Is there a bias against NKY teams down state?
munoz replied to tark the shark's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
That's an old football term. Your showing your age there. You used to have a 4A Louisville Champ a State at Large Champ and they played each other for the overall state champ. -
Three Northern Kentucky teams at Rupp?
munoz replied to gchs_uk9's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Also in basketball it only takes a few really good players to get you pretty far in the tournament so you don't have to be big to be succesful in basketball. Just see the results of the Mason County Augusta game the last two years. -
Griffith not Griffin.

Unfortunate because I hear it was the Superintendent that hung out the Head Coach, AD/Principal out to dry. Doesn't seem right that he keeps his job and others can not. Anyone really surprised by this? Didn't they stay in house with their coaching hire too?

Campbell County/Scott predictions - 2/26
munoz replied to Randy Parker's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Disagree with the playing well statement. Went 2-3 in their last 5. Camels have been kind of hit and miss lately. Scott is the scary one after a one point game with the best team in the district, Brossart. Scott has also kind of had Campbell's number the last few years in the district tournament. Butr the Campbell won by 18 in the regular season so who knows. Tough one to pick as others have stated. -
Being a high school coach is not all its cracked up to be anymore. About the only big positive still is being able to have a positive effect on a young man's life. Each year it becomes increasingly more difficult to manage everything that comes with a program. Too much time, too many unrealistic expectations of parents, players administrators and fans, too much fundraising, too little family life of your own, etc. One of the things that really bothers me today is how high school coaches are treated like college or pro coaches in that they are expected to win now and win every year. There are just way too many variables, particularly for public school coaches, to control on the high school level. I think if you run a program that does things the right way, have a positive effect on young men and the community, are a positive force in your classroom and school, and win when you have the Johnny's and Joe's capable of winning that should be enough. God forbid you have a couple tough year's when your perceived Johnny's and Joe's are really more like Susan's and Sally's, or a disgruntled parent says crap an administrator is to afraid to back their coaches. At least high school football doesn't have to deal with all that and AAU and select team BS. I'll shut up now...

Wasn't this rumored to be going to happen last season too?

Who do you think is going to want to move up to 6A? 5A would be good for Boone if someone wants to play up.

I don't care how good a coach you are. You still have to have some players. The key in public schools is to have the right coach and staff in place to do something with the talent when it comes through.

The only difference between a preferred walk on and a regular walkon is when they can report to practice. A preferred walkon can report with the rest of the team. A regular walkon has to wait till school starts. They can only bring in 105 players to camp which includes 85 scholarship players. When school starts i believe they can dress for practice as many as want. Its completely possible he is a regular walkon the first year then be part of the 85/105 difference after that if hw sticks with it. -
You are right. The KHSAA won in his case too. They made the finals but the KHSAA won.

Can you say Mike Mitchell?:sssh:

Mike Engler is the new football coach at Ryle!
munoz replied to theguru's topic in KY Football (High School)
Funny, I have heard the same thing about the coach at Boone. Kind of surprised. Not all is as it seemed during the interview process. The perception of the Boone of old is not the reality of Boone today. -
Murray Out, Bradshaw In At Campbell County
munoz replied to Mustang's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Perception of what is right or wrong or making a mountain out of a mole hill as a means to an end. Who's got your back? Coach Murray is doing the only thing he can at this point. He is not getting the job back. He knows that. Keep his mouth shut, finish the year, and go job hunting when the year is over. I don't believe I4C's fight is about that, its about not having it happen again. -
But couldn't these players be transferring to Cordia for the same reasons a player might transfer to NCC, Scott Co., Bowling Green, etc? Does this make them legal? What makes them illegal? the distance they traveled? What if a kid that plays football in NYC transfers to Trinity for the same reasons one might transfer to NCC, Scott Co., Bowling Green. Does that change anything? What if its Fulton County?

munoz replied to theguru's topic in KY Football (High School)
I know these younger classes are winners. Have seen them dismantle many teams coming up. But is this not true of other groups that have come up through the ranks at Ryle? What is going to make this group different? Maybe it is the coaching of Coach Engler, let's hope. One good thing is if he is successful I think he stays at Ryle a while or at least till Turner's Angles get restless again. -

Wish Coach Woolf had gotten the job. He had earned the right to give it a shot. To be passed on for another assistant is a slap in the face. The coach they hired applied for the Campbell County job when Coach Lickert was hired but was not part of the final two. I hope he does great because the faithful in Union have not proven to be a patient bunch. He has talent to be successful right away if he can get them all headed in the right direction. Good luck Coach Engler. -
Has Ryle hired their new head football Coach? (Take #2)
munoz replied to theguru's topic in KY Football (High School)
I believe he is in the second category but at some point you say "Uncle". I think he would stay as a teacher just not coach anymore or go somewhere else to coach. -
Let's see. Where best can he keep his legendary status? At MC he'd have to face Trinity, X, Scott Co., etc to win a state title. Boyle will be bumped down to 3A it is looking like, which means no Highlands, Cov. Cath, etc in 4A. Those State Titles look at lot more attainable in 3A than they do in 4A or 5A. Just sayin...

What if Kentucky had a "Super Class" for football?
munoz replied to Jason Frakes's topic in KY Football (High School)
Looks pretty good. Maybe a few adjustments but the concept of everyone else in the other 4 classes is intriguing.
