  1. Congratulations! I know how the little small schools stretch every penny so when donations come in, it's exciting!
  2. It was a great game! It's not the ending our guys had in mind when they set their goals at the beginning of the year but they left their hearts on the field. This team has a lot of talent. Not just our superstars with Barnes and Abernathy but several very talented athletes. This team was special and we are proud of the run they had together. The 3rd quarter was awful. Kudos to Danville. They did exactly what they were supposed to do by finding our weaknesses and exploiting them. There isn't much else to say. We put ourselves in a hole. When you are trying to battle back, EVERY second counts and EVERY call counts. It's unfortunate we found ourselves in that situation to begin with. Congratulations Danville. Good luck next weekend! Shout out to @BigVMan23, @ADopted ADmiral and @Lawnboy who ventured over to Indian territory. I was laughing with someone earlier in the day that if the Native Americans and Europeans could share Thanksgiving dinner, then Holy Cross, NCC and the Admirals could share a met over tailgate. It was nice to meet you guys! Now... on to basketball. Look for a few of these guys to play key roles on the floor this year. I may even post in the never visited swim/dive BGP thread because a few of our guys should do very, very well at state. Come look at the end of January...
  3. He's a good kid too. Does a nice job in the classroom. Good luck at Toledo!
  4. Very interesting. A few months ago I attended a dinner and our speaker was Kentuckian Kenny Davis who played in the controversial 1972 Olympic basketball game. He turned his life lesson into writing a book! Either way, unfortunately, this game has been tainted and both teams will come away with a bitter taste in their mouth. Huge life lesson for sure. I'm sure all of you here at BGP can recite the game "where the refs got it wrong" and it changed the outcome.
  5. Congratulations to all players. We have so many talented athletes in Northern KY!
  6. Isn't it the sign of a champion to believe you are the best? When our guys line up tonight, THEY BELIEVE they are the best 11 in 2A. I'm cool with that. “I am the greatest, I said that even before I knew I was.” Muhammad Ali
  7. Congratulations to everyone that made the team especially Owen Finke from Covington Holy Cross. Huge honor.
  8. The Eagle parents/fans are very hospitable. Thank you for making us feel welcome after a long drive. As ukfan70 pointed out, the Eagles didn't have their starting QB. We were able to give many of our younger guys some playing time and try some new things on the field. Looking forward to next week.
  9. Addiction is ugly. Zeke needs help and I hope his parents and friends stop enabling him so he gets it.
  10. a St. X kid's foot hit the board. When that happens you should be get penalized and score no higher than 2s. Kid came over to judges to address them and said he didn't hit the board. He is not penalized. Kid tells other divers that he definitely hit the board. He wins. Cov Cath diver should have been the winner.
  11. Northern Kentucky typically has strong showing with divers. This year is no exception. Allyson Heger, Holy Cross, was named top coach of the Kentucky High School Meet for the boys. Katie Uthe Mcgonigal, Notre Dame, won the award for the women. Region 7 boys had 4 of the top 6 places and 5 of the top 16...pretty damn impressive. Evan Brungs, Covington Catholic was 2nd. Gus Staubitz, Holy Cross was 5th. Owen Finke, Holy Cross was 6th. Holy Cross has never medaled in swim/dive before. Finn Murphy, Highlands was 7th and he's only an 8th grader. On the girls side we had 5 out of the top 10 divers in the state and 6 out of 16 in the state. Lindsey Fox, Scott was 1st and no one was close. Francie Case from NDA was 6th. Sophie Middendorf from NDA was 7th. Marian Tiemeyer, Campbell County was 8th. This speaks volumes about the diving program up here in Northern Kentucky. Congrats to all the coaches and divers.
  12. Yes. Sorry Northern Ky is now region 7. Robby did well at Regionals. Looks like he picked up a few medals. Here is the Psych sheet for state. http://khsaa.org/swimming/2016/16psychesheetswimming.pdf
  13. I know that basketball gets more looks but swimming is pretty exciting. Who are the top contenders this year in swimming and diving? The 9th region looks to have a solid year again with this group. Brendan Meyer, Covington Catholic Evan Brungs - Covington Catholic, diving Nick Smith, Covington Catholic Josh Smith, Covington Catholic Jack Johnson, Covington Latin Ty Grubbs, Scott Owen Downard, Highlands Nick Berry, Boone County Sophi Skinner, Notre Dame Mallory Beil, Dixie Samantha Glass, Notre Dame Amanda Smith, Notre Dame Katie Summe, Notre Dame Madeleline Vonderhaar, Notre Dame Krista Borchers, Covington Latin Mollie Bushelman, Beechwood Markie Duffy, Scott Bailey Fessler, Highlands Beth Ann Griffith, Highlands Abby Shoyat, Beechwood Shelby Whitt, Highlands Bray Zimmerman, Beechwood Lindsey Fox - Scott, diving
  14. I have a question. This thread and RCC9 made me think about the KHSAA rules. I think it was RCC9 that made the comment that people probably aren't upset because we don't understand the rules. So I looked them up on the KHSAA website. My question is.... many schools, including Holy Cross, offer kids sports camps (football, basketball, volley ball) during the summer for children in grades 3-8. These camps are marketed to the general community. Often this is a great way for the players to take a leadership role in his/her sport by instructing a younger child. These camps also give the program some visability in the community. Anyone can come to these camps and specifically in the Holy Cross neighborhood it may mean that kids attend from the neighborhood that do not belong to a feeder catholic school. Is that a KHSAA violation? It looks like it can be when you read the rules. If it is a violation, part 2 question, how can a school "own" a kid? I think I saw that question in a prior post as well. It seems silly to me and difficult to enforce.
  15. Hamilton is a great young man. Very talented athlete and great leader.
  16. Megan Nielander joins 1,000-point club Holy Cross swimmer Nielander joins 1,000-point club
  17. I wonder why Barnes hasn't played much lately? He really plays great defense. I haven't seen him get much time in last few games.
  18. I have nephews that play basketball for a Kenton County middle school. One is a great student, the other struggles. Over 50 kids tried out for basketball for the 7th grade team. If I talk with my sister about the benefits of her kids making the switch to Holy Cross for high school to benefit those kids both from an academic standpoint (on both ends of the spectrum) and to allow them less competition to try out for basketball, is that recruiting? Oh by the way, they can probably play football too because at a small school you get more athletes playing multiple sports. According to your interpretation of the rules, it is.
