I did not know this about December 19th. That is inexcusible. I can't believe the parents would stand for that type of situation. Very sad.

Does this mean they are relying on football players in their basketball program? If so, that answers the question. Hard to maintain an outstanding basketball program if you are relying on football players as well. You can have a couple, but even that can be a problem because of the overlapping seasons.

I can't believe this score. What has happened to the basketball program at Highlands? I asked earlier in another thread. I remember the days of Bob Muntis, Mike Vories, Dan Sullivan, Mark Stickling, Gerry Becker, McManus, the Malones, all players under Coach Shields and regional contenders. From an 8th Region person's perspective, I am shocked by this result today. Any explanations to how it reached this point?

Why have things changed so much for the Highlands basketball program? Admittedly, I don't follow it very closely being an 8th Region person, but I remember the days of Coach Ken Shields and Highlands was one of the best programs in the state. Is it an enrollment issue? A coaching problem? What gives?

I think Carson Williams wins it, with Faulkner or Goodin right behind. Any of the three, though I hope Taylor County ceases any stat-padding if that is the case. Goodin is a fine player and doesn't need help from stat people.

That's unfortunate if true. I noticed one of Goodin's game the number of baskets and assists just didn't make sense. Now maybe I understand why!

Totally agree with you. The Litkenhous Ratings obviously are not getting good scouting reports or close-up views of the teams they rank.

Very good point. No one in the state is going to handle Carson Williams once he gets the ball in the paint. If I were doing the scouting report on how to defend Owen County, I would front Carson in the post at all times without using a second man behind. Yes, it would open up lobs, but those are risky plays and need perfect passes. The other Owen County players are just too good to leave them open, and that's what some teams are doing when they double and triple team Carson. I am also wondering if any of the teams with depth like Oldham County might attempt to utilize full court pressure and up the tempo against Owen County. Oldham plays a lot of guys, and all-out pressure would possibly tire out the ball handlers for Owen County. It would also increase the possessions for both teams, so that might backfire as Carson could end up going for 60+ points in that type of game. Great regional at Henry County coming up! Can't wait!

I think Owen County proved beyond a shadow of a doubt they are a far superior team last night. Oldham County is solid, but until they can find a 7-8 man rotation, it is hard for them to find the continuity needed to defeat a team like Owen County on the road.

I guess Oldham County is still recovering from that trip to Arizona based on last night's game at Owen County. As I said, these ratings are way off. Welcome to the reality of head to head games, not a computer with flawed systems making the calls.

So much for the Litkenhous Ratings. A computer can not visualize a team's heart and determination. I also applaud both these teams for great seasons. Owen County has a great shot at winning the 8th Region and has a good draw in the Sweet 16 if they are fortunate enough to advance.

Oldham County also spoiled my 16-point prediction with that late flurry. I agree Owen County is heading into the tournament with momentum and playing their best basketball. Assuming they win the district, and it would be one of the great upsets in recent memory if they don't, Owen County should be in great position in the regional at Henry County. I believe South Oldham is the only 8th Region team that can knock off Owen County, that due to their uncanny three-point shooting. But even that would be a big upset. If Oldham County knocks off South Oldham in the district, we could have a Owen County/South Oldham first-round regional game depending on the draw. That would be the state's best regional opener I would think.

Anyone have the final rebound statistics for Carson Williams? I did not know if he had a double-double tonight. I saw it was posted he had 29 points.

Well, they were up by 16 with about 30 seconds left and I told my wife my margin is going to be exactly right. Then Oldham's reserves get a basket and free throw. I said a 16 point win, and it ends 13. Close enough! HAHA

Oldham County faces rival North Oldham next week in the 29th district. Owen County meets either Gallatin County or Eminence in the 31st. I think Gallatin County will defeat Eminence in a tight game, but having the home floor will give Gallatin a small edge. Meanwhile, South Oldham meets Trimble County in the other 29th district game. South should win this one and set up a rematch with Oldham County for the district championship. Those games are played at Trimble County.
