  1. Is Collins made up of just the kids in Shelbyville or is the county split evenly between the two schools?
  2. Thinking about some of the newer schools that haven't had decades of alumni to form a fan base...for BGP'ers such as Spinstopshere and Doubletake (South Warren fans), tommy2tone and blueandblack (Collins fans). Why are you fans of those schools? Are you young enough to have attended there? Did/do you have kids or other family who attend? Who did you root for before those schools were formed? I ask because I am impressed by the big fan followings I have seen from those 2 schools in particular...Collins brought a good crowd to Franklin for the semifinals in 2011 and I have been to SW twice and been impressed with their fans. Questions not limited to fans of those 2 schools but anybody interested.
  3. Now I can say...good job Purple on the rankings! I agree with your prediction for FS...should beat Madisonville but I don't know if we will beat Hoptown. If FS continues to be one-dimensional they will not beat any really good teams.
  4. I was curious about this too before the game so I checked the official KHSAA district standings last week and they already had City at 1-2 and County at 0-3 in the district. With that said, I think even if the first game was the one that counted, isn't that too early for a district game according to the scheduling grid?
  5. Allen Co.-Scottsville did not get the 2 seed in its district. They came in 3rd behind Franklin-Simpson, who beat Monroe Co. on the road and manhandled Russellville this week, but are not in the rankings.
  6. FS was fired up on Senior Night. Defense has played very well against the run ever since adjustments were made after the Greenwood game. FS with no pass attempts but caught 3 passes...by Russellville. Also recovered an early Panther fumble. QB Jackson Caudill scored on a run on 4th down on what looked like the only called pass play of the night after he was forced to scramble. Madisonville's visit to FS next week will be their 4th in 5 seasons in the playoffs. FS won in '11 and '13 while the Maroons won last year.
  7. 7-Madisonville 5-Breckinridge Co. 3-Franklin-Simpson 2-Barren Co. 1-Bardstown TB-Franklin-Simpson
  8. From reading the thread about the Ashland-Johnson Central game, it seems like Ashland can't pass and JC barely does, yet their fans seem to think that whoever wins their probable playoff rematch will beat SW in the championship game. If they can't pass, they don't have a chance of beating South Warren. If the Spartans stay healthy, they will be the 4A champs.
  9. As far as the tie breaker scenario goes, the only thing that is certain is that Warren Central cannot finish ahead of FS. WC has 3 points (1 from East and 2 from Meade Co., both of whom have finished their regular seasons) and can get 7 points if they beat Greenwood next week for a maximum possible of 10 points. FS already has 11 points (6 from Monroe Co., 3 from Portland,TN and 1 each from Warren East and Metcalfe Co.). Allen Co. already has 9 points (5 from Glasgow, 3 from Barren Co., and 1 from East). Central will finish ahead of AC-S only if WC beats Greenwood AND AC-S loses to Bardstown, AND Glasgow loses to E-town, AND Barren Co. loses to Edmonson Co. Bardstown has 5 wins, so if AC-S beats them they have at least 14 points. If FS loses, they would need Monroe to beat Wayne Co., Metcalfe to beat Caverna, and Portland to beat Macon Co. to get to 14 points and hope that Glasgow and Barren Co. both lose. Even then at 14 points apiece they would be tied and I think then it would revert back to head to head matchup which would give AC-S the edge. Bottom line, yes, FS is the 2 seed with a win over Russellville regardless of other outcomes since Russellville has 8 wins. If FS loses and AC-S wins AC-S will be the 2 seed. If both lose, FS would need either Glasgow or Barren to lose to claim the 2 seed or would need wins by Portland, Monroe or Metcalfe. Most people on here have probably heard how good East's RB Willie Reynolds is, but also keep an eye on their sophomore QB Satterfield. Both of them had some good runs last night, and Satterfield has good elusiveness and also made some good passes. Difference in the game was in the lines, as FS was dominant on both sides of the ball. If Reynolds and Satterfield could get some holes to run through, East would be a dangerous team.
