  1. Greenwood is very good. No quit in them. FS led most of the way but Gators seemed to wear down the Cats in the 4th. FS bottled up Jackson Adams all night...till he got loose from 62 yards away with about 7 minutes left. Greenwood took the lead with about 2 minutes to go, then FS drove 80 yards to win it. FS needed a diverse offense tonight and they had it. FS was hampered with several false start penalties early, and Greenwood committed a huge pass interference penalty on 4th down to keep FS's winning drive going. Best 6 bucks I've spent in a long time.
  2. Sounds like maybe SW defense got tired in the 4th quarter. If SW has some players going both ways and CH didn't, I understand how the game went. Seemed like the same thing happened to FS against Greenwood. FS led most of the game, then Greenwood was able to move the ball in the 4th. Big advantage for teams that can platoon.
  3. Fulton County HS would have the westernmost stadium. I'm guessing Phelps would be the easternmost and Fulton City the southernmost?
  4. LOL Couldn't see that from where I was at. I wondered how she got across there so well with dress shoes on...
  5. Everyone is talking about FS and South Warren in 4A district 2, but we had better keep an eye on Allen Co.-Scottsville. They only lost to Greenwood by a touchdown last week and laid a whooping on Monroe Co. this week. They are throwing the ball a lot. Whoever wins the FS-SW game doesn't have the district wrapped up until they contend with AC-S. Maddie Alexander being crowned homecoming queen at FS is one of the neatest things I have ever seen in high school football. After being announced as the queen, she stopped long enough to have a couple of pictures taken, then raced across the field in her dress and nice shoes, helmet in hand, to the field house to suit up for the game. About 15 minutes later, she stepped on the field to kick the first of seven extra points she made that night. Makes me proud to be an FSfan.
  6. FS had trouble last year when they only had to worry about stopping Adams. Now they have to worry about Willie Reynolds too. But FS defense is much improved this year. FS is still run-heavy but so far it is all they have needed. They have shown the ability to throw the ball better this year should they need to. Eventually, they are going to have to be more diverse on offense to beat the better teams. Should be a great game. I'll guess FS 28-24.

  8. Metcalfe was better than last year. The QB had some good throws whenever he had time to throw it, which wasn't often. They racked up some yardage but the FS defense held them from scoring. Metcalfe's TD came on a fumble recovery in the end zone. The Hornets may shock some people in their district, they won't be a pushover against 2A teams. On to Greenwood for a HUGE test.
  9. I think SW wins this one. Don't think it will be a running clock this year. This is the best rushing attack SW has faced this season as Adams has big help from Reynolds. Will be a good test to see how good the SW defense will be. If Greenwood doesn't fare any better this year then 4A may be in deep trouble. I expect SW offense to be better with Namvong returning. I'll guess SW 28-7.
  10. Homecoming for FS this week. Gotta be as early a homecoming game as I can remember. Sometimes it can be a distraction, but I think the Cats have too much talent for Metcalfe to handle. I'll say FS 48-6.
  11. Halftime started about 8 o'clock. Both teams came out on the field to warm up for the second half and with about a minute left on the 3-minute warm up clock the teams were sent back to the locker rooms. The storm front was still at least 2 hours away and the lightning appeared to be coming from a long way off. Looked to me like the game could have been very easily and safely finished before the actual storm and lightning got close enough to be a real danger, but the rules are the rules I guess. The official announcement that the game was over was made at about 8:45, cause I stayed until it was announced and I got back to my car just before 9:00. As Mac said, a district game would have been handled differently, also if the 2 schools had only been a 30 minute or so drive apart (like Mayfield and Marshall County) it probably would have been resumed the next day. FS had a game at Breckinridge Co. a few years ago that was postponed until Saturday morning because of the weather. I don't know if the team had already traveled up there on Friday night but I believe they had, but it was a district game and it had to be played.

  13. Hated to drive 3 and a half hours round-trip for one half of football. Good while it lasted. FS dominated the first quarter and a half, but Caldwell began to come back late in the second quarter after the 2 FS fumbles. FS run defense is stout, passing defense much improved. Caldwell's Burns is still good. Caldwell seemed to make some adjustments defensively also, would have been a good 2nd half. I admire Caldwell for scheduling so many teams in bigger classes.
  14. Hard to say how good FS is yet. Muhlenberg in the scrimmage and Portland didn't fare well at all against FS. The improvement of the line play on both sides and better tackling on defense have really caught my attention. Defense seems to be playing more aggressively, not lining up the corners 10 yards off the line as they have done so many times in recent years. More emphasis on the passing game is nice but it hasn't produced a whole lot yet. Pass protection seems to be greatly improved this year. Most teams FS will play can be beaten by FS ground game alone, but Caldwell is not one of those teams. I expect a high-scoring game, and I think this year not only will FS keep up with Caldwell but I predict an FS win 41-28.

