  1. Again, Mayfield's 2A history is more impressive than yours. We have been more "impressive" than you in 2A, and more impressive than you in 1A. As to the boxing analogy, that just shows you don't know football, and you certainly don't know Mayfield football. But you will soon enough.
  2. if you want to cherry pick similarities, throw in that both games were played on earth too. we won 21-10. and we made our plays, we didnt have them made for us by the officials, which is what DeSales needed. Look, I am very sorry to break the news. Mayfield was better than DeSales last year, and is better than DeSales this year. I am not alone in this opinion as we polled higher than DeSales both years. However, enjoy the time now to debate the matter, because it will be put to rest this year. (-reserving a spot for DeSales in the "excuses why we lost to Mayfield club")
  3. i meant it as a friendly poke. DeSales barely got past Murray last year, with some considerable help from the officials. But this year they don't have to sweat out a nail biter with Murray, cause they will get us instead. So I was obliquely digging at them by pointing out that they BARELY beat Murray, which means they are not nearly as high and mighty as they appear to think, and reminding them that barely beating Murray and beating Mayfield are two very different things. if you think Murray is gonna give us all we want........eh.
  4. this isn't a bad take overall. I bolded one part though, just to point out that Mayfield already has more 2A championships than DeSales. We proved ourselves in 2A long ago. On a side note, this conversation is the same every year. The only thing that changes is the name of the other team. It's "DeSales" now. Prior to that, it was "Beechwood" Honestly, every single thing said now sounds like DeSales' fans are copying and pasting posts from years past and teams that learned painful lessons. Been going on for forty plus years for Mayfield fans. DeSales sounds like a good team, it should be a real good game. At least you won't have to endure another nail-biter with Murray like last year.
  5. Nope. didn't disparage them at all, other than to say Mayfield was better. And i pointed out reasons....the rankings last year, and our common opponent. I also rebutted their stated notion that 2A would be tougher for us by pointing out that we already have a superior history in 2A. Everything i pointed out was factual, and i didn't say one negative thing about their team other than they barely squeaked by Murray. If that's disparaging and lashing out.....well, nice to meet you Oprah. I don't really want to look at it from their perspective. This is not a therapy session, or the middle east peace talks. They can have their perspective and I will keep mine, it's a football internet message board, one should expect a little bravado and homerism. p.s. the Oprah thing was a joke. kidding on the square. you accused me falsely of disparaging another team and i don't think i did.
  6. I don't think the post was childish. All we have heard from Desales is about how 2A is gonna be tougher for us. This is because Mayfield has been consistently ranked higher than Desales, so it made it tough for you to argue that your team was better. So you simply imply that your class is better, and better in a way that will make a difference. I am merely pointing out that we have already been in this class, and we did better in it than Desales ever has. And, well, we are coming back to do it again. I have no idea how you would have done last year against last years williamsburg team. I do know exactly how you did against Murray, and it wasn't exactly impressive. But congratulations on squeaking by them. The talk is fun, but we are in your class now, and your application for the "woulda coulda shoulda beat Mayfield" club is in the mail.
  7. I like the Desales talk. Let'em be preseason 1. Let'em believe that little ole Mayfield can't compete at the 2A level. Please KHSAA please don't put us in the big bad 2A level, the level where we already were and won five state titles. That's 3 more titles in 2A than what Desales has. I will take Mayfield vs. the field this year. Mayfield will be better this year than last year, at the end of the year. Some growing pains early perhaps.
  8. for thirty years. every year, almost, some school has their best team ever, and they can't wait to meet Mayfield. We go deep in the playoffs every single year for decades, so every year we end up playing some school's best team ever. And every single time they think they are something special, or something we haven't seen before. heck, we might get beat by them, but we win our fair share. I say our fair share because we have worked for these wins for decades, building our program year by year. so our fair share is the lions share. Desales might get us next year. I doubt it, but if they make it, i would expect a good game. Here is what i do know; they will probably be like most of the others, good for a couple years, then back into the middle of the pack, while we will be rolling on for another couple decades.
  9. BW peeps okay, notwithstanding whatever it is they put in the water that causes their mass delusions. If i were them, and we were them for a while b/c of danville, I would be mad that we were moving. getting the monkey off the back is a good thing.
  10. I don't know about tougher, or a lot tougher, but i agree it is our road til someone takes it from us.
  11. No stock in the beginning of the season huh? Mayfield beat Beechwood, at Beechwood, by 11 points in the next to the last week of the season. And we finished the season by beating an undefeated Willamsburg team. I sure hope you aren't a stockbroker.
  12. i think i am going to quit engaging in theoretical disputes about which team would beat which team when Mayfield can't even be acknowledged to being likely to beat teams that we played and beat. The jealousy is strong with some of you.
