  1. Or at halftime honor Mullins, Covington, and Hollis for lettering this season for Newport. I assume those three young men will receive letters for playing varsity?
  2. The only suspense in this one is how much, 30, 40, 50 or more.
  3. I think your suggestions are valid. But I think Highlands should be placed in the 37th and moved to the 10th Region. They are in Campbell County and if/when Silver Grove and/or Calvary Christian leaves the KHSAA, Highlands location in Ft. Thomas would make an ideal fit. I would say move Silver Grove back to the 9th Region and compete in the 36th. From what I have heard over the years their enrollment is next to nothing and fielding teams is a problem. Just a thought.
  4. Think of the third quarter in this game as a chance to run some sets, just like it was practice except against opposing players. South Oldham did not press at all, they simply ran their offense and Trimble County was unable to stop them from scoring. Not a whole bunch you can do as a coach because you have to try and get your rotation players some work in the second half.
  5. I agree with you 100%. The problem is, as I see it, this game was over as Walton had possession. No opposing players are even in the area, and it is obvious said official did indeed want to be part of the game. That's why I brought up the common sense part of officiating. By the book, he did have the right to make the call. But given the limitations of everything done by the book, he could have called a another technical foul because the Walton coach went nuts on the sideline. It is funny he called a T on the player for nothing, but allowed the coach to visibly be upset at the call. Go figure!
  6. You have to use these games as a chance to run plays for your players. The 4th quarter is time for the subs to play, not the 3rd.
  7. I was at Trimble County last night and the official in question was brought up. It appears he will not be penalized because it was a judgment call and "by the book" he was correct. But the assigner of officials is aware of the awkward situation created by the call given the game was .8 from ending and the supposed spiking of the ball had nothing to do with the outcome of the game. My concern is the official made himself part of the game and did not use proper common sense judgment. By the book, I suppose he has the right. But I still ask how did they know .8 seconds was on the clock when the video shows the said official watching the player and having no possible way to see the time. The KHSAA should have their assigner of officials have a nice chat before next season on using common sense in a late game situation like the one with Walton and Grant County as it could have caused an outcome to be changed by a blatant overreaction from an official to a celebration.
  8. Is someone supposed to submit these results to the KHSAA Scoreboard? It has no score.
  9. Here is the quarter by quarter for tonight. North Oldham 10 8 17 13 - 48 Oldham County 13 14 13 25 - 65
  10. I guess what happened exactly 40 years ago when these two schools met in the district did not repeat itself tonight. Congratulations to Newport, I thought Bellevue might win this one with all Newport has been going thru and having the home floor.
  11. Correction to Friday's winner: They avoid playing Owen County the first round of the regional. Could be in same bracket. The loser could face Owen County depending on the draw for the 8th Region.
  12. Oldham scored 15 straight points after North cut it to 43-41. Great intensity by both teams, both well coached. Oldham County vs. South Oldham will mean a packed gym at Trimble on Friday. The winner will avoid being in Owen County's bracket in the 8th Region if Owen win their district. A lot at stake on Friday when the Dragons and the Colonels get together for this great rivalry!
  13. Final from the 29th District. Oldham County to meet South Oldham for the championship Friday at Trimble County. Oldham County now 21-8.
  14. Oldham County leads at halftime 27-18. North Oldham did not score until almost halfway through the second quarter but ended half on a 8-6 run. Oldham County defense too much in this one. I would guess North Oldham is shooting less than 30% from the floor.
  15. Colonels playing outstanding defense in this one. North Oldham struggling from the field.
  16. Oldham County on 8-0 run and leads North Oldham 21-10 in second quarter with 5:00 left. My battery is almost gone, so updates might be scarce!
  17. Oldham County up 21-10 over North Oldham up here at Trimble. Oldham on an 8-0 run.
  18. I said 81-61 in the prediction thread earlier. Almost had it right! I did not think Gallatin could stay with Owen County, too much size.
  19. Ridder, Ahrens, Groschen, Webber, and Batsche will all be smiling tonight if Bellevue pulls this out. I wonder if they will have a 40th anniversary party of their own great victory over Newport. That was a fine Bellevue team back in 1976. Let's see if the Tigers can repeat history tonight!
  20. Inside joke from the last time something happened at Gallatin. He understands.
  21. I agree with you. I don't think it will be a close game either way. But of course I'm "Clueless" according to all o above. lol.
  22. I don't believe Gallatin County can win, but they can compete. Owen County's physicality will cause Gallatin a number of problems. I say the score will be Owen County 81, Gallatin County 61. Now that might be a tad too many points if Gallatin decides to play a slower tempo to keep the possessions to a minimum.
  23. According to earlier posts, this is not a basketball issue. If Bellevue wins, they deserve it. I would not point to any of Newport's problems as the reason. I do agree I can not recall three starters being dismissed from a team in one season for many years. This is why I think Bellevue pulls off the upset tonight, that and being at home. But let us not take away from their win, if they do, by bringing up who is no longer on Newport's team. One of the things that separates average and good teams is the ability to overcome adversity. Newport, it appears, did not overcome a great deal of adversity of its own doing.