  16. FS looks good so far but the competition gets much better next week at Caldwell Co. FS always has speed but this year they have size and improved line play on both sides of the ball.
  17. FS offense looked good in the scrimmage at Muhlenberg Co. Don't know much about Portland this year, but unless they have had a big increase in talent, I don't think FS will have much trouble against the Panthers. I'll guess FS 35-14.

  19. The only good reason I can think of for asking to play up in class is to make more money at the gate by potentially playing more traditional opponents, like when Highlands and CovCath are always changing classes at the same time. If schools are playing up to avoid tougher competition, they shouldn't be allowed to do that. A few years ago Russellville, with Class A enrollment, played in 3A for 4 years. They won their district all four years. In A, they would have been in district with Mayfield. In 2A, they would have been in district with Fort Campbell when they were on their last hot streak. I'm in favor of schools playing up for financial, but not competitive reasons.
  20. If most schools have 2-year home-and-away contracts with their opponents, wouldn't it be easier just to realign every 2 years and use the last 2-year enrollment figures? It would level the playing field quicker as far as the new schools who grow rapidly are concerned.
  21. FS had trouble with BC's 2-3 zone in the first half. BC led 21-14 at halftime and scored the first bucket of the 2nd half. FS then went on a 16-3 run over the next 4 minutes. FS lead got up to 6 before BC scored 5 straight including a banked-in 3 pointer at the buzzer to end the 3rd. FS outscored BC by 11 in the 4th. FS used its athleticism and swarming defense to keep BC from getting comfortable shots in the 2nd half. FS had a lot of trouble with foul shooting, don't know the final numbers but can't be good. BC is a good shooting team from 3 and FT's, but could not match up athletically with FS. BC's best inside player #32, I think his name was Driver, was in foul trouble much of the night and spent a lot of time on the bench. FS's Tavin Lovan was the best player on the court as he usually is, but he had considerable help from the rest of the team tonight, they are more than just Lovan.
  22. Enjoying this thread. Haven't seen any 4A schools mentioned, maybe someone is working on that. What about Franklin-Simpson? Maybe Penn State...couple of titles 30+ years ago, several runner-up finishes. Always seem to be pretty good with some talent, but not quite championship level nowadays.
  23. Just saw a commercial for Oxi Clean featuring the Franklin County Flyers. Didn't say what state but I am assuming it is Kentucky. Are their colors blue and yellow? Was that the coach doing the voiceover? Anybody else see the commercial? Nice uniforms, by the way. Very clean.
  24. Congrats to South Warren! At least it took the champs to put out FS. Looking forward to next season, maybe we can hang with you next year.
  25. FS worked on the passing game out of a spread offense a lot in practice this year, but rarely used it in games. The Warren Central game completely changed when FS went to the spread offense. I was hoping they would use it often the rest of the year, but they stuck with the wing-t. Then I thought, well, they are saving it for the rematch with SW in the playoffs. They had a little success with it, but I can't help but wonder how much better FS could have been this year with a spread offense. Wouldn't have been good enough to beat SW this year, but could have made it a little closer. They don't have to pass every play, and shouldn't. But there is a reason most of the successful teams in high school run a spread. IT WORKS. I think FS has the personnel to be very effective running a spread offense. When Coach Schlosser was here he ran a spread offense for several seasons, but still had to contend with BG in the district and didn't have a lot of talent some years, so there was only so far they could realistically go. They went to the wing-t his last few seasons, and had more success, partly due to better talent and partly due to BG going to 5A. There have been other years when they couldn't pass hardly at all and had to have a run based offense. FS has a lot of talent now and a better QB than he had the opportunity to show this year. I'm hoping next year FS will be more diverse on offense, balance is always better than being one-dimensional unless you are just so much more talented than anyone else, and FS is not. Spin, who do you think was the best 4A team the Spartans played against? My guess would be John Hardin or Johnson Central, maybe FS after those two.
