  1. I have no interest in starting a thread about such individuals or Davenport. I have been around the business long enough to realize he will never be a Division I head coach. All a Division I president/chancellor has to do is call up the three individuals names mentioned and that will be all they need to eliminate him from their search. I can assure you most coaches would have NEVER allowed two of these players in their programs as transfers. But that is for a college thread. This is a high school thread about Mr. Basketball. If you want to discuss it, start a thread and I will gather more information from my friends up north who have a great deal of Davenport background.
  2. So it is a problem with the players away from basketball. That is really unfortunate.
  3. Scott Davenport at Bellarmine. Just three players sum up his reputation, and why he will never, ever coach in Division I. Let me count them, and this comes from people at the small-college level: Dzaflo Larkai Brandon Clifford Jeremy Kindle Interesting reading on these three and their pre and post Bellarmine careers. Thank you.
  4. Then who leaked word of the "offer" to this forum and the press up there in N.Ky.? Was it the player, his family or the former coaches?
  5. I saw the video this afternoon. I can assure everyone this official will have a nice carpet call from the proper administrators. No excuse for this to have been called after seeing it. It would appear instead of using common sense, an official decided to make himself part of the game. No place for this in sports.
  6. Ok, I will accept your word on it. Where did the information about him being offered come from to this forum?
  7. Not that you bother reading my posts carefully, but I have friends who know the NKU coaches. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THEM OTHER THAN WHAT THEY SAY. I don't need to earn any "cred" as you phrased it, I coached many years in college and high school. You act as if you are some expert when most of your points are wrong and laughable. My ignore feature will be used on you. Thank you.
  8. Then answer this: How did such information get on this forum last year? And why did the new coaching staff not follow through with the old staff's offer?
  9. So you are saying he turned it down? Is that what you are saying?
  10. You could be correct about the margin. I think North has some very competitive players and some size that might cause problems for Oldham County. Oldham County has these letdowns because they play 9-10 guys, makes it hard to get a rhythm offensively at times. I think they will shorten the rotation tonight.
  11. Name calling is for those who can't rationally discuss subjects. Calm down.
  12. Here you go. http://bluegrasspreps.com/ky-boys-basketball/ben-weyer-newcath-300331.html
  13. The indisputable fact is this: He is going to play at Division II, not Division I. Congratulations. That was the point. If you have issues with what their own coaches say, including the head coach who I am told is a grad of the same high school as this player, tell them about it. I saw him play. I coached at a mid-major Division I school years ago. I said he is a fine high school player, but his skill set is not suited for success in Division I. Sorry if you can not handle an objective opinion.
  14. More reason it is emotional ranting. Tell that to the NKU coaching staff, and have them take down the thread from last March on this site if that is the case. I could care less. I was responding to someone else in the first place.
  15. You are totally wrong. He accepted the offer from the former coaching staff, there is even a thread in this forum from last spring about it. The new staff rescinded said offer. That comes from their new coaches. I think they know more than you and your emotional rants/attachments.
  16. We know there are three jerseys going unused tonight. Maybe Wiggins has been dismissed as well since it appears to be a trend.
  17. They are calling this the battle of the pride and glory tonight. The pride (North Oldham) is trying to put a regular season behind them and get into the regional by shocking rival Oldham County. Oldham County is trying to earn the glory of representing the 8th Region at the Sweet 16 later this season. I have watched both many times, I say this one goes to Oldham County, 67-51. It will be hard fought and fun to watch, but Oldham has too many players this season.
  18. Weyer committed to NKU last year, but the new coaching staff pulled his scholarship offer this summer because his skill set does not translate into a rotation player in Division I. You might check your facts.
  19. Laughable. NKU while in Division II owned Bellarmine if you bother looking at the al-time series record. I posted it to you yesterday but the technical problems erased it. My buddies who talk with the NKU coaches also said Pitino and Cronin play Bellarmine in exhibitions because of their relationship with Bellarmine's coach, not because it is competitive. The Bellarmine coach used to be an assistant at U of L, but he can not get a Division I head coaching job even though he has repeatedly tried. Bellarmine from what I saw has lost to the likes of Midwestern State (!?), Drury (!?), Findlay, Parkside (!?), and you are saying they are going to beat Division I schools? As a former assistant coach in Division I, it sounds to me as if you have an axe to grind with NKU. I have no dog in the fight, but there is a huge difference in Division I athletes and those who sign out of high school with D-2. As I said yesterday, NAIA rosters have more athletes than Division II rosters in may cases. Many of the players we recruited did not qualify academically for NCAA play and had to go to the NAIA, an they were much better than the kids who signed with D-2. Now a transfer from D-1 who goes to D-2, yes, they might make a difference in talent levels. But not straight from high school.
  20. Very unfortunate. It sounds like a lot of problems exist within the Newport basketball program. Never a good time to have this go one, but really problematic at tournament time.
  21. This sounds like Newport has a number of problems. I would guess the superintendent will be looking closely at what is going on in the program. Since Newport is without three starters, I'm going to predict history repeats itself from exactly 40 years ago in the district between these two schools. Bellevue 51, Newport 47.
  22. If that description is correct, the officials might have some explaining to do tomorrow. It is a good thing it did not change the outcome of the game, or this would have really been an issue!
  23. I am not going to get into a ref-bashing session on this one, but I am thinking one of the mentioned officials might have overreacted a tad if this is accurate. My concern as a former coach is how they knew .8 seconds were left. I know there was no instant replay, so the question would be which ref saw the clock and how did he arrive at .8?
  24. I was told the officials are to go directly to their locker rooms once the buzzer sounds and not to engage coaches, players, or game personnel. That comes from an very experienced official, though I am sure you are correct in the rules book interp.
