Scott brings home the NAS Holiday Classic Trophy with a win over a very good Collins team. Defense made the difference in this game as Collins top players were held to just under 20 pets. Combined. Scott All-Tournament Jenna Trempe, Holly Kallmeyer, Lexi Stapleton and Anna Clephane Collins All-Tournament Zantasha King, Michelle Roberts, Mary Borders As a side note con rats to Jenna Trempe on getting her 1000th point.

Didn't see the game, but it was definitely McLendon I saw hobbling accross the parking lot. She look really sore more than injured but wasnt sure. Wow, Turner got hurt also? Any know how bad?

Saw McLendon walking out with both knees and an ankle wrapped with ice. Did she get banged up or just typical post game soreness/prevention?

To that I would add what I call: 3. The dual possession foul that IMO should be called a jump ball and quickly for safety and negative game impact. 4. The lose ball foul when both girls get to the ball at the same time and possession has not been established by either.

Taking the Eagles of course in a game that should be a good one to watch as both teams are playing well and seam to not be slowing down from last years successes inspite of graduations and transfers. Good luck to both.

I disagree with this sweeping generalization.

Basketball is a contact sport.....plain and simple!!!! A defender has as much right to defend her territory on the court as the offender has to try and get by...let them play. But control the contact to a point of safety. If contact jeopardizes the safety of player call the foul. If not play on.

I personally like the physical play by the girls. I think it makes for a better game to watch and trully favors the stronger players by allowing them to perform dynamically and aggressively (something we like about the boys games). I believe they need to let them play....to a point! I like the use of a jump ball call over a foul call especially in loose ball situations or tie ups because in the end they don't penalize players for going after the ball and as girls are tussling for control it does not penalize the weaker player. But the most important aspect of the role of the ref is consistency. Not just in a game but from game to game. Already this season I've seen games called tight that saw key players taken out of the game because of foul trouble and loose games change to tight games that had everybody guessing how to play. Refs will always argue that girls need to learn to play defense and fans will say refs need to learn how to let the girls play. I think a resolution is somewhere in the middle. Me personally I love girls games far more than boys games as spectator and coach. Yes there are definite differences and a ref should be versed in the differences and prepared to call the game accordingly. Otherwise they risk inserting themselves into the game and directly impacting the outcome.

Not sure I would phrase it that way. But definitely a tale of two halves. 1st half saw Brossart pack the box running a 3-2 defense that made it difficult for the Lady Eagles to get to the basket. Unfortunately, shots from the perimeter were not dropping either. In the 2nd half Brossart's post players seemed to fatigue a little allowing Scott to snag a few more rebound put backs. In addition Scott's perimeter shooting came back around and the tide turned. Once Scott was in the lead Brossart was forced into man defense as well as fouling as time ticked down allowing Scott to pull away.

Actually scoring 80 in football is much harder to do. As you can probably count on one hand the number of times a team has scored 80 pts in a game at all levels in probably the last 10 years. However, 90 or 100 in basketball happens many times each year ant many levels. But the real question is this: As a coach and Brianna Adler is having a career night on her way to 20 would you honestly tell her to stop playing defense? To just stand in a zone and be a road block to anyone who would enter the lane? Now the opponent throws up a shot should she not get the rebound? And what should she do? Lazily walk it up the court and pass it around? Forgoing every chance to go in for the layup and wait to shoot the jumper? Should the sub say Zoie Barth, that comes in for Adler play down to the competition as well? Forgoing all opportunities for her demonstrate her skills to her team her coach and her parents? If you answer yes then we shall agree that we have different coaching styles and that it is OK for each of us to have differing point of view. On the flip side if you even have to hesitate to think about how you would ask Adler to hold back as well ask Barth to hold back as well, then it just becomes a matter of points. How much is too much? Is it 30? Is it 50?

