That's not the point...you said he was not a young 8th grader and that's not the case. Some kids are 13 part of the year and turn 14 and others are 14 part of the year and turn 15. There isn't anything wrong with it, it just is what it is.

If he's 13 he's a young 8th grader...you can be 15 as an 8th grader as long as it's after August 1.

Couple of things.... 1) I referred to myself as "not a real man" or being scared to play football and chose soccer instead. My sons play football (a real sport)...I feel like I have the right to say what I feel. 2) if people are "defensive" they need to realize that it's a message board...they need to either grow thicker skin or quit reading.

Is this the ones that actually trip you or the ones that don't even touch you and you pretend it does with the equivalent of a sniper shot?!?! Then hold your shin and roll around on the ground writhing in pain...only to be up and running full speed again 60 seconds later? The best US athletes don't play soccer and they never will.

I think either team can lose and still beat Central.

There is...however, the decision was made years ago by BCHS HC Chuck Smith (and others) to not start contact football until 3/4 grade and with the success of the program it's kinda hard to argue. The BCHS staff holds coaches clinics for youth coaches and the program CLEARLY focuses on developing the players for the next level. Once the kids are in the system (even with missing 1/2 grade) they have some of the best coaching anywhere and develop over time. Our youth program doesn't play in a conference anymore nor play for any championships. They play about a 10-12 game schedule and then they have a banquet...then on to basketball.

Thanks Coach....we appreciate your post and try our best to do things that put our kids in the best position possible both now and when they pull on that black and gold jersey years later. We like playing the Somerset teams because they are some of the best coaches teams in the area and their kids always put up a fight. BCYF does not play 1/2 grade football and so our younger teams (split at least 3 ways w/Woodlawn, Junction City, Perryville) usually have a tough time competing but by the time they get to 5/6 grade they ready for anyone. I will resume scheduling duties next year and would like to continue our relationship w/LCYF...I think our leagues complement each other very well. Good luck as the season wraps up!

If the best US athletes played soccer we'd win every tourney ever played in the history of the world. Do you know why they don't play soccer?!?! Because it's boring and they are man enough to play a REAL sport. Word. Lol

I was meaning badmouthing football as a general statement not necessarily in this thread. It's not just me saying it...there is no question football is the better sport, proof is in the popularity. The life lessons and discipline kids learn from soccer IS IN NO WAY COMPARIBLE OF WHAT IS LEARNED IN FOOTBALL. To believe that it is is ridiculous.

What Americans think of the two sports in a nutshell: Football teaches you how to overcome fears and fight thru adversity. Soccer teaches you to flop and run.

First of all, I have nothing against people who play soccer...their are some fine kids that play the sport. I did not have a bad experience playing soccer, I was pretty good and won a rec/travel state title. I am just frustrated with all the people who bad mouth football when I can assure you kids get much more out of football than they do soccer (or any other sport). If you haven't seen firsthand what an unbelievable experience that young men get when playing football then it's hard for you to understand. I can assure you that it is far different than what any other sport can bring to the table. I was telling you the attendance in HS soccer/a Youth Football because I wanted you to get the picture that the biggest and most important sport is still football and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

I played soccer and not football growing up. I know what soccer brings to the table and I've seen what football (done the right way) can do for the confidence of kids who play it and there is ZERO comparison. I believe the vast majority of soccer players play it because they couldn't man up enough to play football or their parents fell for the "it's safe" argument early on. I put myself in the category of "too scared to play football". We get more people at our youth football games than at the high school soccer games.

I played soccer growing up until I was 18. My 18U team won the state title a long time ago. That being said...soccer is pathetically boring to watch and play. It's awful. I have boys and they played soccer until they were old enough to play football and not ONE SECOND longer. Football is an amazing sport that teaches discipline and teamwork. Soccer is not something I would allow my kids to play after 5/6 years old. They are so excited to play football that by the time they can they never mention soccer again. The only soccer that we watch in our house is US Soccer men/women...and that's more for the patriotic aspect of it. If I had girls I'd be all for them playing soccer.

Sounds familiar....the difference with Boyle Co MS is that we still got our playoffs in our conference and to participate in the other "state championship" would make us have to play multiple times per week and the coaching staff is not in favor of that. I would like to play in it myself because BCMS is well on its way to have back-to-back undefeated seasons.

Because of the history I like Danville's Admiral Stadium! Heading there shortly for a middle school game between Boyle Co MS and Danville Bate MS. Knox County Central was pretty cool last year with the rock mountain behind the home bleachers but man was it cold?!?!

Must have had a recruiting visit to remember.
