I'm pretty sure SK imported the Ballard boys statistician... last year Ballard boys registered assists at an unbelievable 95% clip.

Makes you view the state assist leader board a little differently when you add the overall assist ration (total A / total goals): Layne Cutler - 27 assists Bullitt East: 57% A/G Jordan Stallings - 27 Nelson County: 70% A/G Annabel Moore - 24 assists Owensboro Catholic: 100% A/G Abigail Zoeller - 24 assists Simon Kenton: 99% A/G Angie Reyes - 24 assists Warren Central: 60% A/G What's more egregious: leaving a player in a blow-out game to pad stats or giving them credit for phantom assists? And how do you decide who to give a phantom assist to? Closest relative to the ball?

Snow has GPS or RFID technology in his boots that help team mates locate him... just saying.

Congrats to Conner on a great season. In the last 3 years Conner's ending Maher Rank has gone from 94 -> 81-> 40, while season wins have gone from 7 -> 9 -> 11. No doubt led by a really nice group of seniors this year. Anyone know if Charlie Wend has made any decisions about playing in college? I'm sure there are some programs interested. Doesn't hurt that he's got a nice sized frame and could probably be moved to different positions if needed (if not playing up top he'd make a pretty solid center back IMO).

#30 Lexington Catholic gets past #10 Tates Creek. 4-2 in PKs after 1-1 tie at end of regulation and overtime. Lexington Catholic plays Dunbar Thursday 10/15 for District Champ. Dunbar is looking for its 6th straight District Championship.

Lechter County Central loses 10-0 to Perry County Central in District 53 final. Should have saved a few of those goals from the Buckhorn game.

OPOY seems like one that really could come down to a tie-breaker. Based on number of goals/assists, percent contribution to offense, and considering quality of opponents I'd be deciding between Adam Snow and DJ Sanders. I'd give the nod to Snow based on how enjoyable he is to watch play and the number of shockingly good goals I've seen him score. What a great year for goalscorers in NKY with Snow, Sanders, Litzler, Day, Wend, Geiman, Leffler, and others. As easy as it is to identify individual attacking players, identifying a single, clear stand-out defender is harder. No doubt CCH has a great defensive unit this year, but I'd be hard pressed to name one individual over the others. Does the defender with the most votes become the DPOY or do coaches nominate/vote for this honor separately?

Did nominations and voting take place this past weekend or is that next weekend? I know it's before Regionals.

#7 is Kerry Nolasco and he is indeed a very nice player... nice kid too. Holmes has played him in midfield a fair amount, but I think he is most dangerous/helpful when he plays up top.

OK. That makes more sense. Because I know a number of the NCC boys and I know they're looking to extend their season as long as possible, however improbable that may seem to outsiders. I know several other HS teams that will take the same approach. It really is a matter of character and that is something that's difficult to generalize about.

^ No, I meant why would you say that specifically in reference to NCC? Or are you listing the reasons above in specific reference to NCC? Just curious, because it sounds from others' description of the game like it was a well fought match on both sides. And I know NCC always gets up for the post-season, which is right around the corner. So do you have some specific insight about NCC or was that just kind of a poking at NCC? It's OK if you were just poking at NCC. You don't have to back off or hand waive it away. Happens on here all the time.

St X beat #3 Oldham County last night 4-3 playing 21 players in the game. How deep is St X? On roster = 29 Played in 12+ games = 26 Players with goals = 19 Players with assists = 16 St X has Brown (Maher Rank 150+) in the first game of Districts on Tuesday so you'd think they take their normal approach to the game versus St Henry. St X has only lost twice to KY teams this season: 3-0 to Central Hardin the first game of the season and 2-1 last week to Trinity. I'd give St X the edge, but would love to see St Henry come home with a win (or even a tie).

Paul Grosser had a 36 on his ACT and was Salutorian at NCC, but if you ask anyone who saw the Region 9 semi-final in 2013 he was just good at guessing right.

I think this whole controversy was settled back in the 70s and 80s during the Superstars competition on network TV. The football players regularly won the competition with Kyle Rote Jr. the only soccer player to win it (several times). Granted Kyle Rote, Jr. may have been the only soccer player entered and he was, in truth, a converted football player, but that's not important. Someone should sponsor a NKY HS Superstars competition as a fundraiser. I bet you could sell out a stadium for THAT event.
