  1. Very nice! You originally said "side-volley" I think and I had a different mental image. That looks like a half-volley catching the ball on the short hop just as it comes off the ground. A lot of finesse and composure to get the ball to bend/dip like that with a half volley on the turn! Glad the boy will be around to watch again next year!
  2. I had flashbacks to college when I saw rhat happen. I had a team mate whose shoulder would pop with just the right contact (originally a hockey injury). Got to the point where he could have one of us hold his arm steady while he forced it back in place. Very painful and the more it happens the more likely it is to happen again. He finally got it operated on after college because it kept popping out playing pickup basketball. He may well be able to play again pretty quickly, but please lake care of that shoulder young man!
  3. A college coach's presence at a HS game is IMO mostly to communicate interest to a particular player... everyone wants to feel wanted. That's the type of intangible (like a good overnight visit at the school) that can influence a kid to choose one school over another.
  4. I hope no-one who is complaining about having to walk too far from their parking spot at Dixie purchased the fried Oreo basket at the concession stand.
  5. We all know that playing tough competition helps prepare for states. According to Maher South Oldham played the toughest slate of KY opponents in the state this year. Going into the game, Oldham County had allowed 33 goals (39 at the end of the game). Having seen them twice already this year it looks like South Oldham had Oldham County figured out. South Oldham has also already seen both Trinity (0-2 L) and St X (1-2 L). The Region 7 winner will no doubt be favored, but they'll have to travel to South Oldham to punch their ticket to the quarterfinals. Region 7/8 winner faces the Region 9/10 winner in the quarterfinals. Should be interesting. Go Northern KY!
  6. South Oldham was only five spots below Oldham County in the Maher Rankings. South Oldham has also won their Region 3 out of the past 4 years. They seem to know how to get it done this time of year, so I'm not all that surprised that they won. I'd just be curious if Oldham County went behind and ended up chasing the game to continue to fall further and further behind?
  7. Holy smokes. Didn't see that coming. Anyone see or hear anything from the Region 8 Championship game? South Oldham gets the St X/Trinity winner in the next round.
  8. Ryle and Dixie went at each other pretty hard all night in terms of attacking soccer. Very exciting game to watch. I thought Dixie played better and more connected soccer than I've seen them play prior this year. Dixie keeper Simon Yeager had a great game in goal coming up with a lot of key saves. Ryle had a deeper, more complete team and the end result was probably fair, but hats off to Dixie. They most certainly did not "park the bus." At times in the second half it was attack at one end followed by strong attack going back the other way. Great job both teams. Good luck to Ryle Saturday. Hoping for a Region 9 finals that prepares the team that moves on for a deep run in states
  9. CCH still didn't look sharp against Cooper. Best part of their game was shutting down Snow and maybe that was the key to ensuring they got past Cooper. Not a very good soccer game to watch, really. Hopefully CCH and Ryle raise their play Saturday and the winner is able to maintain elevated level of play for a deep run in states.
  10. It's a balance that a majority of schools have to strike. And even those few schools with excess players who play club soccer have to make some judgments about who can help this year versus who has more long-term development potential.
  11. The thing about BGP is that so much of the facts upon which people's opinions are formed are fundamentally flawed... It's Blades of Glory... and "people laughed at Louis Armstrong when... moon..." Goodness grief, GTS (Google That Stuff).
  12. Campbell County started the season 4-8-2 but has gone 5-1 in their last six outings. If they are starting to come together that could give MoCo a good game. I'm confident Camels can net a couple (Augspurger is good for at least one and Schneider or Perkins for another). The challenge will be holding MoCo to less than 2. Shkrabba and Caswell Fuller each average more than one goal per game, but from all reports the field may take away some of what Fuller can do on the dribble with the ball. I'd like to go with Campbell County, but I think MoCo wins in a 4-2 slugfest.
  13. Goals for Dixie by Stacey and Sang (assists both to Rivera). Goals for NCC by Anderson and Hoover.
  14. Heck of a player also. Is Drew playing in the back this year or has he been seeing time in midfield?
  15. Greg Fischer (Trinity) Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville. Fischer now has 15 goals and 26 assists and has a goal or assist in every game Trinity has played this year except their 1-0 loss to Male (which is there only loss thus far this season).
  16. CCH could use an OPOY-type player to combine up top with Litzler. It would be great to have a tandem who'd been playing together since u-littles. Oh wait...
  17. I'd say a combination. It took everything HHS had, plus a little luck, plus poor finishing on the part of CCH for the game to get to PKs.
  18. In the Dixie/NCC game alone Maher didn't get a single pick right... That's a 0.000 batting average (if my math is right).
  19. NCC did well this season given the players they lost from last year. The several times I saw them play the thing that impressed me most was their spirit and determination. The seniors can take solace knowing that those character traits will serve them well beyond the soccer field. Good luck to any remaining "weak, slow, unskilled teams" that NCC played throughout the regular season!
  20. Congrats to Dixie. They get to return to home comforts to face Ryle on Thursday. Should give them a nice bump coming off a come from behind victory over NCC.
  21. Snow is such a pleasure to watch. Glad I can see him play Thursday.
  22. I'd give MoCo the advantage, but the x-factor is which Campbell County team shows up.
