West has a physical athletic team with some good shooters, plus the best Big guy in the region in Ben Jordan. I have no doubt that they are better than Rowan, I don't think this is an upset. Team still only starts one senior I think, maybe two.

16th Region Weekly Football season is officially over now, and congratulations to all the state champions on fantastic seasons! However, now it's time for some basketball and the first weekly preview of the 16th region! This week there was some movement but nothing major. We do have a new number one but Morgan and Elliott are more like a 1A 1B, the Cougars got the nod this week due to their 3 region victories. Greenup had a very impressive victory against Johnson Central, the 3 time defending 15th region champions. Also Rose Hill picked up their first win since January of 2014. Weekly Rankings 1. Morgan County- Morgan picked up three region wins against Bath, Raceland, and Fleming to begin their year. Jordan Perry scored 32, 25, and 39 in those games to lead the Cougars to take the number one ranking this week. 2. Elliott County- The Lions picked up a win over district foe East Carter to begin their season, but lost a game by 15 to a state title favorite in Bullitt East. Chase Porter and Korbin Spencer both had 19 in the game against East Carter. 3. Greenup County- The Musketeers picked up a huge 74-40 win over 15th Region three time defending champion Johnson Central to kick off their season, and followed up with a quality win over a Russell team. Greenup spreads the ball around having 5 different players in double figures in the Johnson Central game and 4 different players in the Russell game. 4. Rowan County- Rowan split their games this week, losing a close game to Montgomery County 60-62 and blowing out Bath County 75-40. Antrobus found more of a touch in his second game with the Vikings but so far Larry Whelan and big man Conner Thomas have paced the Vikings in scoring. 5. West Carter- The Comets climb to the 5 spot after Ben Jordanless victories over Russell and Fairview to being their season. The Comets needed OT to get past the Red Devils but outscored them 15-3 in the overtime period to win. Dalton Brown scored 27 that game, including 5 triples one being a 4 point play. Jordan will be available to play next game. 6. Boyd County- The Lions opened up the season with a disappointing 23 point loss to Chesapeake (OH), but maintain only fall one spot after they pick up a 15 point win over rival Ashland. 7. Ashland- The Tomcats lost to Boyd this week but did pick up a win over Lewis County. Christian Villers had 23 points in the victory against Lewis. 8. East Carter- The Raiders, much like the Tomcats, pulled out a win against Lewis County. But the Raiders played both Lawrence and Elliott close and looked more impressive than expected. 9. Lewis- The Lions picked up a win over Fairview in week one but dropped games to East Carter and Ashland to begin their season. 10. Russell- The Red Devils didn’t pick up a win but took West Carter to OT, and Greenup to a single digit score game. 11. Fleming- The Panthers also come out winless, but losses against LexCath and Morgan County aren’t bad losses. The Panthers looked impressive against Morgan. 12. Fairview- Fairview loses to West Carter and Lewis, but picks up a win against Menifee. 13. Raceland- Raceland kicked off their season beating down Menifee 76-26, only to get beat by Morgan County 45-65 14. Bath County- Picked up a win against Nicholas to start the season but lost big to Morgan and Rowan. 15. Rose Hill- The Royals picked up their first win since January 14th, 2014. 69-50 over Riverside Christian. They lost the other three games they played this week, but the win was good enough to put them a spot ahead of.. 16. Menifee- Losses to Raceland, Wolfe County, and Fairview this week put Menifee down to the bottom of the 16th region. Player Of The Week- Jordan Perry (Morgan County)- Perry put up three very solid shooting games to start the season. Scoring 32, 25, and 39 against Bath, Raceland, and Fleming. The 39 point game he drained 6 three pointers to lead the Cougars to an 81-74 point victory. GAMES TO WATCH The EKC tournament will be wrapped up this week. East Carter will take on Morgan County Tuesday the 8th at 7:30 P.M at West Carter. The Boyd County Roundball Classic will be Friday and Saturday. Elliott County will play Boyd County in a 16th Region tournament first round rematch at 6 P.M on Friday. Saturday Ashland will play Ripley (WV), East Carter will play Pikeville at 4:30, and Boyd will take on Lawrence at 9 PM. Morgan County will head to Olive Hill to play West Carter on the 12th at 7:30 Fairview will head to Elliott County and play the Lions on the 8th at 7:30

Watched his Hudl film earlier in the year and was wowed. I can see him as a slot receiver for the Cats, but he's a heck of an athlete

Can't get away with as much, but the 62nd district games that I attend (East-West, East-Elliott, East-Morgan, and Elliott-Morgan) all seem to be good rivalries if both teams are good. But I thinks a lot of it plays into sportsmanship and kids are preached to be respectful and such, not a bad problem to have. Decreasing school pride could play a role too.

Ahh I understand, it's the same way without a lot of rivalries now though. I thought he meant one sided in favor of the Tomcats, I didn't know we were talking rivalry intensity. I've heard stories about the games back then.

I have saw some tweets from some players and I don't know if they're directed towards Kash, but I'm assuming so. however I do not recommend searching the hashtag railed on Twitter.

Congrats Pikeville! Remember seeing threads all year saying the East didn't matter because Beechwood, but congrats to Beechwood as well for making it there! Listened to this one and it sounded really good. Pugh must be a monster. Still upset they charged this year for the stream

Would love to see Elliott play them tough and make it a game, haven't saw Bullitt East but if they are title contenders then it will be likely what will be witnessed when any 16th region team plays a solid Louisville team
