I didn't think it was a issue but maybe it is. Maybe not for Henderson and Hoptown but what about a school that can't spend the extra money getting to the gym. Then you could say it's a unfair advantage to the school that couldn't afford to go.

I do not know about the 9th Region today, but back in the 1960's and 70's all region participates where allowed to practice once at the host's gym.

Never before has any team that I know of been allowed to go to hoptown or Madisonville and practice.

I can remember Fred Harper, coach at Todd County Central, begging KHSAA officials to just let his players walk into Rupp Arena the morning of the opening state tournament game in 1981. He told them most of his players had never been out of Todd County, let alone see a basketball arena.

 

No soap. And, sure enough, when his kids hit the floor, you talk about deer in the headlights. They recovered eventually, but not enough to overcome a huge deficit early and lost to Boyd County by ten.

No practice at Rupp

Either all or none get a chance to practice there.

 

In 1st region all teams boys and girls get 1 hour and 15 minute practice the day before they play.

Way back in the late 60's we went to Breathitt to practice for the regionals. However, the bus driver blew the engine before we could get to the Breathitt county line. The reason I remember it so well we coasted into the parking lot of the last business where you could buy booze in Perry County. LOL Anyone thirsty, me always!

I know it's been the case in the 5th Region as long as I've lived here. All participants get an hour of practice beforehand. Not all choose to use it.

Just to clear up, all 2nd region teams were given the opportunity to practice and only Hopkinsville and Henderson accepted and practiced at the Union County gym. Figures that the two favorites would accept, maybe to get an extra edge.

The facts are hoptown called and practiced then Henderson found out and called for a practice to.

And now they are changing the schedule again. Schools have been closed, state has been under a state of emergency, people have been stranded on the interstate in Western Kentucky and yet we must get the games played before the girls state tournament? Weather events like this happen once every 20 or so years, safety concerns should be taken into consideration. Lets just hope for a sunny and warm day Saturday.
