Murray will be good with several returning seniors. But I'm hearing that since Hornbuckle committed to play football at Duke he may not play basketball now. That could hurt Murray losing their big man. Paducah will have lots of experience returning also. They will be able to score with anyone. Top 5 1. Murray 2. Paducah 3. Graves 4. Carlisle 5. up for grabs

From the talks I've heard over the summer it sounds like it will be the James Boone show in Region 1.

Reading through all of this that what I was thinking also. If he is only 6' and not a great ball handler and not a great shooter... Does this kid play football? Maybe not a D1 basketball player but sounding more and more like D1 football talent...

Addition to that how long will Birdsong stick around for a rebuild? Birdsong has taken 2 different teams to the Sweet 16 in the past 3 years, both of them was a class with 6+ seniors and possibly the best basketball classes at each school. But how long will he stay there and rebuild???

Most people thought a Murray v Calloway 4 would make a great regional Championship. But who really wants to see 2 teams play for the 4th time... Let's see March Madness at its best and have a Carlisle and Graves regional Championship!!! Bring on the Madness!!!

Don't be surprised is the senior lead Graves County Lady Eagles make it out of the bottom half of the bracket. They are playing really good team ball.

I don't really see the issue here??? Region 1 teams get a scheduled practice time in the CFSB Center before their game.

With the shooters and quickness Tilghman already has adding a Vogt to that team could make them a state contender. Who do you think will come out of the bottom half to challenge Calloway?

Calloway should have the easiest road to the finals, if they don't overlook anyone. It's tournament time now and anything is possible. I would like to see Birdsong have to play his former team in the finals, how interesting of a game would that be? Graves is playing better ball now and no one expects for them to make a run so that should make them hungry. If they don't overlook a Fulton City team that has turned things around as of late. Don't count out Tilghman or Murray, Tilghman can put pressure on the ball and shoot lights out but the lack of a post player could hurt them in making a run. Murray has been playing good ball lately and they have the size and shooters to give Tilghman trouble. Murray won their only meeting early in the season 68-72. Then Murray or Tilghman vs Graves should be a great semifinal game. Graves had Tilghman down by 13 at half before the Tornados "stormed" back to win 55-49. It's March so bring on March Maness!!!

It was a #2 vs #3 game and McCracken has been inconsistent all year plus was without a starter so I wouldn't say an upset.

You are right about Calloway, they do get a lot of calls from the refs and usually are working the refs for every call possible. They are a good shooting team but in the region tournament you let a team get physical with them and they don't get the foul calls it could be a different game.

Region 1 looks to be Calloway's to lose. With Birdsong at the reigns he should be able to return them to Lexington. I think Murray can beat most teams other than Calloway but with Tilghman's speed and shooting ability they could be the surprise in the 1st region. If 1 of those 3 don't make it its because someone gets hot at the right time.

So what's up with Graves? Up 11 on McCracken in the 2nd quarter and lose, up 13 on Tilghman at the half and lose. Vogt had 11 points at the half and was dominating the game, then only managed 4 points the entire 2nd half. Did they get away from what was working?

The long bus ride means a lot. An average Graves team, probably 4th-5th in a weak Region 1, played Hopkinsville at Graves on a Tuesday night and lead most of the game but could finish the game at the end. Hoptown escaped that one but playing a good team shows that bus ride will affect you.

10. Mayfield, 8-10, The Cardinals got blitzed on Tuesday by Paducah Tilghman 72-30. That's funny using a football reference in a Mayfield and Tilghman game. Bet Tilghman wish the football games could end that way.

Did Mayfield give Carlisle a taste of their own medicine with some home cooking?

Region 1- This the best defensive player has to be Chris Vogt from Graves County. He has got to be averaging 5-6 blocks per game. If you bring the ball into the lane, you either have to alter your shot or it is getting swatted.

Paducah might not have started off so hot if Graves would have started the game with Vogt. Any reason he didn't start???

Not to get ahead of myself but has a player ever won state championships from multiple schools? This will be the first chance of anyone from Graves/Mayfield area.

I would think that Smith from Graves would be on the "other players to watch" list. He will be the best play on a better than expected Graves team.

UHA had a good starting 5 but Henderson has way more depth. UHA got tired after the 2 quarter and didn't play with the same intensity after that. If fouls were kept UHA would have several foul out early. scoring by quarter 17-14 UHA 18-16 UHA 18-20 GC 14-22 GC 15-17 GC Graves put in JV last part of this quarter and UHA made it close

Graves looked better Saturday at home vs. University Heights(UHA). They played a 5 quarter varsity scrimmage and won 3 of the 5 quarters. Total final score of 89-82. They look more together and looked ready to play instead of just getting off a 2 hour bus ride and playing. Vogt started but didn't play much. He had ice on his ankle after he came out.

They will be fine as the year moves along.
