this 8th Region Tournament game. That's why I say South Oldham has to make at least 15 three-pointers to win. The inside game of Owen County is outstanding, the perimeter game of South Oldham is outstanding. My opinion is this: South Oldham needs to front Carson Williams and eliminate backside help, force Owen County into making perfect lobs inside. You can't leave any of the other Owen County players open, they are too good. I have seen double and triple teams of Williams, none are effective. The best defense I saw on him this season was a simple fronting, daring lobs. Yes, it opens up offensive rebounds, but that is why I think South Oldham needs to really up the speed of this game and get into an all-out uptempo contest. South Oldham has more quickness than Owen County and the Dragons are the best three-point shooting team I have seen in a while. Their interior defense is acceptable, and fronting Williams might be the best way to defend instead of leaving someone open for 15 footers.
  3. Just think if Oldham County had expanded its buildings in 1989 and remained one school. Instead South Oldham was built, and years later North Oldham was established. If Oldham County High School had remained one gigantic campus, I believe the Colonels sports teams would have won multiple state titles in football and boys basketball. Some of the other sports would have also been right there for state titles.
  4. I was there. And unless South Oldham can make at least 15 three-pointers in this game, I'm afraid their season will be coming to an end. Should be a fun game!
  5. They actually did not have problems in the game against Murray. Murray just hit some unbelievable shots late to win it. South Oldham is a completely different type of team than Murray and playing slow-down is not suited to their interests. If you go uptempo on Owen County, it forces Carson Williams to have to defend more drives to the basket, more chances at drawing fouls on him. South Oldham has a couple of players who attack the rim very well. The more possessions, the more times Carson and the other big kid for Owen County might have to slide over and try to defend the basket. Just an opinion. My prediction is Owen County 71, South Oldham 63.
  6. The CovCath reserves will get plenty of time in this one. CovCath 84, Newport 51. Unless Mullins, Covington, and Hollis unexpectedly are reinstated. If those three are back, I say the score is: CovCath 92, Newport 47.
  7. South Oldham was 11 of 30 against Owen County from threes in first meeting and still lost. That's why I say 15 three-pointers at least this Wednesday if South Oldham is to somehow pull off the upset.
  8. South Oldham will need to make at least 15 three-pointers to have a chance at beating Owen County. They have the shooters to do it as they have proven many times this season. My concern is that Carson Williams will have 45 points and 20 rebounds in that game. South Oldham's best chance will be forcing Owen County into a fast-paced game on Henry County's floor. I think more possessions could mean possible foul trouble for Carson. Great matchup as two teams with different styles go at it in the first round. Any game times yet?
  9. The Simon Kenton/Collins game should be a very good one. Walton vs. Anderson County is a even game as well. Henry County will have the home floor, but Oldham County is going to be very difficult to beat if they play defense like they did against South Oldham on Friday night.
  10. Excellent draw for Oldham County. Not such a good draw for South Oldham. Oldham County should be in the finals vs. Owen County. I had hoped South Oldham could stay away from Owen County, but I had a bad feeling. Too much Carson Williams in that one for South Oldham.
  11. I think Owen County wins this one 76-49. Too much size for the Runnin' Rebels in this contest.
  12. BTW: Your Bellarmine team lost to something called Indiana Southern I saw. lol And Heritage is in Boone County.
  13. If Oldham County stays out of Owen County's bracket, the Colonels will be in the 8th Region championship game. The way they switched off the screens last night was outstanding defense against the three-point shooters of South Oldham. I don't believe either Anderson County or Simon Kenton will be able to beat Oldham County. As for South Oldham, all they can hope is to somehow not be in a first round game with Owen County. The Dragons have had a great season. Last night the revenge factor was motivation for Oldham County and so was the fact the Colonels were going for their 6th straight 29th District championship. I believe Owen County wins the 8th Region going away, with Oldham County and Simon Kenton the two dark horses.
  14. I predicted Oldham County to win, but I never thought by this margin. The revenge factor might have been part of it, but the Colonels defense was magnificent. South Oldham lives by the three-pointer and getting the most out of its motion offense. Oldham County challenged every shot it seemed like with a switching defense. South Oldham could still make a run in the 8th Region. They need to avoid Owen County in the first round. Oldham County is in a good spot, especially if they draw opposite of Owen County in the bracket. A great week awaits at Henry County for the 8th Region Tournament.
  15. My battery is almost finished. And I want to beat the traffic!
  16. 69-57 Oldham County with less than 2 minutes left. Colonels about to claim the 29th District title and go into the 8th Region Tournament with a lot of momentum. Well-deserved win for Oldham County. South Oldham competed, just could not get past the defensive strategy of Oldham County tonight.
  17. Oldham County has led by as many as 19 points and has been the aggressor on defense. Ball movement by Oldham is exceptional tonight. South Oldham will have to face a district winner it appears. Great crowd tonight!
  18. Oldham County blazing from floor tonight at well over 50 %. South Oldham unable to get off uncontested three-pointers, Colonels switching off and challenging every outside shot. Great coaching move by Oldham County. Little chance South Oldham pulls this out in the final quarter if the Colonels play "D" like that for another 8 minutes.
  19. Oldham County leads after 3 quarters, 54-42. Oldham defense shutting down the Dragon three-point shooting tonight.
  20. From talking with Simon Kenton fans, it sounds like they had to adjust to some younger players on the varsity but they have some talent. I like Walton's team, but I've been waiting all season for Simon Kenton to make a run and it looks like that might be now, at the best time to do so.
  21. Hard to predict this game. Anderson is great one night, not so good the next. Collins knows how to win in the post season and seems to be getting better. I think I'm going with the post season experience and know-how to win in big tourney games. I say Collins 52, Anderson County 49.
  22. No idea on ticket prices. Seats might be a problem as Hollins, Chevington, and Wiggins will not be able to sit on the Newport bench and will take up seats reserved for spectators.
  23. I am assuming there will be a different officiating crew than the one that did Walton/Grant the other night. lol