  10. 7-Russellville 5-Mclean Co. 3-Apollo 2-Clay Co. 1-Barren Co. TB-Russellville
  11. 7-E-town 5-Monroe Co. 3-Christian Co. 2-Daviess Co. 1-Fort Knox TB-E-town
  12. DragonFire, thanks for the tiebreaker scenarios, I was going to look into that myself but you saved me the trouble. I can tell you exactly how FS was able to beat WC and not ACS tonight. It comes down largely to coaching malpractice. FS got nowhere last week against WC until they went to the shotgun and sped up the pace of play. They began to use their QB as the pass and run threat he truly is, and gave him and our skill players room to move as they had WC's defense spread out. That led to 3 straight TD drives. All of the TD's on those drives came out of the wing-t, but they moved the ball downfield quickly out of the gun and did not go back to the wing-t until they got to the red zone. On their last two drives last week, WC's defense was worn out and the running game was finally able to work. Tonight, the offense NEVER lined up in anything but the wing-t. Guess what folks, FS has the same three plays they run continually: sweep left, sweep right, run up the middle. ALL defenses know this so they put 9 men in the box. Then when FS tries to pass out of the wing-t, the QB has to roll out almost to the sideline and when he turns around to find a receiver, he is already under pressure because the defense was all in the box. FS did this ALL NIGHT LONG. Both times they took over possession with 2 minutes or so left in each half, did they run the shotgun as they did last week? Well, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Let's run our base 3 plays and kill the clock and any chance of winning the game. Then after the game the coach goes on the radio and blames the players for not having any emotion and said they've got to make plays when they are there to be made. Yes, the defense kept one ACS drive alive with a roughing the punter penalty, which ACS turned into a TD. Yes, FS had several holding penalties and they fumbled the ball once at the one yard line going in to score (which I think the runner had already crossed the plane) and they fumbled with 2 or 3 minutes left on a potential game winning drive. Yes, the boys didn't play their best game. But the same coach said on last week's postgame radio show that the South Warren game showed them that they were going to have to do something else to mix things up with their offense, they had just done that against WC and the coach then said that Allen County just won't know what we might line up in against them next week. Well, I was afraid I knew exactly what FS would do this week and I was right. I am so frustrated by all this. The young men of FS are going out and playing hard. They are the ones who are doing all the running, all the lifting, all the practicing, all the hard work. I am just a washed up old 40 something who loves to watch my Wildcats every Friday night, and hate it the other 9 months of the year when I don't have my game to go to. This team proved last week, that with the right scheme, which they obviously had been practicing, they can beat a very good team, which Warren Central still is in my opinion. WHY did the coaches not try to run at least a few plays out of the shotgun when it worked so well the previous week? Let's look at the possible excuses: 1-It was raining. Uh, don't tell Allen County that because they ran out of the shotgun the majority of the night. By the way, I admire the job ACS's Coach Hood did in this game. ACS tried to run at FS the first couple of drives and got nowhere. Did they continue to do the same thing all night that had already failed? NO! They lined up in shotgun and began to pass, then they lined up in wing-t and passed some more, and most of their offense and all their TDs were due to the passing attack. They recognized their own weakness and got away from that and played to their strengths. Simple concept, huh? 2-FS doesn't want all their shotgun plays on tape so that Hopkinsville or South Warren can see them all before possible playoff games. Well that excuse was thrown out last week when they did it against WC. 3-Well, I really can't come up with a good number 3 possibility, maybe because in my frustration my brain is fried. What was expected to be a really good season is turning out to be a major disappointment. It's not as if they have never ran the shotgun or practiced it. They have only given us FS fans a tantalizing taste of it for 3 drives against WC, and it was their best offensive showing of the year except for the Metcalfe County game, and it wouldn't have mattered what they ran in that game, they would have won handily. These games could have been so much more enjoyable for the fans, but more importantly for the players. You know, the young men that really matter in all this. Why did the team not have emotion tonight? Well, it was probably partly due to this game being played during fall break and the players were not in their usual routine this week. Could this not have been addressed when the schedule was made? Why are they playing this week? Most of the last several years FS has played on its fall break week, and it has usually been their worst performance of the year, and it has usually been against ACS. Who controls the scheduling? Not the players. What else could affect the players' emotion? Could it be that they were used to winning all their games in middle school and JV, and used to the coaches calling plays that played to their strengths, and therefore they were able to go out and have fun, winning with confidence? Could it be that the players know they are a better team than they are showing and it is not their fault, but rather the fault of the coaching staff who is pigeon-holing them into an offense that doesn't use their talents to their fullest extent? Could their QB be frustrated because for so many years growing up he WAS the offense, running and passing at will, with opponents usually unable to stop him, and now he is relegated to turning around and handing off the ball, and when he does get to throw, he has to roll out and when he turns around he has defenders all over him? Put him in the shotgun and he has time to look at his receivers and find them much quicker. Then, if there is no one open he can take off and run which he has done a few times this year with success. The talent and potential is there for this team to make some noise in the playoffs. I don't know if they could beat Hopkinsville or South Warren, but I know they can't without their best effort, both from the players and especially from the coaching staff. I have far more confidence in the players giving their best effort than I do with the coaching staff giving their best effort schematically. I know the coaches care about the team, they also put in hard work not only preparing for games but also teaching the students during the week and they sacrifice the time with their families doing so. I sincerely appreciate the effort by players and coaches. I'm not about to accuse the coaches of not caring about the kids or not wanting to win, because I don't believe that is the case. I'm just wondering why FS is not using all the weapons in its arsenal, weapons they have obviously trained to use but are not using? What are you waiting for? Let these young men play up to their full potential, stop holding them back to fit the scheme you prefer to run, and let them do what they do best. OK my rant is over and my headache is finally gone. I will say this also: Congratulations to Allen County-Scottsville, you won a game no one but you all expected to win. You did it with not only hard work but intelligence, running the plays that worked best for you. If you all do wind up with the 2 seed, here's hoping you all can finally beat Madisonville in the playoffs. FS may be looking at a LOOOONG trip to Calloway County in the first round.
