3 Reasons to Encourage Playing Multiple Sports
gh0pper replied to theguru's topic in KY Football (High School)
My son played football and as soon as that was done he went into wrestling. He also found time to hold a part time job. He had talked of trying track but never did. I wish he had because I knew that high school lasts just a short time and then it's on to college. I would encourage any kid to play whatever sports he was interested in. -
My son went to see him at home when he heard about it. That's how he affected the kids he coached it was about life after football also.

Thanks coach, he enjoyed being able to play in that game. Kind of a last high school game. -

Thanks for the complements. He got stuck at nose guard for several games and seemed to be forgotten. After visiting Georgetown every school after that he was always comparing to them and they didn't measure up. The coaches and assistants we met had nothing but good things to say about the school. -

He's 6' and around 225 lbs. He wrestled at 215. They are not sure if he'll play linebacker or Defensive end. -

Collin Portman #69 North Oldham - 128 tackles as junior and over 100 this year. Played nose tackle and Defensive end.

What was this? A popularity contest?

Collin Portman from North Oldham can play any sport he decides to try. Proud of the man he's become. When his younger brother came to live with us at 4 months Collin said he could have his room. He gets up early on school days and helps get his special needs brother ready for school. He puts him on the bus and then gets ready for school. Then goes to practice after school comes home does homework and then starts over again. Also works part time job. Never complains because he knows playing sports is a privilege.

44 and 69 carried the team this year both sides of the ball.

I've seen some bad calls this year but have to say it's a lot harder than it looks to call a game. It's easy to see from above and second guess. With that being said I saw at least 2 really bad calls at the Collins vs North Oldham game. One was the touchdown catch in the corner in front of the goal line and the other was a fumble recovery that was overturned after the players had left the field to change possession. The rest is just ticky tacky stuff.
-
North has struggled offensively all season. If the defense doesn't set them up with a short field they have problems sustaining long drives. Hopefully they get their noseguard back and can move #69 back to end.
-
Spencer had only one play from their offense. The other score came from their defense on a fumble return.

2A #2 DeSales @ Fairdale Predictions
gh0pper replied to ColtPride's topic in KY Football (High School)
Does Fairdale still have that big quarterback? That boy can throw the football. -
As sad as it is he is right. I've seen it time and again with coaches, because a kid is bigger he must be better. My son doesn't pass the eye test but when they strap on the pads he somehow comes out on top. I put up with it my whole playing career. If you put me in a room now with 40 other guys and told a coach to pick out the person who played professionally they would probably overlook me. Coaches make many mistakes when it comes to recruiting, they can't measure desire to succeed.

I'm pretty sure they will be ok on the defensive side but not sure offensively. Will be hard to replace Beasley. A lot of the kids returning got playing time last year due to injuries and big leads so there will be some experience returning.
-
I was incorrect on his weight. He wrestled at 182 the day after their lose to Owensboro, so he has gained 30 lbs.
-
He's picked up over 20lbs since last year, hoping for a good year ahead.
