Carson Williams will be playing college and later pro basketball one day, also possibly a McDonald's All-American next month, while others only connection to McDonald's will be serving french fries.

So can Carson Williams, who by the way, is about to be Mr. Basketball.

Or Larry Johnson, all 6-foot-6 of him, led UNLV to the national championship and became an NBA All-Star. Or Wes Unseld from Seneca High School in Louisville, who became an NBA All-Star at center standing just over 6-6.

Tell that to Charles Barkley, all 6-foot-5 of him at Leeds (Ala.) High School, Auburn, and then the NBA. Or Paul Millsap, all 6-6 of him, All-American at La. Tech and NBA All-Star.

Finally, back to the topic, Carson Williams will win Mr. Basketball in my opinion. When is it announced?

I agree. And as I tried to tell a couple of these posters earlier, NKU did not sign Williams and Faulkner to sit the bench. It sounds like most of the current players on the NKU roster will be playing at other schools next season as they bring in a class of recruits and transfers more suited to play against Division I competition. I looked at their record and saw they are approaching 20 losses, so you can guess the coaches are looking forward to upgrading their talent. But it's impossible to logically discuss matters with several of these posters who are emotionally involved with their favorites.

I have no idea who McDonald is. It's funny the current NKU coaches apparently don't share your optimistic appraisal of the current players. Williams is better than anyone on their roster from what I understand, as is Faulkner. Those guys did not sign with NKU to sit the bench nor did the other high school players they signed or the Alabama transfer. We shall see.

Quickness issues, limited range, agility. He jumps well from what I saw, but it appears Division I coaches backed off because he is a small forward and his game does not translate into many minutes in Division I. NKU's former coaching staff offered him a year ago I was told, but the new staff quickly rescinded that offer because of those limitations. There are other players on NKU's current roster who will also be looking for new schools next year I was told because of the influx of incoming talent. They have some very good high school players signed, plus a transfer from Alabama who will start right away that came with the head coach. They are also looking at several other players, I assume junior college guys, to come in for next season.

I agree with you. But NKU is playing Division I basketball, something Bellarmine is not. That was my point. I do not know anything about the players being out of shape as you referenced, but my buddies who speak with their coaches say they expect an entirely new starting five next season. That bodes well for NKU as it says they are bringing in immediate impact players. I will disagree with you on one point after looking at NKU's schedule this season, they won road games at Detroit and Oakland, and played Xavier to a closer than I would expect score. It appears NKU is well coached, and once he gets his own players in, they will be very competitive in a league which only has one name team (Valpo) to go against. Detroit hasn't been a big factor nationally since Dick Vitale was head coach in the 1970s. Oakland, Wright State, the Wisconsin schools are very beatable for NKU once Carson Williams, Mason Faulkner and other good recruits arrive.

I saw Weyer play and said he is a fine player, just not Division I. That is not bashing. IT IS A FACT! He is going to Bellarmine! I know nothing about either Bellarmine or NKU, just that one is small-college program, and the other competes at the Division I level. Please try reading before you post an emotional rant.

If it's not Division I basketball, it's small-college basketball. If you want to apply terms to which, that is fine. I know there are NAIA teams that are much better than Division II teams in terms of talent. I don't follow small-college basketball, but I do realize it is totally different in Division I.

I don't even know what a top-25 DII team would mean. Does that mean you are the 400th best basketball team in America by the RPI? lol.

I pulled up NKU's schedule and they played IU Kokomo this season and beat them 88-44. That's what happens when Division I schools normally play these small colleges. I went back and looked at their schedule from last year and see NKU beat UC Clermont 107-53. That tells me they would also blow out most of these other smaller non-Division I foes you mention. It's a different level that Division I schools play at.

A combined record of 39-12 against Division II competition is not exactly earth-shattering news. lol. Again, I know nothing about NKU's current roster, but I would guess if they were playing the same schedules as the teams you pointed out, NKU would probably be unbeaten or close to it. Any team on a given night can pull off an upset (Chaminade over Ralph Sampson and No. 1 Virginia in 1982), but over the course of a season Division II and NAIA types can not maintain it. They just do not have the players. For every Malone game you point out, I can probably pull out a 125-45 blowout when D-1 school play these small-time colleges. If you can't accept that, we can disagree without becoming disagreeable.

But looking at Bellarmine's schedule, it's a who's-who of McKendree, William Jewell, UI-Springfield, Saint Catharine, etc. I would hope they are unbeaten at home, if they are as good as you claim. Those kind of opponents do not conjure up visions of excitement in my eyes.

But if Bellarmine is losing to the likes of Midwestern State and Findlay, they have a LONG way to go before they start talking about beating Division I schools on a regular basis. Enjoy Division II for what it is worth. It's a chance for young men to go to college, play basketball, have fun. But it's a LONG way from Division I.
