Top Teams

1. Calloway County, 12-1, The Lakers beat McCracken County 38-36 on Saturday Night. It took a put back and a FT to put them up. McCracken had taken the lead 36-35 with 30 seconds left. The game was closer than most anticipated. The Lakers have 3 games this week. Mayfield, Marshall, and UHA. The Marshall game is a big district game as this is a 3 team district.

2. Murray, 10-4, The Tigers beat Henry County, TN on Saturday. This week they play Fulton City on Tuesday and Ballard Memorial on Thursday both on the road. The Bombers game will see if there is a team that might challenge Murray in the All A. On Saturday the Tigers host Velma Jackson, MS. They are 12-2 so far this year. This game is at Murray but is part of the weekend Mustang Madness.

3. Paducah Tilghman, 9-3, They beat Graves County on the road on Saturday. It was a nice road win for the tornadoes. This week they have 2 home games. On Tuesday a district game with St. Mary and on Friday they play 2nd region top 5 team in Christian County. That game could be a track meet.

4. McCracken County, 6-7, The Mustangs may have lost to Calloway but showed a lot of improvement from their 1st game with them. They had a 36-35 lead but couldn’t hold it as Parker Adams had a put back and got fouled. The Mustangs play Graves County on Tuesday then play Muhlenberg County in their Mustang Madness on Saturday.

5. Graves County, 7-6, The Eagles had an early double digit deficit to Paducah Tilghman on Saturday but fought to make a game out of it. Vogt had a big game and kept it close. The Eagles will play @ McCracken on Tuesday. The winner will claim that #4 spot in the rankings. They will play @ Mayfield on Friday in a big district match-up. They host Fulton City on Saturday which should be an easy win.

6. Marshall County, 6-6, The Marshall do not play this weekend. They have 3 games this week. Cairo, IL comes to town on Tuesday. They go to Calloway on Friday in a big district match-up. They finish the week hosting Carterville, IL as part of the weekend Mustang Madness.

7. Carlisle County, 9-4. The Comets lost at home in a 49-44 defeat to Ballard Memorial. The game was a low scoring foul fest. The Comets will play @ Lyon County on Tuesday and finish the week @ Hickman County on Friday. Carlisle narrowly beat the Falcons in December 70-68. A win here gives the Comets a big advantage in getting the #1 seed in districts.

8. Ballard Memorial, 6-7, The Bombers upset Carlisle County on Saturday. 49-44 to get them a nice win on the road. The Bombers have been playing well of late and look to make some noise in the All A. They have 3 home games this week, Cairo on Monday, Murray on Thursday, and ST. Mary on Friday. A tough week for the Bombers but a good week to see if the win against Carlisle is for real.

9. St. Mary, 8-6, The Vikings beat Mayfield 50-37 and leapfrog the Vikings in the rankings. The Vikings play Paducah Tilghman on Tuesday and Ballard Memorial on Friday. Two solid opponents this week.

10. Mayfield, 6-5, They lost @ St. Mary on Saturday 50-37. They beat them 65-51 in December. The Cardinals host 2 big games this week in Calloway on Tuesday and Graves on Friday.

Top Games this weekend:

Tuesday:

St. Mary @ Paducah Tilghman: 1st district match-up for these two teams hoping to get that #1 seed to be able to play CCA in the district.

Graves County @ McCracken County: a battle of 2 large schools. The Mustangs beat Graves in the semifinals of the region last year. Even though both teams have completely different teams this should be a battle.

Thursday:

Murray @ Ballard Memorial: This battle of All A teams will give us a chance to see if someone can challenge the Tigers in the All A. Ballard just beat Carlisle and looking to knock off another top team. If the Bombers can get more consistency they could make a run in the All A.

Friday:

Marshall County @ Calloway County: a big district game. Marshall need a win to stay in contention for the #1 seed in this 3 team district.

Graves County @ Mayfield: A big district game and for seeding in this 3 team district. #1 seed gets automatic trip to regionals.

Carlisle County @ Hickman County: the Comets barely escaped with a 70-68 win @ home last time. The Falcons had leading scorer Rayshun Shields quit over the Christmas Break but have had others step up in his absence. Ethan Carter has played well of late and Jordyn Naranjo an 8th grader has played well. The Falcons also got Center Jacob Crittendon back from injury. A win by the Comets gives them a 3-0 district record with inside track for the #1 seed.

St. Mary @ Ballard Memorial: This could be a preview of a semifinal game of the All A. Ballard will be the #2 seed and the Vikings the #3 seed. St. Mary won last time 66-58. The old district rivials continue to battle even though they are no longer in the same district. Things got heated after the game the last time they played.

Fulton City @ Fulton County: this game is 1st district game of the year for the Pilots. Both teams are trying to avoid the #4 seed. This game is one of those that records don’t matter and it will be a battle.

I heard the Graves County and Paducah Tilghman game on Saturday was a really good game determined by just a few points with the win to Paducah Tilghman. I guess the rankings with those two being ranked 3rd & 5th inside the region proved to be accurate based on that game. From what I was told, the big man for Graves, Chris Vogt, was very solid.

It was a close game. PT jumped out 20-8 after the 1st quarter but Graves battled back. Vogt ended up with 19.

Paducah might not have started off so hot if Graves would have started the game with Vogt. Any reason he didn't start???
