Does it really matter who's #1, #2, #3, #4, #5??? Seriously though, do we see any other programs in the 4A that can sneak up on those top 5? I think not. " WE ALL KNOW " that the 4A state champ will be one of the top 5 that were mentioned.

Russell County had their best shot last season and the season before. They ran into Boyle Co and Lex Cath 2nd round. Talent wise those were the season to do it but fell short. It will be down and out for a few yrs. Ashland has that talented RB and from what I hear, that is all. Hope for a healthy season for him.

Agree!!! Until someone other programs steps up and goes deep in the playoffs CONSISTANLY year in and year out, the first 5 programs you mentioned are a shoe in. The rest will to have to take a back seat and watch.

Michigan State, Rose Bowl Champs/ Big 10 Champs in past years vs. UK? Come on man... LOL! UK is like the black hole. Local or in state kids gets lost when they enter the field at UK. Name one in state player that really EXCELLED at UK?

My point is that last season, Lex Cath had 2 GO TO receivers. Knights needed a big play or long pass, they go to Letton. When the Knights needed a possession, short yardage or needed a 1st down, they went to Bouiver. No other receivers were a factor. They had no TE and the Brownell kid you mention was just an average who had many drops. What im saying this season, they have more to spread the wealth around. No 1 or 2 top guns. Hatton, Hickey, Thompson twins, JJ, Jones, Carter, Couch, Herrington... I have also seen some freshman skill players that played JV last season that can make an impact ( Pedroche & Buchignani ). Also keep an eye out for an O'neil kid at receiver. He's a Lex Cath baseball player who has relatives on the team. He played youth and middle school football with my godson. Excellent athlete.

I maybe bias just because I'm a LexCath fan, but this upcoming season will be a great one for the Knights. More experience and better depth on the line. Deeper and more choices at the receiver position and the beast Jaylen Jones and Carter Gray at RB. Ryan returns at the QB spot and return/ experience at the LB with tons of talented JV players that saw tons of playing time last season.

With all do respect Sir, I have come to love and follow Lex Catholic. I live behind the campus and have become a huge fan of their athletic program for the last 15 years. I love the mini rivaly in the playoffs that they have with FT Highlands for the last 3 season. I always envy what the Birds have done with their successful program... Class Act. " Just do it on the field ". Where other programs " Just Talk ". Successful programs do not talk about their accomplishment, they just go out and do it. Thats why programs like Cov Cath, Lex Cath, FT Highlands, Scott Co, St X. Trinity, Belfry, Mayfield, Bowling Green are successful year in and year out..... Sorry if I left other programs out.

Is it safe to say that Sam Letton is gone as well?

Wow that's a big deal. Does FT Highlands have any other player(s) has that kind of caliber to replace him?

Stay healthy, have good stats for the season and stay out of trouble... He will be a good addition at the next level.

I say an 8-2 or 10-0 season. Reason I say that cause they are DEEPER in the skills position and definitely deep on the both side of the line. A handfull of athletic baseball and lacrosse players are coming out and will bolster the roster.

Experience line on both side, but I don't think they have enough skill set to replace Nelson. He was a do it all player. I say 60% or more of their offense came from him. Who is the QB and RB? That was the issue last season.

Not sure about other school district, but with Fayette Co you sure can. A student- athlete can go to a school that is not a feeder from middle to HS. ie ( Tates Creek can enroll at Lafayette ) for their engineering or band specialty. As far as public middle school to a private HS or vice versa, they can play freshman and JV only. It's a public/ private agreement here in Fayette Co. which make no sense. Let they pick which HS to attend. Why punish a student- athlete by attending a school.

Agreed, but what I meant by off season is when your team is out of the playoffs and the off lifting and conditioning begins, which is around after the kids gets back from Xmas break to the time that of dead period. Unless your playing another sports in the winter and spring, make it mandatory for the kids to come out and get bigger, faster, and shed some flub. OK maybe not mandatory but HIGHLY suggested. Which we all know that kids still will not attend, right????

I begg to differ on the teams having a greater conditioning program vs the ones who don't. Give you one GREAT example. Johnson Central was a BEAST last season. Big boys along the line, but not cardio balanced. Cov Catholic came rolling into with their small, quicker but athletic team and ran circle around the tired bigs. I can give you FT Highlands, Boyle Co, John Hardin example as well. We can level the field by " it's not about how bad you want it, it's about how HARD you're willing to work for it".

How come Boyle Co, FT Highlands, Belfry, Lou Central, Collins, Bowling Green, Simon Kenton, Scott County, Mayfield, Paducah Thighman can do it? All from different school district, all public schools, all consistant winners year in and year out. ALL have great coaches/ asst coaches. It's not impossible if you invest on the program and buy into the system.

AMEN brother. Well said! I totally agree. It's how you sorround your program. Better position coaches, strenght and conditioning coach, make it MANDATORY for players to lift on and off season. So MANY programs I know do not implement that and those are the teams that ususally whine.
