cols Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Hopkinsville practices at Union county high school Sunday night. I think this is funny!! Henderson girls have won 8 out ten region titles and they don't have a practice in the gym before they play. Like this year it is at Marion which the lady cols haven't played at in 8 years since they cut the nets down and didn't step foot in the gym. I wonder if Henderson boys win the region if coach Cal will let them in Rupp to have a 2 hr practice. So Henderson and Webster found out and now they are going tonight. Now that's funny to both teams have played at least one game their a year. I wonder if Union county boys and girls team gave them all a scrimmage game. Lol.
lovin_war Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I don't really see the issue here??? Region 1 teams get a scheduled practice time in the CFSB Center before their game.
cols Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 Never before has any team that I know of been allowed to go to hoptown or Madisonville and practice.
wkyColonel Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I don't really see an issue either. I would be curious if it is a matter of just asking or if there is a fee to practice at another school's gym. With both of Union County's teams being eliminated during District play, I wouldn't foresee any scheduling issues. I'd hazard a guess that Hendo doesn't want to drive 40mins to practice; whereas, Hoptown is willing to drive the hour and a half to practice in Morganfield.
gchs_uk9 Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I would be curious if it is a matter of just asking or if there is a fee to practice at another school's gym. That's what I was thinking. They might not have been allowed to go to Madisonville or Hopkinsville, but maybe they just called Union and asked and Union said "come on up."
gchs_uk9 Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 A quick glance at Union County's schedule shows that Crittenden County, Henderson County, Madisonville, and Webster County have all already played a game at Union this year. Hopkinsville hadn't played there so that may be why they pursued a chance to practice. By the way, I've never believe getting to practice in a gym before a tournament was that big of a deal. High school gyms are high school gyms. It always seemed to me making an unnecessary bus trip to some other school was wasting time (and money) when you could have just been practicing at home. But that's just my opinion.
GreatLakes Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I thought this was of common nature for teams to do?

The schools would be crazy NOT to get a practice in the gym beforehand if given the chance. I really don't see an issue here or see a point to this post at all.
Harry Doyle Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I like it. Gives the NCAA Tourney feel where they all get a day or two at the different sites. Start a new tradition 2nd Region...good call Union County.
Harry Doyle Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 ....and, as far as the Practicing in Rupp comment by COLS, I was always under the impression that all of the Swt 16 teams are allowed up there for a practice on Tuesday? Or is that the preseason thing at Rupp where they have several schools up for scrimmages?
cols Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 Here is my point. Never has Henderson being allowed to practice at Madisonville or Hopkinsville before a tournament and during that year they didn't have a game on that floor. But to be honest I don't think it is a issue I think it is funny. Getting one practice isn't going to win or lose you a regional.

Coach Haworth evidently thought it might help to practice at Union and I think it was a great move. The one practice might not win the region but I think it is helpful to see and practice in the gym where you are going to play. After all, it's almost a home game for Hendo.
scon36 Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 We talkin' 'bout practice. Not talkin' 'bout the game. Practice...