Agreed RC. And mind you I don't have a dog in this fight. However, what is more embarrassing and a waste of time to watch? Superior athletes play keep away from little kids for 32 minutes or to watch players play To start, I didn't read into the first post that they were bragging merely reporting the score. If they were bragging then shame on them. 2nd, many have posted how absurd the score was, but I didn't see any of those comments when Scott beat Calvary 63-7, or when they beat Silver Grove last year 83-18 and certainly not when SK beat Scott last year 83-38 with starters in most of that game. So is it just because its Holmes? If so then shame on those that feel that way. I also saw on here a comparison drawn between football. Sorry, its not different. Getting beaten by a ton whether boy/girl/football/basketball/chess or basket weaving sucks. Now I am not a big fan of running up the score. However, you have to let players play. As a parent I pay my fees and my price of admission to see my kid play and contribute. Not sit the bench. As a coach I am always evaluating my players and helping them develope skills which is best tested at first in easier circumstances and perfected against stiffer competition. Two things that stick out to me. One..... the starters only had 69 of the 105 so the subs had the rest. And to me you shouldn't hold the subs back because this is a great time for them to get improvement through court time as well. Two..... I guarantee the coach didn't set out to score 100pts at the beginning of the game. If he had then apparently the score would have been 100 at the half. More than likely though he may have looked at both teams and been aware that he had more talent but, you can never know trully know how much more until the game is played. That said scoring as fast as they were it was probably out of hand before he even realized it. Now before anyone gets upset at my comments, let it be known I am neither condemning nor condoning anything about this game. These are kids on both sides that become stronger through adversity (even this big) and are entitled to play their best (also even this big). Best of luck to both teams as the season moves on.

Sorry, didn't want to let emotions overload my mouth and in turn my backside..... That said this was a slug fest (shot for shot, not dirty play) that saw the Eagles jump out early and stretch a lead out to 13 at one point. However foul trouble kept key players of the court for the Lady Eagles allowing Boone to creep back up and make it close at the half. The second half was much of the same. Solid, physical, and quick defense by both teams and again slugging it out shot for shot with Boone taking the lead 46-44 at the end of the 3rd on a last second buzzer beater. The 4th qtr. was tough to watch as Kallmeyer and Clephane fouled out early on "questionable" (politely appropriate after seeing the video) calls. That said proving the depth of the Lady Eagles they were able to keep fighting and despite being down as much as 5 with time running out were able to close it up and make a solid run at the end. 10 more seconds and this game may have been in overtime. Foul trouble, questionable calls, boisterous fans and all the other things aside this was a great game between 2 very tough teams that if played 50 times would probably be evenly split with neither team winning by more than 5or 6pts. Hats off to the Lady Rebels on a great game and good luck the rest of the season. As a side note coolest picture I have of this game is the opening tip where Kallmeyer out jumps Switzer by 8-12 inches to win the tip.

A little surprised Dixie polled higher than Scott as the comparable game between them (Bourbon Co.) saw Dixie win by a couple and allow Sims to rack up 30. Scott held Sims to 7pts. and won by 30.

And they are fun to watch.

I disagree. While they lose a lot to graduation, they also have some very good young talent coming up. Soph. Barrett has a lot of speed, and current freshman class, O-Line and D-Line in particular has a lot of size. Next year will be tough as they will rely on a lot of young talent, but the following year could be very interesting.

Dixie moves to 5A, which begs the question if this had happened a year earlier would the Colonels be celebrating a championship?

Lady Eagles advance to 3-0 with a big win over a team they struggled with last year. Once again another solid team effort highlighted by a smothering defense that saw Anna Clephane and Holly Kallmeyer play shut down "tag team" defense on Bourbon Co.'s key players, Asia Sims and Chariss Wilson. Lexi Stapleton, Jenna Trempe, Madi Meyer and Megan Brennan also played great defense and dropped several from long range. JV squad played almost the entire 4th qtr.

Congrats to the Colonels on a great season. And to the Senior leadership on this team, it has been an amazing 4 year run!!!

2 weeks ago I would have said the veteran group at Ryle with their size combined with the youth albeit very athletic youth and inexperience at Mason Co. would have been a disaster for the Lady Royals. Now after both teams have played I have to rethink it all. For now I'll call it a coin flip not because I think it will be a close game but because I really don't know which way to go on this one. Will the Lady Raiders rebound from the bad loss to SK or will the Lady Royals prove that their inexperience easily overcome by their athleticism.....like I said coin flip. Wish I could watch this one first hand. Should be a great game!!!