  13. i dont think you are correct when you say Mayfield would lose to graves. We played them, and we beat them. Beat them worse than anybody else did. Beat em worse than Pulaski did. I am glad my post provided amusement to you, and everyone and anyone is entitled to disagree with my opinion. your post likewise provided amusement to me when you say how graves would beat us....-checks the schedule and scores again- yep, we beat em all right.
  14. i can't comment on Mayfield or Desales. Never saw Desales play. I have been thinking about Mayfield though. This wasn't supposed to be our best season, it was a pretty common idea that this years team might lose 4 games or so. It was also a pretty common thought that McCracken County was going to crush us. I think the kids this year surprised us, both in being better than we thought, and tougher to beat than we thought. A great group of kids who really got after it. I see the comments about other people's perspective on Mayfield based on what they saw in Bowling Green, and I can't totally disagree, I didn't think it was our best game or effort. Gotta give credit to your opponent on that issue of course, but I don't believe anybody who only saw the state final saw Mayfield at our best. In a one game scenario against anyone else in 5, 3,2, 1a, i will go with Mayfield.
  15. good question: I was one of those that didn't think Williamsburg had a chance. Thought it would be a blowout. I attended both the BW game and the WB game. I feel like WB played their best game of the year, basing that on seeing the one game . Hard to imagine that they could make some of those plays game in and game out. And Mayfield seemed a bit down, not sharp in that game. Due to WB getting after it. I don't know about BW, was that their best effort or not. Hard to decide, but sitting the stands for the BW game, I never felt worried about it, BW just didn't seem explosive. I was nervous in the WB game, because they demonstrated the desire to make plays plus the ability to do. So I will go with WB for that reason.
  16. they hopped on the therapy couch and never got off. i feel their pain, i had danville nightmares until ....they stopped
  17. Shrugs. We get a lot of that. People want to play us with last year's team, or next years team.
  18. I also think the Ref whispered the truth about who shot JFK to the Mayfield player.
  19. That's what i was thinking. Anytime a press release is as long as the lord of the rings, somebody somewhere is covering something up. But my other reaction is ...little bit of an overreaction. Calls are blown all the time. Calls that impact the game. What about holding calls that aren't made that allow that touchdown pass to be made? This isn't a slippery slope, it's a cliff. I mean, as much as I don't like Murray, and it's a lot lol, they got a terrible call. And I disagree that the call has to be made every time. It shouldn't have been called, and then they botched the application of the call. Murray got it twice. But to think this is special, a bad call heaven forbid, and to react this strongly, just seems wrong to me.
  20. I attended the Graves game and the Mayfield game. The best individual performance I would give to Shelton from Williamsburg. I have no idea what his stats were, but that catch for a td with one hand was good enough all by itself to get the nod from me.
  21. Because we are proud of our team, proud of our kids, and frankly, it gets a bit old when the refrain is always the same..."the better team lost." yeah, Williamsburg played a great game. As i said, two of those catches were as good as i have ever seen. They played awesome. So did Mayfield. You say how can we not see the reason some may say the yellowjackets played a better game. Yeah, i can see the reason. I don't have to agree. Can you see why it might get tiresome to hear this over and over, and can you see why we might disagree with the assessment of who played the better game? Scoring is part of the game still, not just an accumulation of yardage. We won, and have a pretty solid basis to think we played the better game.
  22. Still closer than the seven people who picked incorrectly. I was way off, totally underestimated Williamsburg and they should be proud of the effort. You can troll all you want.
  23. First: congrats to my cards for winning a tough, tough game. played great, at times, and showed the true heart of a champion. Also congrats to Williamsburg for a fantastic effort. They came to play. I was surprised how good they were. Two of the catches they made were as fine as catches as one will ever see in a high school game, and another half dozen of them were very well done. The qb was super-good, eluding pressure, running with the ball, and made great passes. As for all the "outplayed us","who is the better team talk," .....eh. The mayfield haters are basically reduced to arguing what ifs. If we were outplayed so badly, why couldn't Williamsburg get the ball across the goal line on TWO occasions? Was it poor offensive play calling again like it was last week? Or could it just be that the Mayfield boys get pretty good and clutch when they need to be. controlled the game? Mayfield led at half and led all the way until it was tied at the very end. Then the overtime. Maybe some of you posters can get the KHSAA to organize a tournament for all the teams that were better than Mayfield but couldnt beat Mayfield.
  24. no way Williamsburg scores 49 points. 4.9 points, maybe. I don't understand all the dislike of the banter. This is a prediction thread no? Should we predict a close score just to be polite? Mayfield wins in a nail-biter, 2-0. or Mayfield by thirty-plus points.
