  1. Saw them yesterday at 7 on 7 with NCC, Conner and Newport. I have to say that I was impressed with their numbers and the coaching staff. Kids seemed dedicated and coaches seemed into it. They might not have won every series but they competed hard. Hope it goes well and those boys can have a great High School football experience.
  2. I've had 4 of them starting in '93 with 4.0 straight 6. Got a '98 with the same engine. In '08 got one with the V-6 and now have a '12 4-door. In '13 they tweaked the engine to get around 285 HP out of it so I wish I would have waited 1 more year. The 4 door rides much better than the 2-door. It's the best thing for driving in the snow that I've had (not that we have gotten much of that lately). I've always liked the cloth seats better than the leather seats. You'll slide around in the leather seats. Newer models have power windows and mirrors, heated cloth and leather seats, nice entertainment systems, etc. There's so many options and so much aftermarket stuff you can do with them, you'll never really get bored with it. Knock on wood, I've never had any problems with them but I haven't kept one past 70K miles. The new models have some really nice features. The hard tops are nice for winter but now the soft tops are so thick that I wouldn't really say that the hard top is a must have. Feel free to DM me with any specific questions.
  3. Let me throw one out of the blue. By no means the biggest but may have had the biggest impact to it's sport: How about the kid that won and then got DQ'd for cheating at the Soapbox Derby back in 1973? Used magnets to give his car a head start on the field. The Soapbox Derby in Akron used to get crowds of tens of thousands and made national news every year. Back then, it was a big deal. It had lost Chevy as a sponsor the year before and this helped quicken the demise of the event. I think it's now on it's way back a little but it will never get back to where it once was.
  4. Great to hear that Delagrange will be back playing!
  5. It was surprising to me that Painter didn't put Williams in for Eifert for rebounding on the Virginia free throws at the end of regulation. Would have had a much better chance of boxing out and preventing the tip back on the missed shot. 3 inches taller and much more physical.
  6. St. Joe's Camp Springs is Dine in or Carry Out.
  7. I second the St. Joe's Camp Springs recommendation! Best fish fry in Campbell County.
  8. On a little lighter side on this topic: I have to give the Newport Central Catholic students some props for this one. Last night at the Highlands game after a call that went against NCC the students all started chanting "We Want Chappy", referring to an older 9th region official that wasn't at the game. The officials on the floor got a pretty good chuckle out of it.
  9. It's hard to top Thad Matta's Alma Matter: Hoopeston Cornjerkers, also in Illinois.
  10. They could have called more! Physical game. Someone mentioned how physical it has become over in the Highlands/Cov Cath thread. High School basketball is getting to look more like football. Thought the refs kept this one in hand but still missed some or were just tired of blowing the whistle.
  11. The one that gets me is when all the fans yell for the QB to "Throw the ball away!" However, in high school there is no throwing the ball away unless you are clearly trying to get it to a receiver. When Intentional Grounding is called I still hear people screaming "he was out of the tackle box". Now there are times when QBs still hold on to it to long but they just can't "throw it away" like many fans think.
  12. It was longer ago than Smith but maybe a more similar comparison is another Notre Dame guy, Frank Jacobs from New Cath.
  13. Does cancelled mean done or will they still finish out the tourney for both boys and girls?
  14. Hey Watusi. Coming down for the game. Looking forward to it. Hear it's a great place to play. Any "Can't Miss" places we should eat at before the game??
  15. Hicks is a warrior. Hope it’s not serious. Super kid.
  16. Paul Wiggins at Bishop Brossart has done an amazing job bringing that program back from the verge of collapse.
  17. Anderson looked pretty good right from the start against Highlands. Kept running guys deep and Highlands couldn't stop them. Anderson QB was on target on the deep balls. Highlands did get a few scores against them but couldn't keep up with the scoring that Anderson was getting. NCC looked good against Anderson. Moved the ball well in the short to intermediate game and had a few deep balls that connected. Anderson didn't get the vertical game going against NCC and the Anderson QB didn't look as good on the medium routes as he did on the deep balls. I don't know if Anderson was just working on different parts of their playbook against NCC or if NCC was really taking the deep stuff away and forcing them to throw underneath. Someone asked earlier how Cramer looked. I thought he looked a little rusty. Wouldn't say bad my any means but looked exactly as you would expect from a QB in his first 7 on 7, that played baseball in the spring and just got back on the field after hernia surgery (per an earlier post). His arm looked strong and once he gets the reps in, he'll be fine. I thought it looked like all the teams had positives they can gain confidence from but plenty of things that they can improve on.
  18. Whoops. Didn't realize I did that until I saw you post and then couldn't figure out what you were saying until I went back to that post and saw that I somehow hit Dislike. I was going to hit it again to see if I could un-do it but was afraid I'd dislike it again!
  19. I think it was all done in fun and I don't think any of us were stupid enough to actually hit the guy.
  20. This one from a Campbell County scrimmage at Tates Creek in the late 80's. The JV teams were in and Coach Walton from TC called the players from both sides together like he would often do during scrimmages to tell them what they did or didn't do wrong. He looked at us and quietly said: "Boys, that side judge over there (he looked over and pointed at him) cost me a playoff game last year. We are going to run a sweep at him and I want all of you to try to hit him." The official knew something was up and as the play started and all 22 of us ran at him, he turned and ran off the field. Coach Walton was laughing like crazy. Walton was a character. If one of his guys got beat on a play, he'd ask both teams to line up and then he'd ask our player that just beat his guy what his name was. He'd then look at his player and would say: "Meet (name), he just kicked your tail!"