  13. I like the big old concrete stadiums that are high enough that you can see over the top of the field as if you were watching it on TV. Places like here at Franklin-Simpson, Bowling Green, Russellville, Barren County, Monroe County. None of those schools except FS has separate visitors bleachers, but they reserve the far end of the stadium for the visitors. Fine with me, because at least I can sit up high. Been to too many places where the visitor bleachers only give you a view of your teams backs while they are on the sideline. As far as being unique, FS played at Russell County a few years ago and the football field there was also the outfield of the baseball diamond. Never had seen that before. Rash Stadium in Owensboro is a tough place for the opponent but is one of my favorite places to visit. Just over the state line at Portland, TN the railroad tracks run right behind the visitors side and there are usually at least one or two trains that come by during a game.
  14. Rhea Stadium in Russellville is my favorite place to go for a Franklin-Simpson road game. The rock wall all around the stadium, the kids playing on the hill at the end of the bleachers, and the hill in the corner of the north end zone. Special memory for me is when my wife went into labor there in 1998 at the end of the FS-Russellville game that year...at least the game was almost over by then. FS won 40-0, and my daughter wasn't born till Sunday.

  16. FS had played six and a half games with one hand tied behind its back. FINALLY they started throwing the ball and using their talented QB for more than just handoffs. If they hadn't, Central would have run away with this game. It was obvious that Central was wearing down in the fourth quarter because they had stopped the wing t the whole first half but when FS returned to it late the Dragons couldn't stop it. I didn't notice until late in the game how few players Central had dressed out. Only counted about 30-35 players. They gave a great effort against FS but I am sure they did not expect FS to throw it like they did. Glad to see this old rivalry renewed, I think it is tied 18-18 now. FS won I think the first 12 games back in the day so the wins over Central have been scarce lately.
  17. Does anyone know if he is related to the Litten family that owns Southern Lanes in Bowling Green?
  18. FS defense is playing much better lately but I don't know if the offense will score enough to beat Central. I will pick FS 14-13 but it feels like a toss-up either way.
  19. 7-Owensboro 5-Glasgow 3-Adair Co. 2-Allen Co. 1- Franklin-Simpson TB-Adair Co.
  20. FS defense played best game yet. Seems like SW's QB Litten was very limited as he didn't keep the ball on any runs except for the late TD after a dropped snap. SW passing game not very good tonight. FS defense stuffed many SW runs for short or no gain. Problem was when Namvong did get through the line he was usually gone. All SW scores but one set up by blocked or short punts. SW defense as good as advertised. FS tried its same 3 running plays over and over and over and over again with the same predictable results. I remember FS getting 2 first downs the whole game. FS did try a few passes out of the wing t but little success. SW has a championship caliber defense but its offense will probably not be good enough unless Litten is able to be the run threat that he was against John Hardin.
  21. 7- Russellville 5-Barren Co. 3-Logan Co. 2-Todd Co. 1-North Hardin TB-Russellville
  22. Monroe had a long pass just off the fingertips of one receiver that would have been a TD and had another pass caught on the end line that was called incomplete. Looked like the right call but was really close. FS jumped offside on a 4th and 4 then Monroe had a TD pass on the next play on what looked like a blown coverage. Monroe QB Arnett was really good but it seemed they relied too much on the pass. First drive of the game Monroe had 1st and goal at the 5 and rolled out to pass which was intercepted. 4 running plays probably gets them a TD there. Don't think Monroe will lose many games at all in 2A. I think they beat Glasgow for the district but probably fall to DeSales in the region final. Kudos to the Falcons for playing a tough schedule...BG, FS, North Hardin and finishing with Wayne Co. Good luck to Monroe the rest of the way.
  23. FS made some defensive adjustments this week and the run defense was excellent. Monroe has a good passing game. FS is too one dimensional to beat a team like SW. I like the wing t but you have to have more than three plays to be successful unless you have a lot of Trinity type talent. FS has a really good QB whose talents are largely being wasted. FS ran one series out of a shotgun in their scrimmage and looked great. Haven't seen it since except for the last 40 seconds of one game. Hope they are saving it for South Warren but we will see.
