  1. I never did care for Charlie's Angels. It sounds like they are taking your advice regarding staying home. Don't blame them a bit.
  2. Looks like the 6th Region is way down this year. Never thought DeSales would advance this far.
  3. Is Holmes open? I keep hearing people talking about who the next coach is going to be there.
  4. Think a high school Larry Bird. That's Carson Williams.
  5. Brutal all the way around. Hard to blame you for not going back to pay those kinds of prices for a high school regional tournament. I would say some principals and athletics directors in the 9th Region are getting some extra dollar bills in their wallets for allowing such an operation.
  6. If those prices quoted by an earlier poster are accurate for concessions and parking, I can't blame the fans who stay away from the 9th Region. It sounds like greed has replaced the reason for having high school sports, the kids. If you work at said arena, your posts are slanted and biased toward having to work there, so I can't blame you for defending it. But it sounds like a Mickey Mouse operation thanks to the combined efforts of the 9th Region leaders and the arena's dumb rules. Just an 8th Region guy's opinion.
  7. Between 5,000 and 5,700 seats. Owen County's entire population will be here tonight. South Oldham will have a good following, but from what I have heard this morning some of the Dragon fans might not show up in force because they doubt they can defeat Owen County. I hope they reconsider an support South Oldham tonight!
  8. Sounds like what a good student says years after learning from his teacher!
  9. I have not been in this arena so I can't say, but from Clyde and several other creditable posters on this forum I get a feeling the atmosphere is anything but great. It sounds very suspect at best. I texted one of my buddies who lives in N.Ky. and asked about it and he said the enthusiasm is only evident during the boys championship game. He also said the first round boys games are rarely nothing but less than 25% of the arena filled. That's not a good atmosphere in my opinion. But let's move on to the games!
  10. I guess the 9th Region leaders better hope and pray two schools with bad followings do not make the championship game for the boys one day. That would be bad to see 900 fans in a 10,000 seat arena for a championship game. It sounds like that is already the case for the girls. Very sad that money rules the minds and souls of those running the 9th Region.
  11. Great analysis, ColonelMike! Your network does a great job for the entire 8th Region! Keep up the great work as always!
  12. I would guess video boards and state of the art sound systems would not have appealed to me as a player 43 years ago. I just wanted to win. But today, who knows with a number of the kids. I enjoyed playing in a packed gym. If I had played in front of thousands of empty seats (I did in college, and take it from me, it's no fun) as a high schooler, I might have said who cares about a video board. Of course there was no such a contraption when I played except at old Riverfront Stadium and that big thing out in center field!
  13. I'm thinking of the kids and coaches, not the fans. Those girls tonight who played in front of 500 people in a 10,000 seat place probably could care less about people who stood in line. I was just thinking about them as much as anything.
  14. Sounds like Holmes and Conner need to host. Cooper was not around when I was a 9th Region guy 43 years ago, so I am not sure how big their gym is. But I know Holmes and Conner are big enough for a great atmosphere with a packed gym. I feel badly for the players today who are playing in front of thousands of empty seats up there.
  15. Brutal for those who attend church services on Sunday that let out at noon. No Saturday night games?
  16. Thank goodness we have Henry County High School down here in the 8th Region, so none of that is an issue. I had heard the 9th Region had issues with its tournament, but I had no idea how much!
  17. Why do the boys play on Sundays? Do they play Sunday night?
  18. No, UK's women play at Memorial unless seating is needed in Rupp. I know for a fact Title IX would not play a role in the site. It sounds like a contract with the arena is making this call for the girls to play in from of almost 10,000 empty seats. That is absurd if they know it going in as you pointed out from last year's first round.
  19. Very sad to make those girls play in a 10,000 seat arena in that case. Some principals and athletics directors are not doing a very good job of using common sense and doing what's right for the girls involved.
  20. The three items bolded above should convince the money-hungry principals and athletics directors to consider moving games back to the high schools. The finances mentioned in this thread are not earth shattering if all schools share $65,000. If the attendance tonight as estimated was 500, why do they not play the girls at a high school where there is some atmosphere? I don't get this.
  21. Is it true less than 500 fans showed up tonight for the 9th Region girls in that arena?
  22. Wow. I did not know that either. But given UofL's recent history (Pitino, Powell, dorm parties) maybe they're afraid of what the media will say!
  23. I agree with everything you said 100%. What a shame that a bunch of high school administrators sell out their kids for money. If that arena really holds near 10,000 fans and only 1,000 show up, that is an injustice to the players and parents. I can't even imagine it. I'm like you, send it all back to Holmes and Conner. It really burns me inside to know some of these high school principals and athletics directors sell out for a few bucks. You are right, it does not make it better, just makes cents. You will enjoy the atmosphere at Henry County this week. They do not ban signs, posters, or fans from cheering. They even allow the media to do live updates during games because attendance is no problem at all!
  24. My question was did they try to ban laptops from media members several years ago because they thought it might hurt attendance. Or is that a misinformed thread here on BGP.
  25. You seem to be in the know about the situation. Is it true they attempted to ban the media from using laptops in the arena because they thought live updates would hurt attendance? There is a thread in this forum from years ago that implies it.
