With BW’s very weak district and and a repeat of play up teams having unforeseen bad seasons coupled with an out of state game, perfect recipe for the potential for one home playoff game in 2026.

Agree Mayfield was a great team. BW tried to win it in the air..425 yards and abandoned the ground game when they early on found resistance. BW stopped every Mayfield runner (total of -6 rushing yards) except Starks and he was a man out there for 225 yards. Shortest distance is 325 miles thru Louisville. My body requires one stop for that long and maybe a bus can do it legally in 5+ hours, pending traffic. As far as playing an out of state elite like Elder or St. X……don’t do it.

A great but exhausted Beechwood Tigers team with 150 more yards of offense was beat in the last minute 31-28 by the powerful run by Starks. BW might have been the fresher team if Mayfield had made the 6 hour bus ride. Used the word might not to diminish Mayfield’s semi-final win over BW or their classic 5 pt championship over OCath. They very much deserved their championship. Just saying RPI and direction of 6 hour bus ride is annually huge.

Also, hard to argue that 2023 season opening win against a very good McNicholas might have cost the Tigers a state championship.

Valid points, but plenty of NKy programs to accomplish the same…I.e .Highlands, Cooper, Ryle and they all bring RPI bonus with a W instead of an out of state RPI penalty.

Isn’t there some rule about withdrawing the week of the game? Such a shame to see a once great small school program at such a low state. Wasn’t Danville almost there recently?

The order is OC, LCA, Mayfield, Belfry, BW. BW can only move up to 4 unless there are unlikely upsets early.

Until RPI corrections are made, I hope Coach Volker does not knowingly set the Tigers up for one of those 6 hour playoff trips in 2026. Weak 6 team District plus out of state game equals 2023 season rinse and repeat.

Trip to LCA best distance for either Belfry or Beechwood whichever is #4 RPI; but it will take a LCA home win over Mayfield in 3rd round. If Mayfield beats LCA one will go to Mayfield, the other to OC.

Greg Hergott, Beechwood Tigers’ OC for 15+(?) years cannot be given enough accolades for the machine he and the staff have built and maintained. The critical role he so successfully has played is greatly recognized and appreciated.

Even went to NFHS site to see the rule, penalty…clearly states 5 yard penalty, no loss of down from previous spot.

Looking forward to the broadcast. As a former band parent and grandparent I was curious to research Central’s band and found it does not participate in KMEA (equivalent to KHSAA in sports) band competitions in 2025. Their halftime shows are their times to shine versus most Ky high school bands view ballgames very secondary to their Saturday band competitions. The point being that Central’s band director probably sees the football team as competition for attention rather than adding to the total package. Administration has the sole responsibility to make sure the kids play nice in the sandbox and no 15 yard penalties for throwing sand in the coach’s face.

Thanks for clarification, but thought the spot was where he was downfield, not where he advanced the ball after the catch? Just did a google search and the high school rule seems to state the penalty shall be from the previous spot, not spot file.

Do we make the same argument for Ky HS basketball, baseball, tennis, track, wrestling, band and every other competition teams?

So, Bowling Green (back to back state champions) would be in a must win this Friday to make your playoff scenario. Period.
